Adventure Freedom History

Adventure, Freedom and History in Death Valley and The Eastern Sierras. There’s so much to see and so many thoughts! Details in Adventure-Freedom-History-Bob Davis Podcast 1155.

Death Valley Eastern Sierras

Firstly my last podcast dealt with the Eastern part of Death Valley. Podcast 1155 deals with the Western Part of Death Valley and the Eastern Sierras.

Freezing In Lone Pine California

Secondly I am doing this podcast as I exit the freezing northern reaches of Lone Pine California and head for warmer parts of Southern California.

Most importantly heavy winds and near freezing temperatures make it pretty cold up in the mountains.

Pioneers

That is to say given the elements I don’t know how the pioneers even considered trekking up the Sierras with their belongings and animals.

Donner Party

Certainly the Donner Party experience led to later western emigrants to seek a southern route.

Death Valley Days

This literally led through Death Valley.

History

Altogether I love the history in the west.

Western History

But the Death Valley Sierra area is jam packed with all kinds of historical stories.

Beauty

Even more every view is packed with beauty.

Heading South

With this in mind while I retreat to warmer climes I am doing this podcast in Mobile Podcast Command as I head south.

Freedom

Above all this is a great time to discuss issues of freedom.

At the present time I am struck by the number of people I know who feel deeply constrained in their jobs,

Pressure

Even more life seems also to be exerting a tremendous weight on shoulders ‘back in the world’.

Nomad

All things considered I think this is one of the reasons people are so interested in nomad life.

Wearing Out Arizona

Firstly I am wearing Arizona out right now. High fuel prices means spending more time in individual states. Learn more in Wearing-Arizona-Out-Bob Davis Podcast 1026.

Got A Thing

Secondly I have had a thing for Arizona for a long time.

Search For The Old West

Above all I continue the search for the Old West.

All Desert

Even more now that the colder weather is filtering down from the Canyon to the Mountains it’s all desert for me.

Love It!

And I couldn’t be happier.

More Time In Arizona

As the result of higher fuel prices I am adjusting my travel plans so that I can spend more time in certain places.

Nomads In A Good Position

Certainly I’ve made the case that nomads are better positioned to reduce their exposure to inflation. Click here for that podcast.

Free Camping

Even more since orienting to this new plan I have become very focused on dispersed camping, free camping and even hanging out at Truck Stops when I am in transit. I share some of those tips in Wearing-Arizona-Out-Bob Davis Podcast 1026.

Something About Arizona

But overall there is something about Arizona.

Maybe it’s the sunsets.

Juniper

In addition I can never get enough of the scent of juniper on the fire.

Pines And Mountains

Or the pines and the mountain woods.

Highways

Finally we have all seen the Arizona Highways pictures.

On the other hand there are some amazing highways and views in this state. In the past few weeks I’ve had the pleasure to experience many of them.

Plan

To sum up we nomads are lucky. If we plan it right we can avoid spending too much money.

Low Profile

And I am still learning how to achieve as low a profile as possible so I am not exposed to the higher and higher prices.

As a result I get to see some really cool places that most wouldn’t bother.

Whether it’s Gila Bend in the south or the Navajo Nation to the north.

Off The Beaten Path

In the same vein if you can get off the beaten paths anywhere you get to see different parts of the US and these are some of the best places, in my opinion.

MYSOTU. What started as a courtesy to Congress by President Washington has morphed into an irritating media spectacle, bordering on – no wait, it has become – obscene. It is time for every American to use whatever media you can, to deliver your own State of The Union Message. Line some chairs up, invite friends over, have the postal worker down the block join you, so you can use him as an example during your speech, make sure everyone wears a suit, add klieg lights and cameras for effect. If you have a teleprompter or two laying around, throw them in as well. (Editor’s Note: I invited congress to join me, but they had other things to do, so my State of The Union Address is delivered from the Broadcast Bunker.) The media machine cannot be without a story, and beheadings are getting old, so the new story line is the President is pugnaciously at least, thumbing his nose at Congress. Somehow this is viewed as new behavior, though he has been doing it all along. The results? President Obama lost the House and then the Senate is a series of historically bad election cycles for The President’s party, yet analysts think somehow, now that Republicans are in charge in Congress, he’ll get different results. Moreover, the President’s restless flying around the country and making speeches, offering candy and popcorn to the masses is now considered something called Populism. If you are a media commentator and you say the word ‘Populist’ and another word like, ‘Electorate’ in the same sentence, people think you’re smart. Populism? What’s that. Nothing, really. Nothing that can be defined as a real political philosophy or ‘policy’ per se. Using the standard definitions, your dog could be a ‘Populist’, and probably a pretty good one. The ‘Populist’ President wants to raise taxes on the rich, give it back to the middle class, if the middle class sops perform tricks and jump through rings of fire to get tax ‘credits’. Thanks! Meanwhile, he wants to increase spending by something like 7 percent, to add to an already massive public debt, the largest ever accrued in one administration in history. But hey, we got a baseball cap and a beer can insulator, right? Republicans? They’re going to fix it all so it works, don’t you know that? What it comes down to is Statist, versus Non Statist, and there are an awful lot of Statists in Washington right now. The good news? The Bob Davis Podcasts SOTU is mercifully short. The post SOTU party awaits. Sponsored by X Government Cars
