Nomad Look Back 2023

Firstly it’s time for a look back at 2023 from the nomad perspective. Details in Nomad-Look-Back-2023-Bob Davis Podcast 1125.

No Rankings

Secondly there won’t be any rankings in this podcast.

Lessons Learned

All in all I learned a lot of lessons this year.

And share them with podcast subscribers and listeners.

Here and Now

To begin with there’s something about nomad life that keeps me in the ‘here and now’.

As a result a year in Nomad Life can feel like ten years.

Memories

So our memories can be spotty.

Even over a year’s time.

Travel

Especially when you travel as much as I have this year.

Certainly I remember where I was last year at this time.

After that it gets a little spotty.

In the first place my plan was to hang around Southwestern Arizona until Memorial Day.

But a death in the family brought me all the way back to Wisconsin by April 1st.

Winter Again

Because spring in the upper Midwest comes late I spent over a month parked in a big shed.

Summer On The Lake Shore

Finally getting to my little piece of heaven on the shores of a Wisconsin lake.

On the other hand when summer finally came it was glorious.

In spite of all that happened it was fires and dinners over the fire through the whole summer.

Headed East Coast

Then, headed across the center of the country to the East Coast.

Back Roads

One of the experiences I will remember afterwards forever was crossing the middle of the country on back roads.

Rural America

Especially avoiding all the big cities.

New Hampshire

Moreover spending a month in New Hampshire during the summer didn’t suck either.

West Again

Now I headed west again.

Gaps

In like manner I have trouble remembering the whole trip back west until I got to Tennessee, Arkansas and especially Oklahoma.

Grand Canyon

Finally getting stuck in the Grand Canyon was the best serendipitous moment of the whole summer.

Back To Southwestern Arizona

Then back here to Quartzsite, Arizona for the fourth year.

Travel Teaches

To sum up I think travel mellows us and teaches us.

Back To The Now

By all means the here and now focus of Nomad Life also changes.

Details in the podcast.

On-The-Road-With-Bob-Bob Davis Podcast 1115

On-The-Road-With-Bob-Bob Davis Podcast 1115

On the road with Bob is an answer to a question. Above all it’s the most asked question to me. What’s it like on the road.

Crazy

Even more listeners and subscribers have the impression nomad life is nothing but crazy situations and people.

By all means listen to this podcast as well as this one to learn more.

Listeners Join

At length I thought it would be a good idea to have listeners join as I rolled through Arkansas.

Where Are We Going

Especially since I really didn’t know exactly where I was heading.

Thinking And Processing While Driving

Without reservation the best thing about the zen of being on the road is being able to think.

And process visits with friends and family.

Or even life events.

Not Crazy

In fact life out here is very seldom ‘crazy’.

Equally notable is the actual absence of crazy people and crazy situations.

Accordingly one usually gets into those situations through mistakes …

Or overstepping social boundaries.

Navigation

With this in mind navigation is important.

That is to say I don’t use Google or Map features on my phone.

Ancients Called It A Map

Rather I navigate on the fly with maps.

Mistakes

From time to time mistakes are made.

Happy Accidents

But experience has taught me sometimes mistakes get you right back on track.

Nomad Requirements

Therefore if you can stand being alone…

Even while dispersed camping in a deserted national forest.

Then you’re probably a good candidate for this life.

Back On The Road

In the meantime I can’t say enough how good it feels to be back on the road again.

Behind The Windshield

With this intention the vibration behind the windshield can be quite high.

Quirks Yes

On the other hand I have my quirks.

Stopping at fast food outlets to charge my power station

Or getting off course…

Are two.

All things considered if you get off course once in awhile it’s no big deal.

Advice

In addition this podcast also carries some good examples of what passes for ‘advice’ when you travel with me.

From country music to all terrain tires, diet and more.

Summer-End-New Hampshire-Bob Davis Podcast 1111

Summer End New Hampshire

Summer end in New Hampshire. The summer of ’23 has been a great one for me. Time to take stock and prepare to head southwest. Details in Summer-End-New Hampshire-Bob Davis Podcast 1111.

Great Summer

Above all this has been a great summer.

For one thing nomads can move.

Avoided Heat

Therefore I’ve been able to avoid most of the heat.

In fact sometimes Ive been downright cold.

Places

On the other hand I have quite enjoyed all the places I’ve seen and stayed this summer.

Spring

As I have said before I left Arizona in late March.

And spent most of the spring in the shores of a cool Wisconsin lake.

Eventually it was time for travel.

Summer

Firstly heading across a sea of green fields on back roads. My podcast about that experience is here.

Secondly heading north through Pennsylvania to the great New York State. Click here for that podcast.

Finally on to Vermont and New Hampshire.

Back Roads Vibe

All in all my love of movement and back roads has been renewed.

While this may be true I have been making an effort to stay long enough here and there.

Learning

Accordingly learning about a place rather than just driving through.

Detail

Therefore in Summer-End-New Hampshire-Bob Davis Podcast 1111 there’s detail about some of the places I’ve been…

Rich Greens

Especially the rich greens of this part of the country.

History

And the history.

Not All One Thing

All things considered we have been conditioned to believe that the United States is all one thing.

Because every town has the same stores and fast food joints.

But this is really not the case.

Nomad Why’s

Due to my travels it’s become clear there’s still a lot of diversity in different places.

Accordingly this is a big reason I am a nomad.

So many places.

So little time.

Heading West Again Soon

To that end it will soon be time to head west again.

Altogether on the back roads.
