Nomad Thanksgiving

Firstly there will be turkey for this Nomad Thanksgiving. Details in Nomad-Thanksgiving-Bob Davis Podcast 1121.

Counting Of Blessings

Secondly there will be a counting of blessings.

Planning

Finally there will be some planning for the future.

Big History For Thanksgiving

Above all Americans will be surprised to learn that Thanksgivings Per Se are not exclusively American.

In fact Pilgrims in Massachusetts and early settlers in Virginia would have brought the concept of a day of thanksgiving with them.

Because such days have been common going back eons.

Therefore counting one’s blessings on this day is the primary reason for the day.

Pressure Day

Unfortunately we have turned Thanksgiving into an affair fraught with pressure.

Pressure Season

Indeed the whole ‘holiday’ season from here on can get a little ridiculous.

Rad

So, having a nomad thanksgiving with a band of merry travelers under the Arizona sky can be pretty rad.

Even more my anxiousness this time of year always gives way to thinking about and sketching out plans for travel in the coming year.

Paradise

Compared to drunken uncles and screaming arguments about politics back home…

Nomad Thanksgiving is Paradise.

As a matter of fact I cherish this time of relative quiet to review my past travels…

And to hash over batteries, bathrooms and other issues…

Or places to check out in future travels…

With the crew.

Of course in between mouthfuls of store bought Thanksgiving Dinner and Pecan or Pumpkin Pie.

Surprisingly there will be no football games on TV or dad falling asleep on the couch this year.

Nomad Thanksgiving Is Like Eating At The Kid’s Table

Significantly it will be like eating Thanksgiving Dinner at the kid’s table so many years ago.

More Fun

Undeniably more fun than at the table with the ‘adults’.

That said it is unquestionably important to give thanks to friends…

And family…

And as a matter of fact fellow travelers.

No Pressure

All things considered it’s a great time because there’s no pressure.

In brief grab a couple of tables.

Throw out the paper plates.

Grab the dinner from the store.

Make a fresh pot of coffee.

And finally sit down.

Happy Thanksgiving!

MtWashington Forgotten Radio History

Firstly New Hampshire’s Mount Washington is incredible. But the significant role it played in the history of radio has been forgotten. Details in MtWashington-Forgotten-Radio-History-Bob Davis Podcast 1112.

Mount Washington A Must See

Altogether a visit to Mount Washington is well worth the effort.

Highest Peak In The East

Significantly the highest peak in the North Eastern US is said to have the worst weather in the world.

From The Early 1800’s

For one thing I’m amazed tourists have been toiling up over six thousand feet to the peak since the early 1800’s.

Even more hotels dotted the peak in the 1850’s.

And even a daily newspaper was published on the mountain for many years.

To The Dawn Of FM Radio

Nevertheless the mountain also has a significant radio history.

Armstrong’s Invention

In fact almost a century ago Edwin Howard Armstrong invented FM radio.

Additionally Armstrong built the first tower for FM broadcasting on the mountain.

The tower is still there.

The Yankee Network

At the same time he established the Yankee Network.

The first FM Radio Network and hence the first wireless radio network.

Industrial History

Certainly the whole complex at the top of Mount Washington is a tribute to industrial development.

Engineering

As well as the triumph of engineering.

Cog Railway and Weather Station

From the cog railway to the weather station.

In MtWashington-Forgotten-Radio-History-Bob Davis Podcast 1112 I’ll take a trip up the railway to the summit with a good friend.

To explain we both spent many years as broadcasters.

Shock

All in all it’s a shock there is almost no trace of Armstrong’s efforts on the Mountain.

Moreover that’s not New Hampshire’s fault.

InĀ  fact many thanks to the New Hampshire State Parks for giving us a great teaching tour.

Radio’s Failure

On the contrary I wonder why broadcast companies can’t seem to underwrite a permanent tribute to one of it’s greatest pioneers.

Finally maybe the industry is dying because of it’s lack of respect for its history.

Love The Peak

In the meantime I can see why Armstrong loved this peak despite it being a for real arctic zone.

To sum up it’s a must see.

Sundown-Summer-Cloudburst-Bob Davis Podcast 1106

Sundown-Summer-Cloudburst-Bob Davis Podcast 1106

A sundown summer cloudburst gives me a chance to reflect on the nature of time and space. Complete story in Sundown-Summer-Cloudburst-Bob Davis Podcast 1106.

Questions About Nomad Life

Firstly I get a lot of questions about my life as a nomad.

Certainly long time listeners have heard this before.

New Wrinkle

But Sundown-Summer-Cloudburst-Bob Davis Podcast 1106 contains a new wrinkle.

Introspection Summer

That is to say this summer has been a time of introspection.

Therefore I find myself often reviewing my decision to go on the road.

Permanently.

Commitment

As much as I engage in these flights of fancy there’s no question of my commitment to this lifestyle.

Secondly as the rain falls down on the roof of Mobile Podcast Command…

Time and Space

I discovered the relationship between time and space.

Another key point involves my own work history.

And discovering other entertainers and media people have had a similar experience.

Build Up Cool Down

Especially the build up to do a show and the cool down time necessary afterward.

In addition how much time we spend working on our craft whatever it might be.

Indeed I found day after day of preparation and shows left little time for cool down back in the day.

Forgotten Intensity

Even more years of this kind of intensity is something I had forgotten.

Until my first year of nomad travel.

Ping Ponging

Undeniably and unabashedly ping ponging back and forth across the United States.

Of course loving every minute.

Unlike that first year subsequent years have seen me slow down and take my time.

Hence discovering this concept of time and space.

Key Life Decisions

With this in mind decisions we make for ourselves can seem selfish or even crazy.

It’s only afterward the benefits become clearer.

And on balance I think a lot of the introspection this summer is tied to that day I decided to go.

Eventually I carved out the time.

Only afterward realizing it was also space.

No Orthodox Lifestyle

Finally I never wanted to live a so called orthodox lifestyle.

Road and Experience

With this intention came the road and experience.

And time.
