Monsoon-Musings-Bob Davis Podcast 1066

Monsoon Musings

Late summer means the Monsoon season out west and that means it’s time for some Monsoon Musings. In my case that means midnight between downpours. Up in the mountains in Monsoon-Musings-Bob Davis Podcast 1066.

Monsoons Are Not Created Equal

Firstly every year out here is different when it comes to the Monsoon.

Bad Monsoon

Secondly this is a bad Monsoon.

Above all it seems like every afternoon the thunderheads come up and the downpours start.

Spectacular Storms

Certainly the storms are more spectacular in the deserts down toward Phoenix.

Utah Monsoon

However I am in Utah.

And Utah has its share of summer storms.

Flooding

For example it doesn’t take much rain to produce flooding and a lot of mud.

Campsite Flooded

In fact my campsite was flooded when I recorded Monsoon-Musings-Bob Davis Podcast 1066.

Stay On The Black Top

On the other hand that is why nomads avoid sandy and dirt roads this time of year and park on the black top.

Reflections

But it’s a great time for reflections.

Musings

Monsoon Musings.

In the same vein I have been up in Salt Lake for a lot longer than I would have liked.

Consequently I have a few stories from my truck stop and Walmart parking lot stays.

In addition I had a chance to scout the whole area for great campgrounds.

Bryce Canyon

Finally I headed up to the Bryce Canyon area and camping at King’s Creek in the Dixie National Forest.

[Editor’s Note: Of course I called it King’s Crossing in the podcast!)

Dixie National Forest

To clarify this campground is about nine thousand feet up. When it rains there it’s cold.

Fog!

And foggy.

Red Rock Road

Therefore I was happy to get back down to the desert near Red Rock.

Two Takeaways

To clarify there’s two takeaways from this podcast.

Desperation In The Truck Stops and Parking Lots

Firstly I don’t think I have seen this many homeless and desperate people in the truck stops and parking lots in my travels.

And Utah has services and plenty of room for broken down car dwellers.

Nomads Have A Dream

Secondly it’s been my experience that nomads have a dream.

That is to say many nomads dream of a piece of land somewhere in the mountains.

Or beaches.

Forests too.

In short we talk a lot about what one would need for the perfect off grid ‘cabin in the woods’.

My Heart Is On The Road

But on the other hand my heart is not in those discussions although I don’t mind having them over a fireside steak and a piping hot cup of coffee.

My Cabin In The Woods

In conclusion Mobile Podcast Command is my cabin in the woods, mountain or beach.

Gratitude

And I am very grateful to stay on the move.

Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983

Difficult Winter Calls For Summer Sounds Winter Relief

Firstly we are having a difficult winter and a Summer Sounds Winter Relief is the perfect antidote. Therefore headphones on for Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983.

No Talk

Secondly and perhaps most importantly I don’t talk much in this podcast.

Power Of Sound

Above all one of the things I’ve learned is sound has a lot of power.

Sounds Of Summer

For example and maybe the best example, the sound of summer.

Bugs and Storms

Certainly summer is loud. Bugs. Storms. Lawnmowers. People driving by with their radios up and the windows down. Boats. And birds!

Memory and Warmth Trigger Warning

However it is those sounds that trigger the best memories.

Winter Sucks

Especially in the depths of a terrible winter.

Deep Freeze

For instance ice storms, deep sub zero temperatures and snow storms. Seemingly everywhere in this country!

We Need Relief!

Meanwhile we all need relief.

Velvet Summer Sounds

Welcome to the velvet sounds of summer in Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983.

Headphones On

In short put your headphones on and turn it up.

Warm You Up

To clarify if you are cold, this will warm you up. Got the winter blues? This podcast will ease your pain.

Sound Does The Talking

Finally I concluded the best thing to do is to shut up. Podcasts are a talker’s game. But sometimes the sound does the talking.

Magnificent Midwestern Summer

As a result I spent last summer recording the sound of a magnificent Midwestern Summer.

Walk Through Summer

To sum up, now all you have to do is put headphones on and walk through that incredible summer.

Heat

The heat. Storms. All the things we associate with summer you can hear in Summer-Sounds-Winter-Relief-Bob Davis Podcast 983.

Sound Recording Geek

In the same vein listeners to these podcasts know I get around. As a nomad I get to record sound from where ever I go. I often can be seen with headphones on pointing a microphone in the direction of some interesting sound. Meanwhile, others are enjoying whatever is going on.

Experience

In conclusion to some degree I experience life through headphones.

Feel Better

Truth is, it made me feel better just to produce this podcast.

Summer’s Around The Corner

Summer’s around the corner, or at the tip of your fingers…and headphones.

Podcast 560-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-48

Podcast 560-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-48. Live from Garberville, California which I keep referring to as Gerberville in the radio show, so my apologies to the people of Garberville. Coming down out of the mountains in heavy, driving rain for three days will turn your brain to mush. Podcast 560-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-48 is live with brand new content for podcast subscribers. When traveling you have to make adjustments as long trips begin to take on a life of their own. There’s a life lesson there. Maybe there’s a political lesson too. 2016’s presidential campaign has taken on a surreal life of its own. We will be left to pick up the pieces. GOP leadership could have allowed a floor fight in Cleveland which might have yielded better national candidates, but the establishment instead chose power over principle. Has the Republican Party lost its moorings? Is it breaking up on the rocks? You’re supposed to be loyal and vote for Trump so Hillary Clinton doesn’t appoint liberal supreme court justices. Really? Reagan appointed Justice Kennedy and George W. Bush appointed Chief Justice Roberts. Roberts opened the constitutional gate for ObamaCare. Should Trump win the presidency, with the possibility of a democrat senate, nominating judges who pass the ‘conservative litmus test’ will be increasingly difficult. I think the right has lost its reason and its ability to make the powerful economic arguments that used to make it attractive to the middle class. With a morally bankrupt leadership that can’t decide whether to endorse, withdraw endorsement, endorse again or just tell people to vote for Trump ‘because, you know…’ that is pretty much all she wrote for the Grand Old Party. The question is whether the republican rank and file, drunk on rhetorical arguments for every issue, will be able to do the hard work necessary to build a new party. Meanwhile, the GOP is losing women, and struggles to attract younger or minority voters. This show only scratches the surface of how sad it is to watch an old friend die of a terminal disease.
