Minneapolis Police Shooting Exposes Training Questions-Podcast 650

Another officer involved shooting. Another tragedy. More media coverage of excessive force by police. This time it’s Minneapolis on the hot seat. We’ll talk about it in Minneapolis Police Shooting Exposes Training Questions-Podcast 650.

R. Steven Rogers, a firearms instructor with Pistolcraft, joins Bob Davis. Rogers believes training is the key in the mystery of why officers may be prone to reaching for firearms.

Another Officer Involved Shooting

Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor shot and killed Justine Ruszczyk Saturday Night July 15th, 2017. The 40 year old South Minneapolis woman had called 911 to report a disturbance in the alley behind her home.

Details are sketchy so far, since the officer isn’t talking. Speculation is running rampant. Rogers asks some questions about the level of training for officer Noor and police as a whole in Minneapolis Police Shooting Exposes Training Questions-Podcast 650.

More Questions About City Management

Especially relevant is the question of how Minneapolis manages police. Is there too much involvement in police management by Mayor Betsy Hodges? There have been questions about police coverage in the city’s poorer neighborhoods for years. With reports of more crime in entertainment districts, now, suddenly, come questions of enough whether there are enough police, whether they are experienced enough and how they are trained. In Minneapolis Police Shooting Exposes Training Questions-Podcast 650.

Higher Training Standards May Be Key

Despite assertions that Minnesota ranks high in standards for police training, Rogers says the standard may not be high enough. He questions whether officers are getting enough training in dealing with the difficult situations they encounter, and thus revert to their firearms. Podcast 124

The stand off at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada is over, a Blood Moon, and trouble in Ukraine. Here in the Twin Cities, the Met Council is starting to look like the Bureau of Land Management as they pull out all the stops to smooth over progressive officials in Minneapolis proper, in an attempt to ram a train down the throats of the rich people of the Kenwood, Cedar and Lake of the Isles neighborhoods. Oh the jobs! The extra development! The trolley Cars! (Sounds like a children’s book, doesn’t it). Sounds like legal bribery to me. Will newly minted Mayor Hodges fall for it? And if she does, how far will her political future go when the lakes are drained from a tunnel project gone wrong? Plus President Obama’s taxes (He is actually legally avoiding the full tax for his income bracket), and more. Get the top stories to get your week started right. Sponsored by PlanVision. Podcast 117

Podcast 117 gets you started on the last day of March 2014, and ready for the first week of April. A shout out to the Constitution Party of Minnesota, and why I won’t be podcasting my speech there this weekend. There’s a big controversy between the North Metro Tea Party and candidate for the Republican endorsement for the US Senate in 2014, Mike McFadden. Can moderates lead Republicans to victory if they force the nomination of yet another Bush in 2016? Will mushy moderates inevitably give way to ‘radical’ libertarian ideas espoused by leaders like Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Scott Walker? And why are we talking about the presidential race in 2016 when there is a perfectly pivotal election for the House of Representatives, Senate, state houses and governor’s mansions in 2014? Is Democracy dying in America? Plus updates on MH370 and the Ukraine, Obama’s foreign policy, MSNBC’s sinking ratings and a special note on the Minneapolis South West Metro Light Rail controversy.
