Finding Happiness-Bob Davis Podcast 814

When it comes to politics these days, it’s hard to find happiness. Especially when it comes to how things really work and true believers. We’ll talk about it in Finding Happiness-Bob Davis Podcast 814.

Omar’s Tweet Storm

Minnesota’s 5th District Congressman Ilhan Omar started a firestorm  because of a tweet regarding a Vox story that questioned Israeli lobbying. At issue are democrat voters suddenly aghast because of Omar’s comments.

Dependable Democrats Put Omar In Office

Jewish voters in the 5th district are dependable democrat voters. Moreover they reached out to a growing Somali community in Minneapolis years ago. An effort that has been celebrated in the media here. Somalis as a community were encouraged to come to the Twin Cities through the US State Department, by Lutherns, Catholics and others.

Suddenly Surprise At Omar’s Criticism Of Israel

Consequently why is it surprising a Somali politician, elected by an active Somali community might have different views about Israel than a Jewish community smaller than her base? Especially since the president apparently had similar views during his 2016 campaign.

Surprise! Moderate Democrats Don’t Like Socialists

More importantly older and moderate democrats are balking at left wingers like Bernie Sanders and Alexandra Ocasio Cortez. When they voted, what did they expect?

The Final Insult? Light Rail

It doesn’t end there. Most noteworthy in Minnesota? Democrats have had control of both Minneapolis and Saint Paul for decades. More than 90 percent of democrats support Light Rail Transportation. A new rail project will run right through one of Minneapolis’ most democrat and richest district.

NIMBY’s

Democrats enthusiastically support Light Rail projects in other parts of the city. Now suddenly they’re upset because of proposed subsidized development and the path of the train through the inner city lakes district.

Republicans Hate Democrat Governor’s Tax Increases

Finally there are the republicans furious because a newly elected democrat governor wants to raise taxes. Where were they last November? Watching fox news in their La-Z-Boys.

What You Deserve

In conclusion, everyone wants what they want from politicians but…you can’t always get what you want.

Sometimes you get what you deserve.

Father Son Talk-Media Relevance-Connecting To America-Podcast 681

As far back as I can remember, my son and I have had great conversations. These days those talks are usually over the phone. When he visits, it’s time to put those talks on a podcast. Father Son Talk-Media Relevance-Connecting To America-Podcast 681 is the result.

Welcome To New York

A recent move to New York City and a new job in media forms the backdrop of a conversation recently that is Father Son Talk-Media Relevance-Connecting To America-Podcast 681.

What’s A Media Family Like?

Especially relevant is the fact that both Andrew Davis’ mother and father have worked in media most of their lives. It’s a tough and sometimes thankless business, although fun. We did not necessarily want our son to work in the business. Our friends remarked to us, “What did you think he was going to do?”

Starting A Media Career

We welcome Andrew Davis into the ranks as the purveyor of his own You Tube effort and most recently a production assistant for a documentary unit in New York. We’re a media family, so media has always been topic number one at the table. What are the views of a young adult getting into the media? How do major news outlets connect with so called middle America?

How Does ‘The Bubble’ Reach ‘Trump’s America’?

With most news coverage these days focused on the latest accusations of sexual harassment in the political and media workspace, it seems like we’re hearing less and less about important issues facing the country. In conclusion, why isn’t the media covering and talking about North Korea, the Economy. and technology issues? Has the so called mainstream media (New York and LA) lost towns, cities and states ‘beyond the pale’? Where did it go wrong?

Put Down That Smart Phone And Get In The Combine

We don’t always agree on the conclusions though. In Father Son Talk-Media Relevance-Connecting To America-Podcast 681 there’s a fair amount of ribbing and catcalls across the generational divide. Finally all those discussions at the dinner table and on phones as we traversed the world are coming in handy.

Podcast 495

The Light At The End Of The Tunnel? The Light At The End Of The Tunnel? It’s probably a train, right? First Ted Cruz quits the race, then the next day John Kasich quits. So, it is now fair to say that Donald J. Trump has a clear path to be nominated as the Republican Presidential Candidate at the Republican convention this summer. Yes, suddenly the republican establishment which so hated ‘The Donald’ it allowed #nevertrump to continue and in some cases encouraged it, has suddenly embraced the hated Trump even switching over to #neverhillary. So much for the so called ‘principled conservative’ at the top of the GOP. Now what? There’s a lot of ground to cover between now and the last primaries in June, and the conventions. Since there have already been a number of surprises in 2016, it’s fair to say just about anything could happen at either the republican or democrat convention. In treating the media story-lines with healthy skepticism, one wonders what happens to the Red State Blogs and Glenn Beck’s of the world? What happens to all the #nevertrump and Cruz supporting talk show hosts? Do they suddenly start working for Hillary Clinton? What about the outside possibility Bernie Sanders wins California and democrat super delegates start abandoning the USS Hillary? If Trump is the nominee – and to be fair it looks like he is going to be unless something happens between now and Cleveland – can he win the presidency? Already we’re seeing the same kind of ‘predict the future’ journalism now, we saw at the beginning of the Trump candidacy. Trump can not win, he starts in the hole and will never beat Clinton or Sanders. He’s a bully. He’s a xenophobe. He’s an authoritarian. If you’re a woman you’ll vote for Hillary. There are protests against Trump in the streets which may end up helping his candidacy, actually. Can Trump win? Of course he can. He went against the odds and crushed a whole field of republicans, although media compliments aside, the republican field this year was a disaster and the debates exposed them all as completely unprepared for the spotlight, except for the one guy who knows how to play the TV Reality Show Game. So yeah, Trump can win. The only problem with a Trump presidency is, republicans will probably regret it. Conservatives for Trump? Don’t make me laugh. Trade protection, Keynesian economics and nativism are hardly ‘conservative’ ideas. There are going to be a lot of long faces for republicans when they learn what a Trump presidency might actually mean for them, unless you want to work at a bucket factory or coal mine, where millennials with graduate degrees want to work, right? On the other hand, why not? It’s gonna be great! For too long republicans have masqueraded as conservatives, railing against abortion and same-sex marriage while they voted to increase budgets year after year for things like ‘education’ and stadiums for billionaire sports owners. Who deserves Trump? Republicans deserve Trump. The Light At End Of The Tunnel? It’s a Trump. No wait! It’s a train. Sponsored by X Government Cars and Ryan Plumbing and Heating of Saint Paul.
