Death Valley Solitude

Above all the lessons you learn on the road is the value of solitude, especially in Death Valley. The trip out of LA to the park and much more in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Questions About My Experience

Certainly people ask questions about what life is like as a nomad.

First of all one of the best questions came from a good friend recently.

What lessons have you learned on the road?

Secondly I had to really think about that one.

Bustle Of The City

Subsequently I spent a week with friends and family in the LA area. Mobile Podcast Command needed service. Between having six or seven people in the house and three kids it was hectic to say the least.

Seeking Solitude

Consequently rather than head up the Pacific Coast I sought the solitude of Death Valley.

Hub Bub Is Good

To clarify I’d just say I think travelers need the normalcy and hub bub of family life every now and then.

So Is Solitude

However I have come to rely on the solitude this life brings. I’ll share why in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Enter Death Valley

What better place to enjoy it than in the vastness of Death Valley.

Desert Meditation

These days the more time I spend in the desert the more I value the whole thing as a sort of meditation.

Rock and Hot Wind

To sum up I don’t need incense and chanting. I just need to see rock, sand and feel the hot wind.

Modern Life?

Moreover it seems to me that much of what we take as the essentials of modern life is pretty much nonsense.

Conversation

Especially conversation.

Mountains and Canyons

For example, gossip, politics, movies and TV shows all pale in contrast to the view into a Death Valley canyon from a mountaintop.

Deep Conversation

Most importantly it makes me wonder why conversation isn’t deeper.

Search For Meaning

How important certain people are to us.

What the meaningful things in life really are.

Why People Seek Out The Wilderness

In addition I used to wonder why so many Van life and nomad people seek out the wilderness.

Now I know.

Learning Something About Solitude

Further at the edge of these mountains and throughout my nomad travel experience I’ve learned something about solitude.

Pleased To Meet You

In conclusion the thing I’ve learned is you meet yourself on the road.

Everyday People

And, above all, some amazing everyday people.

Certainly my time in the desert has convinced me to return as soon as possible.

Mountain View

But what a trip across the San Diego mountains in to the San Diego metro. (Editor’s note: I keep referring to this route as ‘522’ when in fact it’s S22. A county highways through the mountains and well worth the time)

21 Year Old Truck Packs Surprises

However driving a 21 year old truck comes with its own set of surprises.

Major Upgrades

To sum up my truck had a major upgrade at a great place and I couldn’t be happier.

A Mission To Find More Base Camps

Consequently I am on a mission to find so called base camps around the country where I can go for reliable and complete service.

Rest and Recuperation

Even more rest, recuperation and refitting.

Epic Battle Of The Salton Sea Flies

Moreover there’s some great stories in this podcast including my epic battle with flies at the Salton Sea.

It’s Always Something

In conclusion there aren’t too many nomads out here with brand new RV’s that don’t break down or have problems.

It’s always something.

Smoothing The Road

Subsequently having resources across the country can smooth the road considerably.

Go With The Flow

Above all there’s still a need to go with the flow.

All About The Experiences

When we push too hard we miss opportunities to have great experiences.

Enriching Life

Most importantly we miss out on developing great relationships that enrich our lives.

Sometimes in the most unlikely places.

Quit Your Bitching About California

Finally i know there’s a lot of bad press these days about California.

However I still think it is truly the Golden State.

Grand Canyon Southwest Masterpiece

Firstly the Grand Canyon is a Southwest Masterpiece. Learn more in my podcast from the Desert View Campground in Grand-Canyon-Southwest-Masterpeice-Bob Davis Podcast 996.

Blowing Through It

Secondly I think far too many people blow through the Canyon on a one day junket.

Certainly if you only have one day that’s one thing.

Vast Experience

However the Grand Canyon is a vast experience.

And if the traveler can take their time with it, all the better.

Got Lucky

Above all I got lucky. I rolled up to a full campground and managed to get a two day reservation.

Paradise

As a result I was able to spend two nights that felt like a week in paradise.

500 Feet From My Campfire

For example can you imagine having the south rim of the Grand Canyon less than five hundred feet from your campfire?

Moreover this national park just turned one hundred in 2019.

But it was closed in 2020. So I rolled into a campground that’s been closed for about a year.

Desert View Watchtower

During my stay on the south rim I fell in love with the Desert View Watchtower.

Sunsets

In the same vein the gathering of visitors and campers every night for the sunsets was a great experience.

Returning To A Sense Of Nature and Optimism

Most importantly I think we all need time like this to return to a sense of nature and optimism.

For example there’s something about the rock, desert flora and fauna and the trails.

Sense Of Freedom

Meanwhile we’re not feeling the sense of freedom the Grand Canyon evokes, these days.

But we want to.

We need to.

Night Time Walk Through Live…And Some UFO’s

Learn more in my night time walk through the campground in Grand-Canyon-Southwest-Masterpeice-Bob Davis Podcast 996.

Come Alive

Similarly when you’re staying at the park for any length of time you come alive.

Different Vibe

Certainly you realize this is a different feeling from the vibe at the mall, doctors office, and especially in traffic.

To sum up it’s a special place.

Finally thanks to great camp hosts, and everyone working very hard to get the place open and ready for summer.

I’ll go back!
