Coffee-Friends-In-Quartzsite-Bob Davis Podcast 1122

Coffee and Friends In Quartzsite

Firstly there’s nothing like connecting with old friends over coffee in Quartzsite, Arizona. Details in Coffee-Friends-In-Quartzsite-Bob Davis Podcast 1122.

Video

Secondly my friend Robert appeared with me in a Peter Santinello video about six months ago along with our friend Mike. Grab that video here.

Reconnect

So it’s great to reconnect along with all our other camping buddies here in the desert. Mike’s Podcast with me is here.

Old Friends and New Friends

Without a doubt camping here is all about connecting with old friends and new ones.

Masters Program In Nomad Life

In addition we enjoy discussions about how others do what they do.

In fact it’s like a masters program in nomad life.

Coffee

Therefore the first thing we do almost every morning is make coffee.

Bring A Chair

And we bring a chair to sit down and hash out the day.

Robert is joining me for this podcast in the same fashion.

Life Experience

All in all Robert has a lot of life experience and a great sense of humor. Robert is the Darq Nomad on YouTube. Click here for his channel.

All things considered one of the things that makes nomad life Quartzsite style so great is our combined life experience.

Allergy To Being Inside

As has been noted in these pages I was surprised to learn many of us have developed an allergy to being in a house too long.

It was for this reason I spent the summer camped along a lake shore.

Same Experiences

And I was surprised to learn several of us had the same experience.

Taking Risks

Even more one of the things I like about Robert is his willingness to take risks to get things done.

Upgrading To Utility Trailer

In Coffee-Friends-In-Quartzsite-Bob Davis Podcast 1122 Robert explains how he upgraded to a utility trailer build this summer.

To explain Robert took food service and retail jobs to help the build along.

And keep him out of a house.

This Is Home

In truth we feel at home in these campgrounds.

Certainly I think friendship is key.

But the warmth doesn’t hurt.

Poor-Man’s-Paradise-Bob Davis Podcast 1120

Poor Man’s Paradise

Firstly as city life continues to deteriorate many Americans are searching for a Poor Man’s Paradise. Secondly Quartzsite Arizona might be the best of all. Details in Poor-Man’s-Paradise-Bob Davis Podcast 1120.

Cultural Crossroads

A friend and I were discussing this point recently as an illustration of different cultural crossroads.

Q-Town

Certainly Q-Town is a cultural crossroads.

Back In The Day

But these days are not like the bad old days of the late seventies, early eighties and nineties when hundreds of thousands of RV people crowded into the campgrounds around this southwestern town back in the day.

Think Jersey Shore

Accordingly in those days the streets were as crowded in winter as the Jersey Shore in summer.

In light of that kind of traffic these days it’s tame.

No Insult

In Poor-Man’s-Paradise-Bob Davis Podcast 1120 I’ll explain the most compelling evidence why it’s no insult to refer to Quartzsite as a poor man’s paradise.

Life Is More Expensive

Certainly as everything gets more expensive only the top one percent can afford the resorts.

For one thing the perks and extras in those places would fuel steaks and wood for campfires for all of us out here for weeks.

Snow Birds and Nomads

In addition snow birds and nomads would not be able to experience the true cultural crossroads this place is.

History

Another key point is there is a history to this place.

As a matter of fact there’s a museum in town that tells the story very nicely going back to the frontier days.

Enthralled

But in the same fashion I am enthralled by the people who run the businesses here in town…

And the new friends we meet along the way.

Questions

Finally I get a lot of questions from listeners and subscribers about Quartzsite.

For one thing they want to know what it’s like.

And they want to know how to prepare for it if they come down here.

Although helpful I am not going to provide that kind of content.

Because I think people should jump in and see what it’s all about for themselves.

Experiences May Vary

To put it differently your experiences might vary.

Dark Side

Certainly some see the dark side.

Thriving Temporary Town

However I see a thriving town thrown up every year to serve campers…

And to have fun too.

Isn’t that what it’s all about?

Nomad-Rig-Dreams-Plans-Bob Davis Podcast 1096

Nomad Rig Dreams Bob Davis Podcast 1096

Firstly there are an infinite number of ideas and plans for the vehicles we nomads drive and camp with. Details in Nomad-Rig-Dreams-Plans-Bob Davis Podcast 1096.

Current and Future Oil Prices

Secondly any discussion of getting a new rig has to include some analysis of current and future oil prices.

Economic Questions In Planning

Moreover I have done more than a few podcasts getting into the economic question over the last few months.

Wait and See Approach

However I think the best thing to do is to take a wait and see approach rather than make predictions.

Fingers Crossed For Cheaper Fuel

That being said I have my fingers crossed for a recession because it would probably herald cheaper fuel prices.

Certainly we’ll have to wait and see.

Rigs According To Use

In the meantime I classify rigs according to use.

For example RV enthusiasts have different needs than nomads.

Systems Are Delicate

Moreover it has been my experience the systems in some of the more expensive RV’s done always do well under the constant pressure of nomad travel and living full time.

Robust Is The Key

So this is why we look for more robust rigs.

Crazy Conversions

And why you see so many creative and sometimes crazy conversions of almost any kind of truck made.

That is to say ambulances, buses, airport buses, Utility and Box trucks.

Range Free

But a great deal of the so called nomad experience depends on being able to range free.

To wander.

Expensive Fuel Kills Nomad Experience

Unfortunately wandering is more difficult when fuel is expensive.

Even more there is a lot of noise out there when it comes to analysis of the markets.

Noise

As well as the predictions of the talking heads.

Metrics To Watch

As a result I’ll give you some metrics to watch as you decide what your next rig will be.

Choice

Finally our choice also depends on how long we’ve been doing this and what we feel we’ll need going forward.

No Illusions

In fact I am under no illusions or needs for luxury.

Roughing It

Even more we nomads are used to roughing it.

But creature comforts and a little more space aren’t such bad things.

Back Roads

In conclusion the rig for you depends on whether you’ll be on back roads, climbing mountains.

Cities and Interstates

Or city and Interstate driving.

Definitions

To sum up some of the terms I use in this podcast definitions for Deflation here. For inflation here. Disinflation here. And Demand Destruction here.
