Nomad Rig Dreams Bob Davis Podcast 1096

Firstly there are an infinite number of ideas and plans for the vehicles we nomads drive and camp with. Details in Nomad-Rig-Dreams-Plans-Bob Davis Podcast 1096.

Current and Future Oil Prices

Secondly any discussion of getting a new rig has to include some analysis of current and future oil prices.

Economic Questions In Planning

Moreover I have done more than a few podcasts getting into the economic question over the last few months.

Wait and See Approach

However I think the best thing to do is to take a wait and see approach rather than make predictions.

Fingers Crossed For Cheaper Fuel

That being said I have my fingers crossed for a recession because it would probably herald cheaper fuel prices.

Certainly we’ll have to wait and see.

Rigs According To Use

In the meantime I classify rigs according to use.

For example RV enthusiasts have different needs than nomads.

Systems Are Delicate

Moreover it has been my experience the systems in some of the more expensive RV’s done always do well under the constant pressure of nomad travel and living full time.

Robust Is The Key

So this is why we look for more robust rigs.

Crazy Conversions

And why you see so many creative and sometimes crazy conversions of almost any kind of truck made.

That is to say ambulances, buses, airport buses, Utility and Box trucks.

Range Free

But a great deal of the so called nomad experience depends on being able to range free.

To wander.

Expensive Fuel Kills Nomad Experience

Unfortunately wandering is more difficult when fuel is expensive.

Even more there is a lot of noise out there when it comes to analysis of the markets.

Noise

As well as the predictions of the talking heads.

Metrics To Watch

As a result I’ll give you some metrics to watch as you decide what your next rig will be.

Choice

Finally our choice also depends on how long we’ve been doing this and what we feel we’ll need going forward.

No Illusions

In fact I am under no illusions or needs for luxury.

Roughing It

Even more we nomads are used to roughing it.

But creature comforts and a little more space aren’t such bad things.

Back Roads

In conclusion the rig for you depends on whether you’ll be on back roads, climbing mountains.

Cities and Interstates

Or city and Interstate driving.

Definitions

To sum up some of the terms I use in this podcast definitions for Deflation here. For inflation here. Disinflation here. And Demand Destruction here.

Back-Road-Night-Drive-Bliss-Bob Davis Podcast 842

Seven States On This Tour

People ask me what it’s like to roll through seven states in nine days. From Eastern Tennessee to the Ozarks in this podcast. Most noteworthy is a night drive. Summertime. Windows down. Join me in Back-Road-Night-Drive-Bliss-Bob Davis Podcast 842.

Angling Up

My big thing is ‘angling up’. Rolling out of Eastern Tennessee to Nashville, and then Northwest on US 70 West. Through the night.

All Back Roads

Especially relevant? All back roads and small towns. Some of them county roads and bad state roads. It’s late. A full moon. Warm and humid.

Going With The Flow. Nothing Else Matters

The theme for this podcast is the question of what’s it like to ‘go with the flow’. Sometimes you end up in a Walmart parking lot and sometimes you end up in a beautiful campsite with a fire already lit and plenty of wood.

Heading Northwest In Tennessee

From Atwood to Milan, Trenton to Dyersburg and Tiptonville it’s most noteworthy that I am visiting places in the Volunteer State I have never seen. Moreover I see the same development in some of the small towns visible in cities.

Travel Alone

Most importantly people wonder what it is like to travel alone. First of all you have to be okay with single person travel. Moreover if you take someone with you, they have to be a good spur-of-the-moment traveler. Seems like the best things happen when you are just in the moment. This is not pin-point efficiency.

Primitive Systems

Mobile Podcast Command is not a plush RV. And…we use maps!

Major Lessons Learned

Above all every now and then there’s a miscalculation that takes you many miles off course. Travelers have to be okay with those kinds of outcomes. On this drive, a major miscalculation meant a major lesson learned. It’s all good though. Learn more in Back-Road-Night-Drive-Bliss-Bob Davis Podcast 842.

Covering A Lot of Space

Finally there are a lot of people out on the road today. Whether they’re doing the Van Life thing, or camping in one of the national or state parks every now and then, I don’t know too many who cover the space I do in a short time frame.

Happiness is…

In conclusion at the end of this day of travel, I am convinced there are so many lessons learned on the back roads, this is what it’s all about. It really is true. Happiness is a clean windshield and a full tank of gas!

Podcast 340 – Mobile Podcast Command

Introducing Mobile Podcast Command Unit 8. After many delays this month, the Bob Davis Podcasts can finally announce a crowd funded mobile capability in the form of a Ford Diesel Ambulance, refitted for audio recording and travel. Aside from being a long term ambition, and part of the plan for the podcasts from the beginning, Mobile Podcast Command Unit 8 allows the Bob Davis Podcasts to get out of the bunker, and go to the story. This podcast kicks off a spring Road Trip to California, heading out right after this podcast is posted. That means a lot of Road Trip Podcasts between now and April 1st. Whatever the trials and tribulations, join the Bob Davis Podcasts as we shake down our new mobile unit. That means testing all the systems so that its ready to roll for covering major stories including Election 2016. There are a lot of listeners and subscribers to thank for listening and subscribing, but especially for donating, and we’ll be doing that by name in the next few podcasts, so listen for yours. Its hard to believe that after restarting the podcasts in 2013 (we originally kicked off in 2009), we started collecting donations, one at a time until they added up to this mobile unit. Video and more photos will be posted in the near future, as we make our way down the middle of the USA, west to Phoenix and to Los Angeles. The follow us back to Minneapolis and Saint Paul. Will Mobile Podcast Command make it? There’s only one way to find out, and that’s to hit the road! Thanks again to all who have donated, and all the sponsors of the podcasts since day one. Special mentions in this podcast for X Government Cars, and all the many friends and supporters of The Bob Davis Podcasts since the get go! Here’s to springtime, and new adventures! Oh yeah, and since we’ll need fuel for the trip … your donations are welcome at the Bob Davis Podcasts! Thanks for your patience and support.
