Sheer Joy Of GoGoGoGo

Firstly been doing podcasts lately on Nomad Backlash so it’s time to talk about the Sheer Joy of GoGoGo. Let’s get into it in Sheer-Joy-Of-GoGoGo-Bob Davis Podcast 1052.

Patron Saint Of Nomads

Secondly I think it’s fair to day that Jack Kerouac is the patron saint of the nomad experience.

On The Road

And in keeping with the sentiment of ‘On The Road’ I will not call it the nomad ‘movement’.

Above all I read ‘On The Road’ when I was still in my teens.

Wanderlust Forever

Moreover I wonder if the book influenced me or if wanderlust was a part of my soul even then.

American West Different Then

Even more when the beat generation had its romance with the American West I should think the texture and tone of the people and the land was considerably different in the late 1940’s.

Than These Days

Most importantly these days we’re exhorted to ‘subscribe’ and ‘like’.

To lend our sovereignty to prepacked ‘movements’.

Because that’s what you do today.

Social Media Oppresses

Most importantly this desire for relevance through social media is one of the things that makes life so oppressive.

Cutting Loose

Therefore the ongoing and burgeoning romance with cutting loose.

Hitting the road.

That is to say living in the now.

No yesterday or tomorrow. Just Sheer-Joy-Of-GoGoGo-Bob Davis Podcast 1052.

Quest For Authenticity

Meanwhile there is this great question of authenticity.

For example if you spend anytime on certain so called ‘business’ social media platforms these days ‘authenticity’ seems to be the most sought after virtue.

One Day At A Time Is Good Enough

After that on the road there is a sense of finding yourself if you can live one day at a time.

Good Time To Talk

In addition I think this is a good time to talk about this quest.

And the fact that achieving this sense of authenticity seems so difficult for some.

The Flow Is Out Here

On the other hand out here on the road it seems to just flow.

Sheer Joy

Further this is the sheer joy of going and going and going.

First Year

Finally in this podcast I talk a little about my first year on the road.

Roaring across the landscape coast to coast and border to border.

And More

And how it’s been since then.

A Beat Poet Leaves A Gift

But most importantly what an incredible gift Kerouac left us without ever intending to wanting to be a ‘movement’.

Questions

To sum up let’s ask some questions about our own quests.

What’s we’re pushing to realize out here on the two lane roads of America.

Kafkaesque-Route 66-Bob Davis Podcast 793

What if you’d gone to sleep in 1980 and woke up in 2019? I think Jessie Pinkman’s Breaking Bad “Kafkaesque” line would describe these days pretty well. Learn more in Kafkaesque-Route 66-Bob Davis Podcast 793.

Time Off

I planned to take some time off around the new year. One day stretched into 3, then 5. I came back to bizarre claims from the president, silly questions from reporters, and more talking heads telling us what we already know. You know, Kafkaesque.

Streaming TV Drama

What did I do? Like everyone else I retreated to streaming television drama. Moreover after exhausting the supply of shows to watch, I ended up finding four seasons of the old TV show “Route 66” on Amazon Prime.

1960 Corvette

What’s most noteworthy about this 1960 black and white drama? Two guys driving across the country on backroads in a 1960 Corvette getting into situations.

Route 66 Remake

First of all, while watching the show, I googled all the places the show’s characters drive through. Yes, I have been to many of them. In addition to providing an excellent escape from our current nonsense, I decided someone should remake Route 66. (Editor’s note: If you follow the links you’ll see that someone actually did remake the show, but it was horrible. I am thinking what David Simon, Matt Weiner or Ann Biderman could do with it.)

We All Think It Is Absurd

I don’t think I am out of line to suggest that the current news and political situation is theater of the absurd. Also I think many people feel the same way.

Resolution Please

Certainly this is why I have suggested many times the best way for me to contribute is to be strong enough to wait for a conclusion. Even more a resolution. With some kind of ‘way point’ there is less confusion. Pointing out options and ideas is less likely to trigger listener’s emotional reactions.

Where Are We Headed? Somewhere.

In conclusion, like the guys in Route 66, we’re headed somewhere. We just don’t know where yet.
