Six Thousand Miles Backroads Part 1 Of A Series

I’ve traveled six thousand miles on the Backroads since I left Arizona in February. More than eleven states and many experiences. Details in Six-Thousand-Miles-Backroads-Part1-Bob Davis Podcast-1135.

Arizona to Wisconsin

Firstly I talk about the routes I’ve taken from Arizona to Wisconsin by way of several states.

From the Southwest

Secondly it all started in Quartzsite Arizona.

To clarify I spend my winters in the Southwest.

To The South East

So a spring wedding scheduled for March 15th in Sarasota Florida was a great motivator and trip goal.

Therefore on about February 26th, 2024 I left Quartzsite to begin what would turn out to be a six thousand mile trip.

Experiences

Above all in Six-Thousand-Miles-Backroads-Part1-Bob Davis Podcast-1135 I detail the routes and experiences along the way.

Backroads

In the same fashion I explain my motivation in staying to America’s BackRoads.

However every now and then I have to take an interstate.

But I try to keep that to a minimum.

Accordingly I headed out East along Interstate 8 in Southwestern Arizona.

Routes and Takeaways

Additionally I detail some takeaways from each state I traversed on my way to Florida.

One For The Books

All in all this trip through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and eventually Florida is one for the books.

Desert Border

For one thing the whole trip was either along the US-Mexico border

Gulf Coast

Or the Gulf Coast.

Including at length beach towns and shores along the Gulf Coast.

Series

In contrast this journey is a series because of my experiences in Florida and on up the East Coast.

Truck Stops To Parking Lots

From potential campgrounds to truck stops and parking lots it’s been quite an experience.

Overall deserts, mountains, beaches and swamps.

Small Towns

And some undeniably wonderful small towns along the way.

Low And Slow Travel

One of the points overlooked by many thinking about the nomad lifestyle is the fact that we travel low and slow.

That is to say that travel does not have to be compressed into a short period of time.

The Vast Nation

Even more the opportunity to observe and catalog vast swaths of the country seen from its back roads is key.

Media Disconnect

Most important is the country one sees from the back roads is not the country the media shows us.

Positive

In the positive side I saw a lot of development and activity this trip.

Negative

In a similar fashion I did not see mayhem on the US Border.

Conclusion

In conclusion aside from in season traffic and too much development in Florida…

There’s nothing like a long trip on the back roads.

Virginia Midnight Walk And Talk Podcast

Above all it’s finally warming up in Virginia which makes it perfect for a midnight walk and talk podcast. Even more it’s been awhile since a free wheeling walk and talk. Listen to Virginia-Midnight-Walk-And-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 984.

Chomping At The Bit

Firstly still stopped down in Virginia dealing with family matters. Secondly I am chomping at the bit to get going.

Travel Means Full Engagement

Certainly I’ve noticed that when I am on the road I am fully engaged. Up early.

Bored Sitting Still

Most importantly the longer I am stationary the more bored I get.

Up Late

Up late. Watching COPS on YouTube. Sleeping late.

Nomad Thing

Secondly it reminds me how fully committed I am to this ‘Nomad Thing’.

Short Trip Ahead

Meanwhile I plan a short trip to Florida in the coming weeks. Certainly just getting back on the road will make me feel better.

Back To The Pacific Soon

In the same vein I’m excited at the prospect of getting back to Quartzsite, Arizona to continue my wandering across California’s deserts and up the Pacific Coast.

Questions

But interesting questions have come up.

Why Does The Universe Throw Us Curve Balls?

Most importantly I’ve noticed when someone makes a decision to go ‘all in’ does the ‘universe’ throw curve balls every now and then just to test me?

Here’s a Nice House

For example I now have the opportunity to say here in a nice house if I want to. Essentially free.

Don’t Take The Easy Way Out

And people wonder, why wouldn’t you take a free house rather than driving around in that truck?

Choose Adventure

On the other hand I choose the adventure. Don’t want to take the easy way out.

What Does The Heart Want?

Finally I believe a firm choice in the direction my heart wants to go is the right choice.

Follow Your Passion

Moreover I think the ‘universe’ rewards those who follow their passion. Mine happens to be to move.

Buh Bye House

Therefore we’ll be selling the house.

Nomad Adventure in Three, Two…

In short it won’t be long before this great nomad adventure continues.

Happiness

For me happiness is a clean windshield and a full tank of fuel.

Suggestions and Support For Nomad Life

Certainly I get a lot of suggestions. And I welcome the support and interest in this nomad life effort.

Recent Suggestions

Firstly, one of recent suggestion was, get a camera in the truck. Just turn it on and record. That would be my ‘video’ channel. I appreciate the fact that people want to help and participate.

Secondly it just doesn’t work that way for me.

Nomad Life Is An Internal Process

For instance my experience is this is very much an internal process. I never knew how much noise my brain made until I decided to hit the road. Alone.

True Freedom

Even more once you give away everything you own and release the connection to place the potential to experience true freedom is there.

Your Mind Makes Noise

However the mind resists. Makes noise. Produces various reactions.

New Understanding

But until I hit the road permanently I never really fully understood.

Intensely Personal Experiences

In the same vein these are intensely personal experiences.

Personal Memories Too

As a result the memories are also personal. Although I work in the audio medium it’s very difficult to relate those internal processes, let alone produce videos about it.

A Challenging Time

Finally we’re living through a challenging time. I don’t feel it as much because I am mobile. But it’s there.

Planetary Conjunction

Above all on a date which marks the ending of the darkness and the beginning of the light, and a planetary conjunction to boot, I have some observations about that too!

Sights Smells Feelings

To sum up nomad life for me has been a jumbled collection of visual memories. Sights. Smells. Feelings.

Covering A Lot Of Ground

From Minnesota all the way through the middle of the country and deep south, to the deserts of the American Southwest.

Only Just Started

In short like life itself I’ve covered a lot of ground but it feels like I’ve only just started.
