Riots Are A Slippery Slope

First of all protests and riots have everyone talking though they are a slippery slope. Cooking dinner and sitting on the deck seems to be a great venue to talk about it. Learn more in Riots-A-Slippery-Slope-Bob Davis Podcast 951.

Civil War Talk Just As Dangerous

Second I don’t like using the term ‘civil war’ in the same context, but some very foolish people are.

Real Talk

In the same vein it’s time for some real talk about what’s going on and what it might mean.

Recent Content Rich Podcasts

Moreover I’ve done some pretty content rich podcasts lately about political realignment and presidential polls. It’s also time for a more relaxed conversation about serious subjects.

I Never Know

On the other hand when I do more relaxed podcasts I never know what I’m going to talk about.

Buzzing On Social Media

Specifically what kicked off this talk are people buzzing about ‘civil war’ on social media.

Dangerous Talk

Most importantly I think this is very dangerous talk, even for so called analysts and commentators. We’ll get into it in Riots-A-Slippery-Slope-Bob Davis Podcast 951.

How The Draft Riots Ended

In addition I use an example from history about the New York City Draft Riots, as depicted in the movie The Gangs Of New York.

It Wasn’t Pretty

To clarify the book, “The Gangs Of New York” was written by Herbert Asbury. A part of the book focuses on the Federal Government’s response to complete anarchy in New York City during these riots, at the height of the Civil War. It wasn’t pretty.

A Lot Of Silly Talk

Above all we don’t need a lot of silly inflammatory talk right now. No matter where it comes from.

Yeah It Could Get A Lot Worse

Finally many of us find ourselves thinking about how tough things are right now. Certainly we can all agree that an actual civil war would make things a lot worse. Like, you can’t imagine how much worse.

Cavalcade Of Idiots

Can we please stop using that term to describe street violence and cavalcade of idiots on both sides responding to it.

Delusional America

In conclusion I have certainly talked about a delusional America. The fact that we’re on the cusp of a change in epoch. I don’t think any of us can say with any degree of confidence where we’ll be in five years.

Meanwhile life goes on.

Unity Confidence Game-American Tribes-Bob Davis Podcast 772

Tensions are high these days. People fear violence. The media sells a coming Civil War. Now we’re hearing calls for ‘Unity’. Is it a con? Learn more in Unity Confidence Game-American Tribes-Bob Davis Podcast 772.

Now We’re Tribes

A popular word these days is ‘tribal‘. People who think a certain way are a ‘tribe’. I thought we were all Americans. One tribe. Apparently not.

We’re Supposed To Disagree

Aren’t we supposed to disagree? Moreover we have a system designed to use disagreement to find the best path forward.

Is Unity Tyranny?

In this freewheeling talker, I suggest unity implies we all have to agree. Especially relevant is the problem pushing for ‘unity’ creates. You have to agree with me. I have to agree with you. Those who disagree or say things ‘we’ don’t agree with should be ‘sent away’. Listen to Unity Confidence Game-American Tribes-Bob Davis Podcast 772.

Emotionally Charged Environment

In addition media goes for the emotional hook. Because we’re in an emotionally charged environment, there’s no context. Even more, trends of thought or story lines pass for ‘news’. Large swaths of the population get their information without history or context from social media.

False Choice

Most noteworthy in a world fueled by feelings, talking heads tell us we have to choose “between war and peace”. Civil war or Civil peace. Certainly this is a false choice and a very dangerous suggestion. More in Unity Confidence Game-American Tribes-Bob Davis Podcast 772.

Celebrate Factionalism

Finally factionalism is a natural human tendency. That’s ok. Social systems designed to weed out factions are tyrannies. If we both agree, one of us is unnecessary.

Read History Gain Perspective

In conclusion beware of all this unity talk. If we can’t disagree and talk about problems, we can’t solve them. Celebrate differences. Read history. Consequently gain perspective.

Gettysburg-Real Cost of Civil War-Bob Davis Podcast 735

These days commentators use sexy titles for their blogs, articles and on-air commentary. It needs to be said sometimes these guys go too far. Find out how in Gettysburg-Real Cost of Civil War-Bob Davis Podcast 735.

Use ‘Civil War’ In Your SEO Title

Civil War‘ is working its way back into the current American political discourse because it sells.

At least three so called pundits recently suggested there will be ‘another Civil War’ if democrats don’t ‘win’ the midterm elections this year.

Battle Of Gettysburg

So it is most noteworthy we remember a Fourth of July in 1863.

During those days in 1863 men who spoke the same language killed and maimed more than fifty thousand of their fellow citizens. Get the details in Gettysburg-Real Cost of Civil War-Bob Davis Podcast 735.

One Million Killed

Especially relevant; the bloodletting went on for two more years. Our real Civil War was a disaster for this country. It took one hundred years for the American South to begin to fully recover. We are still dealing with the aftermath of that war in this country. One million people were killed when we the whole country had a population of only 31 million. In terms of population our most costly war.

All because politicians couldn’t solve a problem.

War Is Not A Protest

War is not a protest. It is not an expression of outrage. A sit in. Blocking the highway. Civil War isn’t a bunch of people shouting someone out of a restaurant or refusing to bake a cake.

War Means Killing

War is a state of armed conflict. In war the most ruthless combatant eliminates his enemy’s will to fight. This is done by killing or maiming as many of the so called enemy as possible, and destroying the means of production. People and property do not do well in war. Worse in a civil war.

Civil War Is No Joke

Civil War is much more bloody than a conflict between sovereign state actors.

In short, civil war is no joke.

Outrage

It is an outrage for talk show hosts and pundits to suggest we in the United States are already in a state of Civil War. It’s folly that honest disagreements about policy and personalities are characterized in such a lazy and irresponsible manner.

Chaos Would Be The Norm

If we did have another civil war in America the cost would be enormous

Chaos would be the norm throughout the world.

In conclusion I can only ask those who like to say we’re ‘in a civil war’…

Is this the world you want to bequeath to your children?
