Walking The Nomad Labyrinth

Above all travel is a meditation so walking the nomad labyrinth is what it’s all about. What’s a labyrinth? Learn more in Walking-Nomad-Labyrinth-Bob Davis Podcast 1028.

Mission

Firstly when I pulled away from my house over a year ago to start this adventure I didn’t really have a mission. A reason for doing what I was doing.

Just Driving

Secondly I learned pretty quickly there is a meditative quality to just driving. Just watching the landscape roll by.

Coast To Coast

And this is what I did consistently for a year. Coast to coast. Border to Border. Crisscrossing the Midwest many times.

Slow Down

These days I’ve decided to slow down. Spend some time in places I’m interested in.

Finding A Footing

Therefore my podcasts have been a little more philosophical lately due to finding new footing in a slower travel approach.

Mission Statement For Second Year

Most importantly right now I am working to define a mission statement for the second year of travel.

Just Scratched The Surface

Because I feel like I have only scratched the surface.

Getting To Know A Place

Whether I am in some dusty Texas beach town or here in Quirky Quartzsite Arizona I am spending a little more time to get to know the town and its people.

Cue The Wanderlust

Certainly I haven’t lost my wanderlust.

New Orientation

And I have detailed my new orientation to higher fuel prices.

Campground Is Home

However I was a little surprised at how easily I’ve settled in on a Bureau of Land Management Campground just north of town.

More Time To Think

As a result I have some time to think in some different ways.

Urban Life

For example lately I’m interested in how the pressures and intensity of urban life doesn’t really effect the nomad.

Challenges

Certainly we have our trials and tribulations, but even these often become fun challenges.

Learning New Skills

Even more we’re always learning new skills, back road routes and about new campsites and rigs.

Internal Processes

Finally what has always interested me is the internal processes we nomads experience.

Common and Extraordinary

And I think those experiences are both common and extraordinary among the nomad community.

Walk About Talk About

In short this is what I have decided to talk about when I am relating my nomad experiences.

That is to say there are plenty of communicators talking about the best bike rack to buy for your rig, or where to get new tires and how to dump your tanks somewhere.

Not Easy

On the other hand these sometimes powerfully emotional experiences we have are not easy to put into words, let alone talk about.

Choices

But that is what I have chosen to do.

To sum up some of these musings are better than others, when it comes to a Podcast.

In the same vein it’s all part of the work.

Colorado-Campsite-Ghosts-Bob Davis Podcast 1014

Live From A Colorado Campsite To Talk About Ghosts

Firstly this podcast is live from a Colorado Campsite and we’re gonna talk about ghosts. Learn more in Colorado-Campsite-Ghosts-Bob Davis Podcast 1014.

Squeamish?

Secondly the only disclaimer I would offer is that some people are squeamish about these things.

And others don’t like the whole of idea of spirits in another realm able to show themselves to us, talk to us or even touch us.

Ghosts Of The American West

But if you can get past all that the fact is the American West is full of ghosts.

Strong Opinions

Most importantly because of the strong opinions surrounding this kind of thing I am not identifying the campsite we’re in, and I’ll call my interview subject ‘Bonnie’.

Colorado Is Haunted

Finally Colorado itself has many a haunted place.

‘Bonnie’ has been to most of those places and documented the existence of these entities over the years.

Know The Feeling

More importantly those of us who’ve spent any time camping out here know the feeling.

For example, you’ve gotten into an isolated campsite. Set your camp up. Got the fire going.

Something Doesn’t Feel Right

However something doesn’t feel right.

Spirits In The Natural World

Are there spirits in the national parks and forests?

‘Bonnie’ says yes.

How To Handle It

Even more she’ll tell us how to handle the feeling and what to do if you have an encounter.

They Can Touch Us?

Certainly the idea that a ghost can touch us threw me for a loop.

Visited By Loved Ones

Similarly ‘Bonnie’ says we’re often visited by loved ones who have passed. And she tells some great stories about her father’s attempts to let her know he’s there.

You Might See Them And Not Know

In addition what about ghosts that appear in a corporeal form? You may be seeing them and not even know it. We’ve got a story about that too.

To sum up most of my readers and listeners know how much I love the west.

It’s All A Land Of Enchantment

Even more I believe all of the west is a land of enchantment, not just New Mexico.

Native Americans Knew It Too

Certainly there’s plenty of Native American Lore dating back to the times before any Europeans came to this continent.

Spooky

In the same vein American Indians knew there were places across this land that could have been termed ‘spooky’ for one reason or another, and accepted the idea of ‘ghosts’.

Thanks In Order

In conclusion I want to personally thank two of the most interesting people I have met in my travels and visits to National Parks and US Forest Campgrounds.

Talk-About-Vermont-Bob Davis Podcast 1008

Let’s Talk About Vermont!

Talk about Vermont. Firstly I did not know what to expect when I crossed the state line. My reaction in Talk-About-Vermont-Bob Davis Podcast 1008

Purpose

Secondly there was a purpose to this Vermont tour.

Interested In Vermont

To clarify a family member is interested in Vermont.

Wisconsin To Burlington

Therefore my nephew flew out to Burlington from Wisconsin so we could take a tour.

The Green Mountain State

Navigating The Green Mountain State

Opportunity

Above all a great opportunity for me to drive while my nephew navigated and took us where we wanted to go.

Mountains, Lakes, Forests, Farms

You think Vermont’s landscape is photographed as much as Arizona’s? It ought to be.

No Bugs,Billboards And Not Too Many People

Most importantly no bugs to speak of. No billboards.

We Didn’t Even See A Walmart

Even more no shopping centers, malls or fast food to speak of either.

Rural Landscape

Because of this Vermont’s rural landscape is like a walk back in time.

Rich Greens

Likewise the the colors are spectacular and it’s not even fall.

Covered Bridges

And there are plenty of covered bridges, ski towns and leafy college towns.

Great Back Roads

We spent a lot of time on the back roads which is essentially the entire state.

Ski Towns and Bigger Towns

But we checked out the Capital in Montpelier and of course Burlington and Rutland.

Lake Champlain And Calvin Coolidge

Further there are all kinds of historical points of interest the traveler can’t miss.

Great State Parks

Moreover the Vermont State Parks are great.

Lean Tos and Guard Houses

We stayed in more than one and I even got a chance to nearly destroy one state park’s guardhouses.

Listen!

Find out what happened in Talk-About-Vermont-Bob Davis Podcast 1008.

Is This The Land Of Milk And Honey?

Finally are there problems in Vermont? Well it’s not all Milk and Honey.

Certainly there are problems.

One thing almost everyone said was, “It’s expensive to live here”.

Freedom and Unity

But I didn’t hear anyone saying, “I can’t wait to get out of here”.

Vermonters we talked to were pretty proud of their state which has Freedom and Unity as their motto.

In short I hear a lot from my friends in so called red states about how screwed up these ‘liberal’ states are.

But it’s pretty difficult to find something I didn’t like up here.

Didn’t Want To Leave

My nephew didn’t want to leave and I would sure love to come back sometime in the fall.

Back In The Fall…

However we’ll leave winter to the more adventurous.
