New-Rig-Roadtrip-Ready-Bob Davis Podcast 1165

New Rig RoadTrip Ready

New Rig Roadtrip Ready. Firstly, got a new rig and a big announcement for long time listeners and subscribers to The Bob Davis Podcasts.

Difficulties

Secondly getting these two things done this summer proved to be difficult. One of the reasons there hasn’t been a new podcast in awhile.

Roadblocks

In other words sometimes it felt like there were roadblocks at every corner.

Tough Times Require Determination

When things get tough it’s important to realize it’s one step after another.

Follow Through

By all means follow through became the order of the day.

School Bus Anyone?

To begin with I wanted a School Bus.

However searching for a ‘Skoolie’ proved to be disappointing to the point of becoming depressing.

Asking For Help

At length I decided I needed help.

Enter my old friend Ed Johnson. Afterward things got easier and more fun.

In reality Ed couldn’t understand why I wanted a school bus.

Fire Rescue

In the long run I ended up with a decommissioned Fire Rescue truck.

Best Thing

All in all this turned out to be the best thing that could have happened.

Winter Is Coming

Because my deadline for leaving Wisconsin around Labor Day…

Even More Determination To Get Ready

And due to the fact we took possession of the truck on Labor Day…

Lots Of Work

In reality I had a lot of work to do in the next few weeks to get the new rig road trip ready.

Details in New-Rig-Roadtrip-Ready-Bob Davis Podcast 1165

CDL Required

With this in mind when we bought the new rig we didn’t realize the weight and air brakes required a CDL to drive it.

So I had to go get a CDL.

Solar, Heat and Living Space

In addition there was the issue of Solar Power, creating a living space in a different space, and getting heat in there.

Fall

As a result as fall drew its veil over the fields and lake I went to work.

Before The First Snows

At the end of the day I managed to get out of dodge just before the first snows in early November.

Manifesting

As I have noted I learned a lot about manifesting what one might want.

Better Than I Could Have Imagined

On the whole I was surprised at how what I wanted and what I ended up with turned out to be better than I could have imagined.

Thanks

Finally there’s a lot of people to thank…

New Story

All of the sudden I have a new story to tell.

In time I’ll also share how doing a bunch of stuff I didn’t think I could gave me a new confidence.

Back On The Road

In conclusion I am already back out on the road in the new Unit 11.

YouTube

Join me on the podcasts here as well as on my YouTube channel to see the new rig.

Now that all of this is out of the way I can announce the creation of a non profit.

Details in the podcast and video.

Loneliest-American-Highway-US-50-Bob Davis Podcast 1161

Loneliest American Highway

Firstly US Route 50 is unofficially called the Loneliest American Highway. Join me for the trip in Loneliest-American-Highway-US-50-Bob Davis Podcast 1161.

Best American Highway

But Route 50 turns out to be one of the best road trips you can take.

Mega Road Trip California

With this in mind as I ended my mega road trip up the California coast…

Sacramento To The East Coast

I headed for Sacramento as soon as I wrapped up on the Pacific Coast Highway.

Here’s The California Road Trip Podcasts

US 50 Is Different

However US Route 50 is something altogether different.

Mountains To Deserts

That is to say we start in the mountains and deserts of Eastern California.

Free Camping

In particular in these mountains I encountered my first ‘free’ campsite.

In contrast with the bracing breezes on the West Coast my first campground was a thriving babbling brook.

Most importantly I arrived too early in the year for the campground to be open.

But the gate was down and other people were camping.

Therefore I spent a great first night at the side of the brook.

Subsequently on into the California and Nevada deserts.

Nothing Like A Two Lane Highway For Freedom

Above all I can say there is little more in this life more therapeutic than a deserted two lane highway stretching into infinity.

Open Road

In other words if what you seek is the open road US 50 has it in spades.

Mountains To Valleys

Equally important are the shifts from mountains to valleys and deserts as we travel this route.

Life Pressure

Certainly these days we all wonder what will happen next.

Corporate Grind

Even more the pressures of day to day life and corporate life are heavy for many.

Small Town Antidote

I took a closer look at many small towns along the way with this purpose in mind

What Comes Next

In other words if you didn’t do what you’re doing now how would you do whatever comes next

Small Town Life

As an illustration of that question small towns like Ely, Nevada and Delta Colorado help the traveler imagine what life would be like if things were a little different.

Colorado Mountains and Continental Divide

Finally moving into the Colorado Mountains including crossing the Continental Divide at Mammoth Mountain.

Plains

Then we moved straightaway into the plains of Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas.

National Parks and Truck Stop Camping

From time to time camping at more free campgrounds, national parks like The Great Basin and Black Canyon, and an occasional Truck Stop.

Meditating On History

In addition to the meditation of driving there’s a lot of history in this region of the country.

Farming Ranching Mining

Especially ending in Fort Dodge Kansas, I am reminded of the ranching history of the plains as well as the mining, pioneer and Native American history of Colorado, Nevada and California.

Ancient People

To this end there are artifacts like the Petroglyphs in Nevada where people lived and thrived more than ten thousand years ago.

Full Experience

To sum up all of this is waiting to be experienced on supposedly the loneliest highway in the United States.

But I think Route 50 is one of the best highways.

Still-Captivated-By-Nomad-Life-Bob Davis Podcast 1130

Still Captivated By Nomad Life

Firstly Still-Captivated-By-Nomad-Life-Bob Davis Podcast 1130 includes a clip from a syndicated radio show because the hosts were talking about me! It reminded me that nomad life still captivates people.

Old Friends

Secondly a few years ago I visited my old friend Max who produces and fills in on the Bob and Sherrie show.

Here’s a link to the podcast we did together a few years ago when I first started my nomad journey.

Background

Altogether the podcast we did together gives the listener a little background on our history.

Series On The Nomad Experience

Finally I have been doing kind of a series on the current state of the nomad experience.

Quartzsite For The Winter

In fact I am camped out here in the Southwestern Arizona desert in Quartzsite for the winter.

Drawbacks

As much as I love nomad life my most recent podcast talked about some of the drawbacks I have experienced this winter.

And talks about my desire to get more out of the lifestyle.

Audio From The Show Included

So I thought it was appropriate to play the clip from the Bob and Sherrie show recently where they were talking about my experience.

No End To My Nomad Roaming Days

Because I really have no intention to end my nomad roaming days.

Technology

Even more I believe as technology continues to improve…

More Nomads

In addition it’s important to point out that there are many different tribes in this lifestyle.

That is to say there are digital nomads as well as various workers who travel.

And plenty of others who travel in a like manner.

International

Analogous to nomads in the US are other ‘tribes’ in Europe, Asia and other international locations.

Why Are People Captivated By This Lifestyle

Eventually I get to reasons people are captivated by this lifestyle.

Details

Coupled with a few more details some might not have heard about my own experience.

Better When The Wheels Are Turning

All things considered part of my frustration with Quartzsite this year stems from the fact that I do not like sitting.

As I have noted I always feel better when the wheels are turning.

More

However I still believe I want a little more out of this experience.

And I’ll be talking about that as it develops in future months.

So, check out Still-Captivated-By-Nomad-Life-Bob Davis Podcast 1130…

And thanks again to Bob and Sherrie and Max for talking about my nomad experience.
