How Nomads Battle Loneliness

Firstly How-Nomads-Battle-Loneliness-Bob Davis Podcast 1113 is a response to a subscriber’s question. Secondly it’s a good question. How do nomads battle loneliness?.

Secondly I had to think about this one.

Lonely Isn’t On My Agenda

Because the state of being lonely is foreign to me.

Being Lonely Versus Solitude

Therefore I think the real question is what’s the difference from being lonely

…and enjoying solitude?

In fact solitude is a feature of nomad life.

Certainly from the outside it might appear to be lonely.

But my experience is that it isn’t.

For example consider Thoreau’s musings about solitude.

Getting Away From People

To explain I decided to go on the road permanently in part to get away from people!

Spending Time Learning And Exploring

With this in mind I also have to point out nomad life isn’t always spent alone.

I am spending more time in places I visit for one thing.

And that means time with friends and family.

Nomad Life Is Social Too

In addition in the campgrounds where we gather life is actually quite social.

Okay With Yourself

The first thing to remember if you’re hitting the road is you will spend a lot of time alone.

Accordingly you have to be okay being by yourself.

Hence How-Nomads-Battle-Loneliness-Bob Davis Podcast 1113.

Melancholy Cousin

Given these points nomad life is a celebration of solitude with no thought given to its melancholy cousin.

Too Much Social

Above all I think there’s too much influence in our society on the social aspects of life.

For instance people at Yellowstone Park recently running to capture selfies with a black bear and her cubs.

Or racing from one overlook to the next at the Grand Canyon to take pictures…

Never actually experiencing the canyon.

Digital Tether

Without a doubt we are uncomfortable without our digital tethers.

Equally important is the emphasis placed on social intelligence.

Even more getting along with others.

I think too much emphasis.

Finally how do we battle loneliness?

Embrace It

To sum up we embrace the wide nomad world as it is.

Endless Vista

All in all our world is an endless vista waiting to be explored.

Often in solitude.

Nomad Eclipse Rest Refit

Firstly it’s Nomad Eclipse Rest and Refit season in Western Wisconsin. Details in Nomad-Eclipse-Rest-Refit-Bob Davis Podcast 1095.

Saving A Buck

Secondly nomads never miss a chance to save a buck and take a break from the road.

Therefore that is what I am doing.

August Timeline

At least until mid August 2023.

Peeling An Onion

Above nomad travel is like peeling an onion.

Slower Travel

For example when I first started traveling I did not understand the practice of some nomads to get off the road in the spring for a while.

Then high fuel prices forced me to change my travel plans.

That is to say longer stays and shorter travel bursts.

New People and Community

The result was meeting new people and experiencing community.

Arizona To Wisconsin

Finally I drove north to Western Wisconsin from Arizona pretty quickly because of a death in the family. That is to say I left the desert sooner than I intended or expected.

Winter To Spring

However we nomads roll with the punches. Subsequently I am experiencing the winter to spring change again!

Eclipse

In addition it’s eclipse season.

Intense Feels

Which means some unusual celestial events and associated intense feels. If you’re looking for the link explaining this April’s Hybrid Eclipse, here it is.

Vintage Cabin

And I am staying at a vintage cabin soon to be moving to a lake front and back to my nightly fire.

Comforts

In conclusion it’s weird to feel weird about being comfortable!

Cool Greens

But looking forward to the cool greens and hot sun of the Midwestern Summer.

Mechanical Work

Also getting some needed work on Mobile Podcast Command. Some body work. Minor engine work. And a few other items that need to be taken care of..

Sometimes getting this kind of work done on the road can be a challenge, if not more expensive.

Campfire!

See you at the campfire!

Spring Summer Travel Plans 2023

Firstly it’s time to take a look at Spring and Summer Travel Plans. Time for a higher vibe in Spring-Summer-Travel-Plans-Bob Davis Podcast 1086.

Planning

Secondly I’ll talk a little about planning in particular in this podcast.

Southwestern Arizona

Certainly winter down in Southwestern Arizona isn’t like winter up north.

Wind and Chilly Nights

However the wind and chilly nights mean podcasting from the cozy confines of Mobile Podcast Command.

Pull Out The Maps

Above all it’s time to pull my dusty maps out.

Where and How

And to start thinking about the where and how for Spring and Summer Travel.

Playing It Safe

During these periods of high fuel prices many nomads have been playing it safe.

Hunkered Down

That is to say we’re hunkered down rather than barnstorming in order to save cash.

Hope

Meanwhile as fuel prices start to sink a little there’s hope for the future.

Ambitious Plans

In the same vein I have some pretty ambitious plans for this spring and summer’s travel.

Yes I Use Paper Maps

Most importantly I use paper maps.

Back Roads

Because I use back roads most of the time.

Save Money On Fuel

For example I’ve learned you can save money on fuel using back roads.

Plan and Navigate

But you have to know how to navigate and plan.

How To Start

As a result I usually start my planning by just looking at the maps and thinking about the best ways to go.

Greater Goals and Plans

In addition there are also greater goals and plans. I’ll devote some time to that discussion as well in Spring-Summer-Travel-Plans-Bob Davis Podcast 1086.

Where and When

After that I’ll get more specific about where to go and when.

What To Do

Even more what to do along the way.

Travel Jones

Finally we’re all getting the travel Jones.

Why Did I Hunker Down Again?

And it’s necessary every now and then to remember why we decided to hunker down in the first place.

Economic Conditions

I’ve done a few podcasts about economic conditions.

And where I think we’re headed.

I’ll be updating those as well progress into 2023.

Turn The Pages

But in the meantime it’s a lot of fun to turn the pages on these dusty maps shredded from use.

Warming Up Soon

To sum up it will be warming up in the Southwest soon and the rest of the country later.

Rubber Hits The Road

In short by then it will be time for the rubber to hit the road.

Can’t wait.
