Jumping The Gun Again?

First of all they’re jumping the gun again. Learn more in Jumping-The-Gun-On-2020-Bob Davis Podcast 958.

Secondly I don’t care who wins the presidential election in 2020.

Leaps Of Faith

However I can’t ignore the leaps of faith when it comes to candidate preference polls in this election.

There Are Limits

In other words there are limits to the conclusions to be drawn from political polling.

Bob Davis Podcast Coverage Of Election 2020

Certainly this has been the subject of more than one political podcast this year.

Battleground State Review Series

Consequently it’s time for another review of the polls in the battleground states.

Even more paying special attention to balancing breathless predictions about ‘who’s going to win’.

Too Many Factors For Predictions

Most importantly there are too many factors to consider a prediction about the outcome of the vote in these battleground states.

But That Doesn’t Stop The Media

In addition it sure looks to me like media is jumping the gun. Again.

And in a world where everything one candidate does is right a proper and everything the other does is wrong and misguided, I am not surprised.

Non Partisan. No Attacks. No Defense.

Finally I don’t seek to defend or attack either mainline party candidate.

Blind Spot

Instead I point out a significant blind spot with almost all media in the United States in this election year.

Don’t Know What Will Happen November 3rd

In conclusion we don’t know what the outcome of this election will be. I think it is very difficult to predict given the many moving parts this year.

New Ballot Wrinkles

For example, absentee ballots, early voting and so on.

Balanced Coverage

To sum up I have been producing balanced coverage of these polls. That includes explanations how on they work and their limitations.

Riots-A-Slippery-Slope-Bob Davis Podcast 951

Riots Are A Slippery Slope

First of all protests and riots have everyone talking though they are a slippery slope. Cooking dinner and sitting on the deck seems to be a great venue to talk about it. Learn more in Riots-A-Slippery-Slope-Bob Davis Podcast 951.

Civil War Talk Just As Dangerous

Second I don’t like using the term ‘civil war’ in the same context, but some very foolish people are.

Real Talk

In the same vein it’s time for some real talk about what’s going on and what it might mean.

Recent Content Rich Podcasts

Moreover I’ve done some pretty content rich podcasts lately about political realignment and presidential polls. It’s also time for a more relaxed conversation about serious subjects.

I Never Know

On the other hand when I do more relaxed podcasts I never know what I’m going to talk about.

Buzzing On Social Media

Specifically what kicked off this talk are people buzzing about ‘civil war’ on social media.

Dangerous Talk

Most importantly I think this is very dangerous talk, even for so called analysts and commentators. We’ll get into it in Riots-A-Slippery-Slope-Bob Davis Podcast 951.

How The Draft Riots Ended

In addition I use an example from history about the New York City Draft Riots, as depicted in the movie The Gangs Of New York.

It Wasn’t Pretty

To clarify the book, “The Gangs Of New York” was written by Herbert Asbury. A part of the book focuses on the Federal Government’s response to complete anarchy in New York City during these riots, at the height of the Civil War. It wasn’t pretty.

A Lot Of Silly Talk

Above all we don’t need a lot of silly inflammatory talk right now. No matter where it comes from.

Yeah It Could Get A Lot Worse

Finally many of us find ourselves thinking about how tough things are right now. Certainly we can all agree that an actual civil war would make things a lot worse. Like, you can’t imagine how much worse.

Cavalcade Of Idiots

Can we please stop using that term to describe street violence and cavalcade of idiots on both sides responding to it.

Delusional America

In conclusion I have certainly talked about a delusional America. The fact that we’re on the cusp of a change in epoch. I don’t think any of us can say with any degree of confidence where we’ll be in five years.

Meanwhile life goes on.

New-Media-Same-Message-Bob Davis Podcast 929

Media Is The Big Trigger Word

These days the word media triggers all kinds of responses. We think we’re living in a new age. IIn fact the medium may have changed but the message is the same. Learn more in New-Media-Same-Message-Bob Davis Podcast 929.

TV Shows and You Tube

First of all I’ve been watching a lot of clips from old TV shows on You Tube.

Miss The Old Days?

Second, saw a meme on social media the other day. Seems like we miss the old days, when there were only a few trusted sources when it came to news.

Have Things Really Changed That Much?

Certainly there is a nostalgia for the old ways and the old days for older Americans. However it begs the question, have things really changed?

New Media Same Message

In New-Media-Same-Message-Bob Davis Podcast 929, some easy talk about those old days plus some observations about the current time frame.

Media Outlets and Choices

For example back in the day most people might have been able to get two local newspapers, three or four local TV stations and a few local radio stations. Commentary was available on the editorial pages and a few news magazines.

Big Audiences Back In The Day

Even more audiences were larger for those few sources. There were no smart phones, computers or Internet.

Digital Age Changed Everything Right?

Due to the advent of cable, internet, computers and smart phones we now live in what we call the ‘digital age’.

The Message Was Always To Conform

During the so called old days media served an important purpose. Among other things, it was a tool to encourage people to conform.

New Platforms Different Mission

Finally the truth is we have the same number of major platforms we had back in the day. The difference is these platforms provide an opportunity for millions to be heard and seen.

We’re Still Pushed To Conform

However today’s supposedly complex media in the same vein as the old, pushes people to conform.

Tribes, Villages, Birds of A Feather

We speak to our tribe and not everyone. Our instinct to conform is reinforced by social media and other platforms.

The Message Is Manipulation and Control And We’re Still Buying It

In short no matter how sophisticated apparently we’re still ripe for manipulation and control.
