Walking The Nomad Labyrinth

Above all travel is a meditation so walking the nomad labyrinth is what it’s all about. What’s a labyrinth? Learn more in Walking-Nomad-Labyrinth-Bob Davis Podcast 1028.

Mission

Firstly when I pulled away from my house over a year ago to start this adventure I didn’t really have a mission. A reason for doing what I was doing.

Just Driving

Secondly I learned pretty quickly there is a meditative quality to just driving. Just watching the landscape roll by.

Coast To Coast

And this is what I did consistently for a year. Coast to coast. Border to Border. Crisscrossing the Midwest many times.

Slow Down

These days I’ve decided to slow down. Spend some time in places I’m interested in.

Finding A Footing

Therefore my podcasts have been a little more philosophical lately due to finding new footing in a slower travel approach.

Mission Statement For Second Year

Most importantly right now I am working to define a mission statement for the second year of travel.

Just Scratched The Surface

Because I feel like I have only scratched the surface.

Getting To Know A Place

Whether I am in some dusty Texas beach town or here in Quirky Quartzsite Arizona I am spending a little more time to get to know the town and its people.

Cue The Wanderlust

Certainly I haven’t lost my wanderlust.

New Orientation

And I have detailed my new orientation to higher fuel prices.

Campground Is Home

However I was a little surprised at how easily I’ve settled in on a Bureau of Land Management Campground just north of town.

More Time To Think

As a result I have some time to think in some different ways.

Urban Life

For example lately I’m interested in how the pressures and intensity of urban life doesn’t really effect the nomad.

Challenges

Certainly we have our trials and tribulations, but even these often become fun challenges.

Learning New Skills

Even more we’re always learning new skills, back road routes and about new campsites and rigs.

Internal Processes

Finally what has always interested me is the internal processes we nomads experience.

Common and Extraordinary

And I think those experiences are both common and extraordinary among the nomad community.

Walk About Talk About

In short this is what I have decided to talk about when I am relating my nomad experiences.

That is to say there are plenty of communicators talking about the best bike rack to buy for your rig, or where to get new tires and how to dump your tanks somewhere.

Not Easy

On the other hand these sometimes powerfully emotional experiences we have are not easy to put into words, let alone talk about.

Choices

But that is what I have chosen to do.

To sum up some of these musings are better than others, when it comes to a Podcast.

In the same vein it’s all part of the work.

Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999

Death Valley Solitude

Above all the lessons you learn on the road is the value of solitude, especially in Death Valley. The trip out of LA to the park and much more in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Questions About My Experience

Certainly people ask questions about what life is like as a nomad.

First of all one of the best questions came from a good friend recently.

What lessons have you learned on the road?

Secondly I had to really think about that one.

Bustle Of The City

Subsequently I spent a week with friends and family in the LA area. Mobile Podcast Command needed service. Between having six or seven people in the house and three kids it was hectic to say the least.

Seeking Solitude

Consequently rather than head up the Pacific Coast I sought the solitude of Death Valley.

Hub Bub Is Good

To clarify I’d just say I think travelers need the normalcy and hub bub of family life every now and then.

So Is Solitude

However I have come to rely on the solitude this life brings. I’ll share why in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Enter Death Valley

What better place to enjoy it than in the vastness of Death Valley.

Desert Meditation

These days the more time I spend in the desert the more I value the whole thing as a sort of meditation.

Rock and Hot Wind

To sum up I don’t need incense and chanting. I just need to see rock, sand and feel the hot wind.

Modern Life?

Moreover it seems to me that much of what we take as the essentials of modern life is pretty much nonsense.

Conversation

Especially conversation.

Mountains and Canyons

For example, gossip, politics, movies and TV shows all pale in contrast to the view into a Death Valley canyon from a mountaintop.

Deep Conversation

Most importantly it makes me wonder why conversation isn’t deeper.

Search For Meaning

How important certain people are to us.

What the meaningful things in life really are.

Why People Seek Out The Wilderness

In addition I used to wonder why so many Van life and nomad people seek out the wilderness.

Now I know.

Learning Something About Solitude

Further at the edge of these mountains and throughout my nomad travel experience I’ve learned something about solitude.

Pleased To Meet You

In conclusion the thing I’ve learned is you meet yourself on the road.

Everyday People

And, above all, some amazing everyday people.

Inspired By A Random Conversation

I wasn’t going to do this podcast. Then I had a most noteworthy random conversation and it convinced me I was on the right track. Learn more when you listen to Authentic-Self-Ego-Driven-World-Bob Davis Podcast 861.

No Bitching and Moaning

Moreover I certainly did not want to do another podcast bitching and moaning about social media. Or a long story about how talk radio listeners respond to content, compared to how podcast subscribers and listeners react.

Conversation Triggers A Podcast

I was networking recently with a friend and business associate. We ended up at his law office having a great conversation about music, life and of course we ended up talking about the national political conversation these days.

Social Media

Of course social media came up and this was when I was convinced to do this podcast.

Yoga Takes You From One Place To Another

First of all my daily yoga practice is never far from my conscious thoughts. Lately I have been considering how that practice has changed me over the years. How yoga has brought me to a much stronger awareness of my inner self, or authentic self, versus the ego. That’s what I wanted to do a podcast on at some point.

Tacking To Our Authentic Self

It’s especially relevant that this recent conversation triggered that line of thought and this podcast. How tacking toward your authentic self changes your perceptions of the world and especially politics.

Mission Of This Podcast Has Changed Over The Years

It’s for that reason that the mission of The Bob Davis Podcast has changed from opinions about issues and events, with a concentration on politics, to a conversation about outcomes and their effects on individuals and society.

What The Ego Wants

Finally the fact is the ego wants gratification, material success, power and recognition. Not all of that is bad necessarily. But, the authentic self doesn’t need any of those things.

In conclusion yogis will ‘get it’. I wonder whether political people will.
