Truck-Stop-Cooking-Talking-Bob Davis Podcast 987

Truck Stop Cooking Talking

Above all there’s nothing like Truck Stop Cooking and Talking. Reviewing the Spring Break Road Trip so far in Truck-Stop-Cooking-Talking-Bob Davis Podcast 987.

No Small Talk

Most importantly I don’t do small talk.

Taking Stock

First of all as I think about the trip and some of the experiences so far it’s a good time to take stock.

The Flying J

Secondly the setting is a rather worn Flying J in Georgia, just off I-95 near the Florida border.

Driving All Day

Certainly I’ve been driving all day.

The Other Florida

People think of Florida as palm trees and beaches. And it has those things.

But much of Florida and especially northern Florida is largely rural and agricultural.

Recent Interviews and Experiences

Therefore my thoughts turn to one of the interviews in a recent podcast.

Holding Space

During the podcast I interviewed the owner of a coffee shop in a small town.

Someone who seemed to be doing what I call ‘holding space‘ for the community and her own passion for the work.

Take The Detour

Moreover this was one time where I allowed myself to take the detour and spend some time in the community.

Small Is Beautiful

In the same vein the idea of ‘small is beautiful’ comes to mind, and I wanted to talk about it in Truck-Stop-Cooking-Talking-Bob Davis Podcast 987.

Growth Obsessed

For instance small business people these days are beset with admonishments to grow.

Over Motivated

Even more we small business owners can be over motivated and ‘amped up’.

Win

Striving for growth. To win.

Losing Themselves?

On the other hand what if all this motivation causes a business person to lose themselves?

Community and Clientele

What happens to the community and the clientele as a result?

The Great Experience

In short we’re all looking for that ‘great experience’.

Where Does The Great Experience Come From?

In conclusion I am beginning to think that singular experience comes from business people who are more concerned with ‘holding a space’ or ‘holding space’.

Exceptional

To clarify ‘small is beautiful’ doesn’t mean poverty. It might just be a better way to create something truly exceptional.

Even more it’s not for everyone.

Small Can Be Beautiful

To sum up if you’re feeling down because your business isn’t on it’s way to being traded on the Dow, just remember small can be beautiful and truly special.

And A Pan Fried Steak

And so is a steak perfectly pan fried in the corner of a truck stop in Georgia.

Waffle-House-Carb-Fest-Bob Davis Podcast 969

Waffle House Carb Fest

Firstly I have not been eating a lot since I hit the road. Time to join me live at the table in Waffle-House-Carb-Fest-Bob Davis Podcast 969.

Starving Myself

Secondly I did not know I was starving myself until I got dizzy.

Eating On The Road

Consequently this is a great opportunity for a podcast about eating on the road.

Smothered In Butter and Syrup

Moreover Hell yes I will have the hash browns, sausage, and scrambled eggs! And yes I will have the toast with butter. Even more I’ll take that waffle as well, smothered in butter and syrup.

Too Much Protein?

Certainly I was surprised to realize I was eating only protein and not very much of it at that.

Smoothie In The Morning – Steak At Night

For example a protein smoothie in the morning, energy bar at noon, and steak for dinner in the Walmart parking lot.

Pulling The Belt In!

Above all not a lot of carbs. Yes I lost weight. Yes I had to buy a new belt. But that’s good, right?

Questions Questions

Meanwhile people keep asking me questions about life on the road.

Where do you stay? What about RV Parks?

Grand Canyon or Truck Stop?

I see a lot of nomads posting great pics of the Grand Canyon on Instagram and Facebook. Or great hikes in the Great Smoky Mountains.

On The Beach

I have a few pics of me on a beach. However I am more of a truck stop, Walmart parking lot guy.

Work. Travel. Sleep. Do It Again.

For example pull into the truck stop and go to work on a podcast, or blog. Post it. Sleep. Get up and do it all over again.

Boondock

In the same vein I’ve certainly stayed at National Parks. In this podcast I highlight a Boondock on an abandoned beach in a National Park.

Parking Lots

But I love me a Walmart parking lot. I can get ice and a laundry bag the next day.

One Skillet Meals

Even more I am not above a one skillet meal in a truck stop parking lot, with the cook stove on the back of Mobile Podcast Command. A lot of people show off their luxurious vegan meals. One skillet lends itself to bacon and eggs.

Hash Browns Save The Day

But every now and then you need hash browns, a waffle, and some toast.

And more coffee.

Not For Everyone

Finally, my approach to nomad life isn’t for everyone but I think it’s better than touring antique shops and backing the Prevost into a 77 dollar a night RV Park ‘campsite’.

TruckStop-Washday-Four-States-24hours-Bob Davis Podcast 905

Seven States

First of all after hitting seven states in less than three weeks, it’s time for a break. Learn more about my latest mega trip in TruckStop-Washday-Four-States-24hours-Bob Davis Podcast 905.

Questions About Travel

These days I am asked a lot of questions about my travels.

Food and Laundry

Certainly the best questions are about simple stuff. What do you eat? Where do you do your laundry? Is Mobile Podcast Command an RV?

Truck Stops

Let’s start with two friends of the traveler. WalMart and Truck Stops.

Pilot!

When it comes to Truck Stops I have my favorites. Flying J, Pilots, Loves and T/A’s. Even more, some of the truck stops with names I can’t remember are great. Pilot is my favorite.

Wash Day At The Truck Stop

In TruckStop-Washday-Four-States-24hours-Bob Davis Podcast 905 we spend wash day at the Pilot south of San Antonio, Texas. The music’s classic rock, the People’s Court is on TV and there’s a full range of stuff to look at.

Travel In An America You Don’t See On TV

In addition in this podcast I make some observations about travel in an America saturated with political ‘news’ coverage.

Stressed Drivers and Travelers Need Calm

In contrast at most of the truck stops there’s no CNN, or Fox News or talk radio. There’s country, and classic rock, and a generally calm atmosphere for stressed truckers and travelers.

Back On The Road

Fill up. Get Something to eat. Take a shower. Do some laundry. Back on the road.

24 Hours of Driving and Back To Minnesota

Four states in one day in this podcast. From San Antonio to Dover, Oklahoma, and then onto Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, to finally end in Minnesota on an unusual sunny and warm day in February.

Unsung Heroes

Here’s to the unsung heroes on the road. The drivers, the people at the Pilot, the WalMart, the guy in Oklahoma who stopped to talk to me about my T-shirt.

No Academy Awards Here

Especially relevant is the fact that none of these people will probably ever win an academy award, run for congress, or even make a speech beyond funerals or their kids’ birthday parties.

On The Job

Above all though, they’re back on the job every day. All across this vast country.

Real America

Finally it was a great relief to see real America after two weeks of speechifying and media coverage of politics in Iowa.
