Fearmonger-Fishmonger-Virusmonger-Bob Davis Podcast 908

What’s a Monger Dad?

First of all a monger is someone who deals in something. These days with Coronavirus you might find yourself being called a fearmonger. Learn more in Fearmonger-Fishmonger-Virusmonger-Bob Davis Podcast 908.

Virus Fear

Especially relevant is my most recent podcast. I said if the virus causes an economic slowdown it would limit the President’s shot for a second term.

Not Just The Market

Moreover I did not base my analysis on the stock market. I know full well ups and downs will happen everyday until Covid-19 runs its course.

Things Should ALWAYS Go Smoothly Right?

I want to talk about how we expect things to go smoothly no matter what.

Always Right…Never Wrong

In addition, time to talk about how predictions about a developing story having to be one hundred percent correct all the time.

Fake News!

Most noteworthy, politicians who demonize media that doesn’t follow the party line. Fake News! Lies! Political Agenda!

Nothing To See Here Folks

Also the idea that ‘professionals’ are in charge. There’s nothing to worry about here! Just go back to your homes and wait for further instructions.

Projecting An Air Of Confidence

These days public and corporate officials project an air of confidence and competency.

Consequently our companies and governments maintain a a veneer of perfection publicly.

What happens when smart people make things go wrong? Check it out in Fearmonger-Fishmonger-Virusmonger-Bob Davis Podcast 908.

Cascade To Crisis

We’re on top of this! Nothing to worry about! Then, the unexpected cascade into crisis.

How do we react when the ‘super competent’ are swamped?

Complex Developing Crises

In conclusion don’t be so quick to judge someone’s takeaway today. Tomorrow they might be right. Especially when it comes to complex and developing crises.

Summer Doldrums-Surreal News-Truth-Podcasting In A Dream World-Podcast 726

These days it feels like we’re in the Summer Doldrums though Summer doesn’t start until June 21st. Find out why podcasters struggle with political and social commentary in today’s news flow in Summer Doldrums-Surreal News-Truth-Podcasting In A Dream World-Podcast 726.

Dream World

I call it the ‘News-Flow’. The dream world where stories flip flop almost hourly.

News Story Flip Flops

We’re having a trade war. Then we’re not. North Korea is going to make a nuclear deal. News is the deal is off. Now suddenly it’s back. Robert Mueller’s investigation will soon yield explosive results! The FBI planted a mole in the Trump campaign. Roseanne’s new comedy is a hit! Oops. It’s been cancelled. We’ll talk about it in Summer Doldrums-Surreal News-Truth-Podcasting In A Dream World-Podcast 726.

Awash In Commentary and Outrage

Moreover every screaming headline comes with analysis and commentary, predictions and counter commentary from all quarters. They’re only to happy to tell us why everyone else is right or wrong.

Is It Real? Or Is it Social Media?

Especially relevant is the feeling that all of this nonsense is building to a serious crisis. Are we all going crazy? Maybe it’s the Ambien. Or maybe the antidepressants. The full moon anyone?

Journalism or Propaganda?

What’s more advancing story lines is not journalism, it’s propaganda. Do the executives, reporters, producers and presenters understand this? Seems like all they want to do is keep people watching and clicking.

Easier To Talk About Roseanne Than The War In Syria

In conclusion maybe it is easier to talk about Roseanne’s latest fiasco, or how the Press Secretary yelled at a reporter than it is to actually cover the war in Syria. Maybe its cheaper to talk about Hollywood’s latest scandal than it is to explain why gas prices are skyrocketing.

What If?

What if all their story lines are wrong? One podcaster’s thoughts on a moonlit night at the beginning of summer.

PODCAST 392

Real Iowa Politics Live. I decided to cover an additional Scott Walker event in Iowa for two reasons. After covering the Walker announcement in Waukesha, Wisconsin in podcast 391, I have a reference point for Walker, so covering on additional appearance by the Governor, especially in Iowa would be a good pair of companion podcasts. So, it was off to Davenport, Iowa from Minneapolis. The road trip started at midnight, arriving at Davenport’s Modern Woodmen Park, home of the ‘Bandits’, a minor league baseball team at about 5:30 AM. After a short nap, I would be covering Scott Walker’s appearance later in the day. There’s a big difference between watching an event on live television and actually being there. Modern media amplifies, magnifies and distorts reality. It was amazing to see the network cameras set up for the live shot, or to tape, with no reporter. I’m assuming someone in another city slices and dices the speech. When you have video, who needs to be there. This is why I decided to come to a political event in Iowa. I learned a lot. Most of these events at the present time are pretty small ball, but I was shocked to learn that one presidential ‘candidate’ after another has trooped through, sometimes two or three a day, to rub noses with Iowans, just because they cast the first votes in caucuses and primaries in 2016. Iowa Republicans do not trust the media — even podcasters like me — and they’re perfectly content with a status conferred upon them by virtue of their caucus date, the media and the politicians trooping through these rooms all over the state. Walker is a disciplined candidate, delivering exactly the same speech, in exactly the same way, except for a moment of prayer for the recent victims of the Marine Base shooting. Still, the ‘reporting’ on Walker tends to be long on snark, and short on actual analysis and illumination of what he has done in Wisconsin and what he is proposing on the campaign trail. With a track record of actually doing what he says, you would think the media might actually want to put some effort into analysis. But no. Mostly snark. And, there’s a train in this podcast. Put headphones on and experience what an Iowa political event feels and sounds like. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing and Heating of Saint Paul
