Turn Off The Comments

First of all if you use FaceBook for friends and family good for you. If you’re a political-social content creator, engagement through comments may not be a great idea these days. Learn more in Turning-Off-FB-Comments-Bob Davis Podcast 869.

Is It Really All About Engagement?

It’s especially relevant that social media experts tell businesses to seek out what they call ‘engagement’. Likes. Shares. Especially comments.

Political Social Content Creators Beware

These are great suggestions for wilderness guide services or seamstresses and hardware stores.

In contrast for content creators in the political and social sphere comments can be a huge problem. Listeners and subscribers know I have long had my issues with social media. Especially my favorite whipping boy FaceBook.

Take Action

After years of struggling with abusive, bullying and ignorant comments on my FaceBook business page I recently took action.

Unique Challenges

Content creators in the political arena have unique challenges when it comes to engagement. Especially on FaceBook. It’s time to talk about doing something about trolls, bullies and ignoramuses.

How’s Your Feeds?

Has suppressing comments on my page had a negative effect on engagement on my website or on my feeds? Learn more in Turning-Off-FB-Comments-Bob Davis Podcast 869.

My Way Or The Highway

Moreover is this a free speech issue? I say when it comes to social media pages, your role as an administrator of your page takes precedence. It’s your way, or the highway.

What Kind Of Engagement Do You Want?

Certainly I talked to advertising and social media experts before making this decision. In the end it comes down to what kind of engagement the creator wants. Do you want clicks to your website or more FaceBook likes.

No Snark Zone

Even more, users seldom bother to read, watch or listen to content. In contrast they don’t seem to have any problem dishing the snark on the content they didn’t read, watch or listen to, anyway.

Lock It Down

What does a creator do? I’ve decided to make commenting on my pages very difficult unless I know you personally.

We Have To Solve This Problem

Seems like it’s necessary to point out – again – that social media has become a fertile ground for manipulating the masses.

New laws and breaking up the social media giants won’t solve this.

We have to.

Night Owls Unite

I am a night person. Always was and will be. These days though it’s getting ridiculous. Staying up really late for a free wheeling talker in Nocturnal-Thoughts-Seasonal Changes-Bob Davis Podcast 867.

Extreme Night Person Here

Anyone who knows me is well aware of my scheduling extremes. Especially relevant are the changes I go through when the seasons change. Suddenly also Minnesotans are beginning to get scratchy throats and head colds. Here it comes.

Schedule Flip and SAD Light

First of all, sometimes I stay up so late I end up coming back around. This is what I call schedule flip. Then use something called a SAD light to reset my body clock. During this process I am in schedule hell. Staying up late and waking up too early.

Texts From Friends

Second as I am in the midst of this sleep schedule nightmare I am getting texts from friends. “Did you cover the Trump Rally?“, they want to know. So, unfortunately I have to address these questions in Nocturnal-Thoughts-Seasonal Changes-Bob Davis Podcast 867.

Dumpster Fire News

Because if I have learned anything traveling across the country and covering primaries and caucuses it is that the media loves a dumpster fire. Certainly Minneapolis did not disappoint, with dueling enthusiastic supporters of the president and protesters.

Traveling And Reporting

Above all it looks to me like the question, “Is It News?” hasn’t occurred to anyone. Certainly nothing wrong with getting a bunch of people together to collect email data and campaign contributions and to have something to post on social media. That goes for both sides in these cartoon political times.

Real News? Funny, Right?

Meanwhile the real news? Not getting addressed and ‘bubbling under’ when it comes to real coverage. The situation with Turkey and the Kurds. Stories about the Repo markets and federal reserve returning to a form of quantitative easing you would think would be unnecessary, what with the booming economy.

Talk It Out

Consequently it’s time to just talk it out. Kind of a transition between some of my heavily researched recent podcasts.

Summer’s Long Goodbye

As a result it’s a long goodbye to a great summer and the difficult transition to fall in this podcast. And considering my sleep schedule please don’t fact check on this one!

How-Much-Corruption-Can-You-Handle?-Bob Davis Podcast 868

How Much Corruption Can You Handle?

Suddenly the word ‘corruption’ is in the news these days. How deep does it go? How much corruption can we handle? Learn more in How-Much-Corruption-Can-You-Handle?-Bob Davis Podcast 868.

Pollyanna Lives Here

Most of us have grown up being taught a Pollyanna history. Back in the day it was justice for all, World War 2 and liberty.

These days our young people learn about civil rights, the environment and how much government can do to help.

Dark History Might Be The Real History

On the other hand there’s a much darker history. Especially when it comes to those who wield government power.

More Corrupt Than We Imagine

Above all I personally think our governments are more corrupt than we imagine. We’ll start by defining  the word corruption.

Two Definitions Of Corruption

Most important the first definition for corruption deals with money being exchanged for political favors and a lack of integrity. The second is what’s valuable to us politically. This definition suggests debasement or ‘corruption’ of original intent.

Corrupt For A Long Time

Above all, it’s no secret corruption in government has been with us a long time in the United States. Unfortunately, it really got its legs after Prohibition.

Epic Corruption Still With Us

In How-Much-Corruption-Can-You-Handle?-Bob Davis Podcast 868 I detail US Government corruption dating back to the Articles of Confederation. In conclusion, after prohibition, the story becomes an epic. And it still is. Here’s a link to Gus Russo’s books detailing the years of political corruption in the US as the direct result of prohibition. Critics say Russo’s analysis is guilt by association but I wonder if it’s more than that. Much more.

Finally Partisans beware, my reading of history suggests corruption, legal and illegal, doesn’t have a party preference.

Senator Elizabeth Warren says she’ll tackle corruption if elected. I wouldn’t hold my breath.

[Editor’s Note: This podcast is incorrectly numbered 868. Yes I know. Haven’t done 867 yet. That’s on the way.)
