Montana-Yellowstone-Idaho-Bob Davis Podcast 1145

Montana Yellowstone Idaho

Firstly I’m on another big trip from Wisconsin through to Montana, Yellowstone and Idaho. Ultimately I’ll be pulling into Quartzsite, Arizona earlier than planned. But this is a great route south. Details in Montana-Yellowstone-Idaho-Bob Davis Podcast 1145.

Custer National Battlefield Monument

Secondly my Montana visit was punctuated with a visit to the Custer National Battlefield Monument. For details on that experience check out my YouTube channel here.

Soul Happy

Above all when I am traveling my soul is happy.

Juices Flowing

That is to say when the wheels are turning the creative juices are flowing.

Much To See

Also there are always amazing things to see.

Observations

Another key point is my observations on what I have experienced on the trip so far.

Old Story From Yellowstone

Certainly a ‘pass-through’ this year was a lot different from a old story about pushing a VW Bug through the park in the middle of the night.

This experience differed markedly from the VW experience so many years go.

What’s With The Bison?

For one thing people these days seem to be mad to get through the park so they can get pictures of Bison.

I’ve witnessed behavior in the same fashion at the Grand Canyon.

Jewels

As much as it is important to celebrate the fact that we Americans have these wilderness jewels to marvel over…

On the negative side I’m not sure people are actually experiencing these parks.

Selfies

They are too busy taking selfies.

Camping Booked

On the other hand I am glad the park was too busy for camping.

Pass Through

Because a pass through was just what the doctor ordered at this point in the trip.

Land Of Sky Blue Waters

Because I camped all summer as I like to say on the shores of a lake in the ‘Land of Sky Blue Waters’…

After that I am not so keen to camp.

Truck Stops

All in all truck stops are my go to these days.

Recording In Flying J’s Lot

Basically it’s pretty hard to miss in this podcast since I recorded in a Flying J Parking Lot.

Oil Cheaper

Overall oil is getting cheaper…

Winter Travel

Therefore the winter looks promising for more travel and adventure.

By all means getting down to Quartzite is my priority…

115 Degrees

But when I last checked the weather it was 115 degrees in the desert out there.

By all means the subject for my next podcast.

State-Of-The-Summer-2024-Bob Davis Podcast 1143

State Of The Summer 2024

Firstly for this State of The Summer 2024 Report I don’t like to draw attention to negatives. But a whole month has gone by with no podcast!  Let’s talk about it in State-Of-The-Summer-2024-Bob Davis Podcast 1143.

Nothing To Say?

Secondly much of my radio silence over the past few weeks is due to the fact that I have nothing to say.

With this is mind is it writer’s block?

Or am I lost in summer’s bliss?

Busy Summer

Certainly it has been a busy summer.

Of course a lot of socializing on the Wisconsin Shore.

Too Much Talking

What’s more a lot of talking.

Too much talking.

To be tired of talking is altogether strange for me.

But there it is.

On A Path

Balanced against canoe rides on the still lake and dinners around the campfire there’s a lower octave.

Accordingly we seem to be a on path.

With this in mind there doesn’t seem to be much more to say about it.

Won’t Chase Likes and Shares

In addition I don’t want to be the kind of content creator who mines his life and everyone in it to chase likes and shares.

Saving Some Of This Summer For Myself

Moreover there are some experiences I save just for myself.

The Lake’s First Signs Of Fall

After that as I watch the lake I feel the first signs of fall.

Time To Go

All things considered it’s time to go.

In short it won’t be long til I am back on the road.

Decisions About Fall Travel

All in all I’ve made two decisions about this fall and winter.

To that end which way to head and whether to camp alone this winter wherever I end up.

Crackling Summer

Summing up it’s been a summer crackling with observations, friends, food and some adventure…

No sooner than I have discovered I am exhausted from all of this…

Ready To Travel

And preparing to travel again.

#Nomadlife-Lessons-Part One-Bob Davis Podcast 1139

#Nomadlife Lessons Part One

Altogether after many years as a nomad it’s time to share some lessons in #Nomadlife-Lessons-Part One-Bob Davis Podcast 1139.

With this purpose in mind I set out to cram all the lessons into one podcast.

But it turns out I have a lot of content to share when it comes to nomad lessons.

State Of Mind

In #Nomadlife-Lessons-Part One-Bob Davis Podcast 1139 I begin with our state of mind when we first test the nomad waters.

Accordingly there’s some discussion about economic conditions these days.

Conditions Before You Go

That is to say conditions which might drive people out on the road and into #Nomadlife.

Firstly there is the fact that housing has not decreased in price despite the reduction of inflation.

Triggers

Even more most working people have thirty to forty percent less buying power than they did in 2019.

Certainly part of the reason I got rid of just about everything I owned was the increasing price of rent.

And the overbearing nature of efforts to contain the pandemic.

After that being on the road meant being free.

No More Free Money

In addition back in 2020 there were a number of pandemic relief funds and incentives which helped many to adopt the nomad lifestyle.

All of the sudden those measures are no longer available…

Back To Work Peasant

Significantly as well these days more businesses are exhorting workers to return to the office.

So I think the bloom might be off the rose slightly when it comes to hitting the road…

On the other hand this reality can also be a trigger for chucking the nine to five suburban lifestyle.

Especially when you consider some commutes are now seventy minutes long.

Romance Is Still Strong

However that does not diminish the romance of this alternative lifestyle.

Revenue Stream

Therefore these days one has to have some kind of revenue stream to do this.

Obviously retirees have savings, pensions and social security.

Contrarily younger people might not have those resources.

And you don’t want to hurt your own savings or future retirement.

Temporary Jobs

In view of this fact I spend a little time sharing what I know about some of the temporary jobs available ‘out there’.

Forget YouTube

On the negative side many future nomads imagine themselves making bank from their YouTube channel.

Of course if you have experience creating content that’s one thing…

But chances are a YouTube channel or Instagram is not going to foot the bill for a nomad life.

Most Nomad Content Include Lists

Finally I see a lot of content on line about ‘the three things you have to do before becoming a nomad’ or ‘the sixteen things you need’ and so on.

Certainly some of this is good advice…

Adventure

Equally important though, is the sense of adventure that comes from not knowing too much about something before you do it.

Enlightenment

And realizing you’re getting a lot out of something as you do it.

Detail

I’ll give you a little more content in detail about what this experience is like in the first of these two #nomadlife lessons podcasts.

No Regrets

In conclusion unlike many of the posts these days decrying the lifestyle I have not regretted doing this for one day.
