Death Valley Solitude

Above all the lessons you learn on the road is the value of solitude, especially in Death Valley. The trip out of LA to the park and much more in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Questions About My Experience

Certainly people ask questions about what life is like as a nomad.

First of all one of the best questions came from a good friend recently.

What lessons have you learned on the road?

Secondly I had to really think about that one.

Bustle Of The City

Subsequently I spent a week with friends and family in the LA area. Mobile Podcast Command needed service. Between having six or seven people in the house and three kids it was hectic to say the least.

Seeking Solitude

Consequently rather than head up the Pacific Coast I sought the solitude of Death Valley.

Hub Bub Is Good

To clarify I’d just say I think travelers need the normalcy and hub bub of family life every now and then.

So Is Solitude

However I have come to rely on the solitude this life brings. I’ll share why in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Enter Death Valley

What better place to enjoy it than in the vastness of Death Valley.

Desert Meditation

These days the more time I spend in the desert the more I value the whole thing as a sort of meditation.

Rock and Hot Wind

To sum up I don’t need incense and chanting. I just need to see rock, sand and feel the hot wind.

Modern Life?

Moreover it seems to me that much of what we take as the essentials of modern life is pretty much nonsense.

Conversation

Especially conversation.

Mountains and Canyons

For example, gossip, politics, movies and TV shows all pale in contrast to the view into a Death Valley canyon from a mountaintop.

Deep Conversation

Most importantly it makes me wonder why conversation isn’t deeper.

Search For Meaning

How important certain people are to us.

What the meaningful things in life really are.

Why People Seek Out The Wilderness

In addition I used to wonder why so many Van life and nomad people seek out the wilderness.

Now I know.

Learning Something About Solitude

Further at the edge of these mountains and throughout my nomad travel experience I’ve learned something about solitude.

Pleased To Meet You

In conclusion the thing I’ve learned is you meet yourself on the road.

Everyday People

And, above all, some amazing everyday people.

Beating The Travel Blues In Arkansas

Firstly you would be forgiven for wondering why I would even need to beat the travel blues in Arkansas. Above all other places. But the travel blues can bite you in the ass without warning. Learn more in Beating-Travel-Blues-In-Arkansas-Bob Davis Podcast 993.

Goal Oriented

Secondly we live in a goal oriented culture.

Need Must Do Or Die

Want to becomes need to. Must do. Do or die.

Relentless

More importantly when I’m pursuing a goal I can be relentless.

Frustrated

Consequently I found myself in Arkansas the other day, frustrated and ticked off.

Preconceived Notions About The Day

To clarify I had this image in my head of just how the day was going to go. I would end up at the perfect campsite, right by the side of the road!

Arkansas

Certainly I had meticulously planned my transit through Arkansas.

Coffee Filters?

And then I ran out of coffee filters.

Haywire

As a result my day went haywire.

Off Intention…Off Course

In short I ended up on a highway I never intended to be on and wasn’t sure where I was going.

Change Your Attitude Brah

On the other hand it ended perfectly. Find out how in Beating-Travel-Blues-In-Arkansas-Bob Davis Podcast 993.

Ride Up Front With Me

Even more in this podcast you get to ride up front with me!

Lessons Learned

In the same vein there are many lessons I learn on the road.

Where’s The Fire?

For one thing I can forget I don’t have a tether and I don’t need to press on as though there’s no tomorrow.

How I Learn

Moreover this is how I can learn lessons that have applications to every day life.

Bliss Isn’t Always As Easy As It Looks

In addition though I talk about travel zen, reaching that state of bliss isn’t always as easy as I think it will be.

Ouachita National Forest

Finally I had to shift gears as I headed through the gorgeous Ouachita National Forest on my way to Dallas, Texas.

Short But Complex

In conclusion this is a short podcast about a complex issue.

Plans?

To sum up what happens when life doesn’t quite go the way we planned and expected?

We Don’t Need No Stinking Plans

In short sometimes the best things in life are the results of mistakes and miscalculations.

Now About Those Coffee Filters!

Or because someone runs out of coffee filters.

Mega Road Trip!

I have started the countdown clock for departure for my 2019 Thanksgiving Mega Road Trip. Find out why I only do back roads. In addition, why am I taking a trip through the American Midwest. Learn more in Thanksgiving-Road-Trip-Planning-Bob Davis Podcast 876.

Back Roads Only Please

As far as I am concerned back roads are most noteworthy. I don’t do freeways or toll roads. The back roads are where you learn what is really going on in this country.

Podcasting From The Road

Moreover I really have a passion for podcasting from Mobile Podcast Command, a ‘repurposed’ 2000 ambulance.

Places No One Ever Reports On Or Goes To

On America’s two lane state, county and farm roads, a traveler sees and feels places no one ever goes to or reports on.

“No One Ever Comes Here”

Especially relevant are two Iowa farmers I interviewed last summer. With all the politicians in Iowa you’d think someone would have knocked on their doors. “That’s all up in Des Moines”, they said. “No one ever comes here to talk to us”.

Real America

In contrast I’ve taken the back roads from coast to coast, north and south, east and west. Because of the back roads I’ve learned a lot about America.

Mysterious Ancient Paper Maps

As a result I have learned the value of a mysterious thing called a map. I don’t mean google maps. I’m talking about paper maps. I’ll explain in Thanksgiving-Road-Trip-Planning-Bob Davis Podcast 876.

Exact Route

Above all I’ll give you the exact route I’ll be taking this Thanksgiving across Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia and Virginia. Pretty much all back roads.

RV Nomads

Finally when I started back roading in mobile podcast command, there weren’t very many RV Nomads out there. This podcast is a salute to all the Van Life and Skoolie Conversion people I follow. Now there are millions. Maybe they’re onto something.

Mobile Podcast Command Is Primitive

In contrast I won’t be living in relative luxury in my RV. Mobile Podcast Command is primitive. I sleep in a hammock. Cook my dinners on a camp stove. I Take showers at Yoga studios and Truck Stops. I do have a coffee maker, however.

Real Happiness Through Travel

Above all, happiness is a clean windshield and a full tank of fuel.
