Nomad Rig Dreams Bob Davis Podcast 1096

Firstly there are an infinite number of ideas and plans for the vehicles we nomads drive and camp with. Details in Nomad-Rig-Dreams-Plans-Bob Davis Podcast 1096.

Current and Future Oil Prices

Secondly any discussion of getting a new rig has to include some analysis of current and future oil prices.

Economic Questions In Planning

Moreover I have done more than a few podcasts getting into the economic question over the last few months.

Wait and See Approach

However I think the best thing to do is to take a wait and see approach rather than make predictions.

Fingers Crossed For Cheaper Fuel

That being said I have my fingers crossed for a recession because it would probably herald cheaper fuel prices.

Certainly we’ll have to wait and see.

Rigs According To Use

In the meantime I classify rigs according to use.

For example RV enthusiasts have different needs than nomads.

Systems Are Delicate

Moreover it has been my experience the systems in some of the more expensive RV’s done always do well under the constant pressure of nomad travel and living full time.

Robust Is The Key

So this is why we look for more robust rigs.

Crazy Conversions

And why you see so many creative and sometimes crazy conversions of almost any kind of truck made.

That is to say ambulances, buses, airport buses, Utility and Box trucks.

Range Free

But a great deal of the so called nomad experience depends on being able to range free.

To wander.

Expensive Fuel Kills Nomad Experience

Unfortunately wandering is more difficult when fuel is expensive.

Even more there is a lot of noise out there when it comes to analysis of the markets.

Noise

As well as the predictions of the talking heads.

Metrics To Watch

As a result I’ll give you some metrics to watch as you decide what your next rig will be.

Choice

Finally our choice also depends on how long we’ve been doing this and what we feel we’ll need going forward.

No Illusions

In fact I am under no illusions or needs for luxury.

Roughing It

Even more we nomads are used to roughing it.

But creature comforts and a little more space aren’t such bad things.

Back Roads

In conclusion the rig for you depends on whether you’ll be on back roads, climbing mountains.

Cities and Interstates

Or city and Interstate driving.

Definitions

To sum up some of the terms I use in this podcast definitions for Deflation here. For inflation here. Disinflation here. And Demand Destruction here.

Nomad-Meetup-New-Mexico-Bob Davis Podcast 973

Firstly holiday season means many avoid travel restrictions with a road trip so it’s a perfect time for a nomad meetup and New Mexico is the place. Join us for Nomad-Meetup-New-Mexico-Bob Davis Podcast 973.

Secondly Las Cruces New Mexico turned out to be the perfect place.

Most importantly I’m doing the nomad thing and my friend Don Anger is doing a variation of the nomad thing.

Don works in the oil fields in Midland, Texas and lives in Case Grande, Arizona.

Even more my old radio buddy works two weeks on, and gets a week off.

Certainly like a lot of other workers these days no one’s taking any risks. Therefore Don is not alone migrating from the job, down the I-10 and back again at least twice a month.

On the other hand I am thoroughly loving the whole nomad experience. Having spent the last week or so in New Mexico, it was easy for me to head to Las Cruces.

Therefore my friend and I could meetup in Mobile Podcast Command for some coffee, and conversation.

As a result we got to share stories of the road and life’s challenges.

Above all how do we deal with issues like where we park at truck stops or Walmart parking lots. What about showers. Food. Do we travel at night or during the day?

In addition why do guys do what we do? For Don it’s about feeding a family and doing what has to be done.

But for me it’s about the open road and pure freedom.

Most importantly in this time lots of people are on the road.

Whether they’re working in one city and commuting to another or hitting the road in the same vein as I am, it doesn’t matter.

Finally even though it seems foreign, strange or even scary to some…It’s home to us.

To sum up we both get a lot of questions about life on the road. Time for a freewheeling conversation with two road warriors about what it’s like, why we do it and why we love it.

Waffle-House-Carb-Fest-Bob Davis Podcast 969

Waffle House Carb Fest

Firstly I have not been eating a lot since I hit the road. Time to join me live at the table in Waffle-House-Carb-Fest-Bob Davis Podcast 969.

Starving Myself

Secondly I did not know I was starving myself until I got dizzy.

Eating On The Road

Consequently this is a great opportunity for a podcast about eating on the road.

Smothered In Butter and Syrup

Moreover Hell yes I will have the hash browns, sausage, and scrambled eggs! And yes I will have the toast with butter. Even more I’ll take that waffle as well, smothered in butter and syrup.

Too Much Protein?

Certainly I was surprised to realize I was eating only protein and not very much of it at that.

Smoothie In The Morning – Steak At Night

For example a protein smoothie in the morning, energy bar at noon, and steak for dinner in the Walmart parking lot.

Pulling The Belt In!

Above all not a lot of carbs. Yes I lost weight. Yes I had to buy a new belt. But that’s good, right?

Questions Questions

Meanwhile people keep asking me questions about life on the road.

Where do you stay? What about RV Parks?

Grand Canyon or Truck Stop?

I see a lot of nomads posting great pics of the Grand Canyon on Instagram and Facebook. Or great hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains.

On The Beach

I have a few pics of me on a beach. However I am more of a truck stop, Walmart parking lot guy.

Work. Travel. Sleep. Do It Again.

For example pull into the truck stop and go to work on a podcast, or blog. Post it. Sleep. Get up and do it all over again.

Boondock

In the same vein I’ve certainly stayed at National Parks. In this podcast I highlight a Boondock on an abandoned beach in a National Park.

Parking Lots

But I love me a Walmart parking lot. I can get ice and a laundry bag the next day.

One Skillet Meals

Even more I am not above a one skillet meal in a truck stop parking lot, with the cook stove on the back of Mobile Podcast Command. A lot of people show off their luxurious vegan meals. One skillet lends itself to bacon and eggs.

Hash Browns Save The Day

But every now and then you need hash browns, a waffle, and some toast.

And more coffee.

Not For Everyone

Finally, my approach to nomad life isn’t for everyone but I think it’s better than touring antique shops and backing the Prevost into a 77 dollar a night RV Park ‘campsite’.
