SlabCity USA and The Salton Sea

Above all this part of California is not a resort and SlabCity or the Salton Sea is no exception. Details in SlabCity-USA-Salton-Sea-Bob Davis Podcast 1047.

Slab City Gets A Lot Of Media

Firstly I have seen articles about Slab City USA for years.

Hot Springs

Even more a person appeared in our camp in Arizona recently and insisted we go to Slab City ‘if only for the hot springs‘.

New Experience

Secondly I have never experienced the hot springs.

Short Distance

And since high fuel prices are slowing everyone’s roll we thought heading a short distance over to SlabCity USA was a good plan.

Not A Resort

Most importantly Slab City itself is not a resort.

Of course there are some RV campgrounds.

America’s Last Free Place

But most of the people at Slab City are not your average RV Life Community.

Slabbies

Certainly the so called ‘Slabbies’ are my kind of people.

Don’t Bring The Million Dollar Rig…Or Bring It

On the other hand they might not be your kind of people if you’re rig is an eight hundred thousand dollar coach.

Salton Sea

In addition there is the whole Salton Sea experience.

Mistake Lake

For example The Salton Sea itself was created by mistake.

Mecca For 1960’s Tourists Is Dying

Moreover the sea is dying although it was a mecca for tourists back in the day.

Which is kind of cool.

Details in SlabCity-USA-Salton-Sea-Bob Davis Podcast 1047.

Leave Some Attractions

Meanwhile I did not visit the so called Slab City Monument for some of the other attractions here.

We Always Come Back

In short I have learned over the years to leave some experiences because we always come back.

Novelty

And of course I want my travel experiences to have some novelty to them as time goes on.

Partial To Hot Springs

Further I am kind of partial to the hot springs.

Finally a little primer and what you’ll see and some of the people you will meet if you’re going to visit SlabCity USA.

Travel These Days

To sum up I am taking shorter trips as I travel these days.

Deeper Experiences

On the other hand I am seeing and getting to know places I want to come back to.

Isn’t that what it’s all about?

(Editor’s Note: Every now and then I make a silly mistake. I don’t know why but I said Slab City is “Something like six hundred THOUSAND acres”, which would make it very large indeed, even for a former Marine Base. Slab City USA is in fact something like 632 acres. Still pretty large, right?)

Coping-With-Setbacks-Shortages-Bob Davis Podcast 1020

Coping With Setbacks and Shortages

Above all no one ever said coping with setbacks and shortages is easy. You can let shortages and setbacks ruin the travel vibe or stay in the flow. Learn about my latest exploits on the road in Nevada in Coping-With-Setbacks-Shortages-Bob Davis Podcast 1020.

Trying To Take My Time Traveling

Firstly I’ve been making quite an effort lately to take my time traveling.

The Plan

Secondly the plan was to spend several days in Nevada.

Not To Be

This was not to be.

Losing A Tire In The Vastness of Nevada

To clarify heading into a campground in the middle of nowhere in the Silver State I blew a tire.

Ely Nevada Is All Right

On the other hand the good news is four tires on the back of mobile podcast command so the remaining three tires carried me safely an additional 48 miles to Ely, Nevada.

Four Kick Ass New Tires And A Oil Change

Further I got myself four new all terrain tires and had a great time in a pretty cool small town in the mountains.

Attitude

As a result of all this I was reminded again how important attitude is.

Gratitude

Gratitude and staying in the flow allowed me to get through this mini crisis with ease.

Be Happy When You Have To Deal With Problems

Moreover I had a pretty good time dealing with some difficult issues.

Even more considering stories in the news about shortages getting four new tires and the filter for the oil change in a small town out west was no small feat.

Parallel To Real Life

Certainly there is a parallel to real life here.

Something’s Going To Give

Most importantly sooner or later something’s got to give.

Just Don’t Lose It

After that some people freak out and the experience ruins their day, trip, month or life.

Right?

Facts Of Nomad Life

However one thing about nomad life I have experienced.

Sooner or later you’re going to end up on the side of the road.

Life Too

So it is with normal life.

Shortages

For example you don’t have to go very deep into social media to learn there are earth shattering shortages coming.

Preppers Cleaning Up

Buy dried food and put it in the basement, right?

Media Horror Stories

Even more there are all kinds of potential horror stories about the pandemic, real estate prices and the stock market to boot.

Stay In The Flow

Finally the one thing I have learned is to stay in the attitude of gratitude.

And to stay in the high vibration travel vibe.

To sum up no one wants to spend a ton of money on new tires.

No one wants to deal with national and international economic issues, right?

On the other hand adults know these things happen.

Therefore it’s best to be prepared and roll with it.

I’ll tell you what I did in Coping-With-Setbacks-Shortages-Bob Davis Podcast 1020.

Rest-In-Colorado-Bob Davis Podcast 1013

Finally At Rest In Colorado

Firstly after a lot of back roads travel I am at rest in Colorado. But it’s hard to catch my breath at ten thousand plus feet. Learn more in Rest-In-Colorado-Bob Davis Podcast 1013.

Busy On The Nomad Road

Secondly and seriously there’s a lot of work when you’re running your business and creating from the road as a nomad.

Love It

Of course I love it all.

Fatigued? Me?

Therefore it’s not always easy to know when I am fatigued.

Fun As Hell

More importantly taking the back roads and avoiding cities from the East Coast to Colorado while fun as hell wears a person out.

Ten Thousand Two Hundred Feet

Consequently I am ten thousand two hundred feet up in the Grand Mesa National Forest.

And it is Grand!

Singing Wind

Moreover if you listen to this podcast you’ll hear the wonderful singing wind up here.

Pine Forest

And we’ll take a walk through a pine forest.

Time To Unwind

In addition we’ll talk a little about how some nomads unwind.

Not always how I unwind!

A Little Different

On the other hand I would humbly submit I am a little different than most.

Covering A Lot Of Ground

That is to say I am covering a huge amount of ground.

Not Supposed To Get Tired

But I don’t expect to get tired.

Salmon And Steak

Finally I love this nomad life. It’s been steaks or salmon on the campfire every night at some beautiful places.

Seeing A United States You Don’t Hear About

Even more I am seeing a United States you don’t hear very much about these days.

Weird Rural America?

To clarify you hear how weird rural America is.

Vibrant And Exciting

But after days of driving between 60 and 35 through small and medium sized towns across this country I see a vibrant and even prosperous landscape.

Perfect Farms and Huge Ranches

From the perfect farms in Vermont and Indiana to the wide swaths of crops extending for miles across Nebraska and Western Colorado.

From Sea To Signing Sea

Literally from sea to shining sea.

Great Summer Travel For Me

In conclusion I wouldn’t change anything about this summer’s travel.

More To Come

And there’s much more to come.

Always Better Driving West

To sum up I always feel better when driving west.

Mountains!

And I love mountains.

Love This Nomad Life

After that I love this nomad life.
