Christmas 2017-New Year’s 2018-Getting Through-Road Ahead-Podcast 684

That time of year again. Christmas and Holiday pressure. End of Year Themes. Predictions. Maybe the best thing to do is to kick back and wait it out. In Christmas 2017-New Year’s 2018-Getting Through-Road Ahead-Podcast 684.

It’s Christmas Season Already?

Hard to believe we’re nearing the end of another year. Just ahead of the big slow down between Christmas and New Year’s every year. The pressure is on though. Christmas 2017-New Year’s 2018-Getting Through-Road Ahead-Podcast 684 is an opportunity to give ourselves permission to take a slow down.

Pressure Time Doesn’t Have To Be Pressure Time

These days with people wanting to visit, pressures of blended and non blended families and the normal pressures of life it can get pretty hectic. Moreover, many of us try to pack so many tasks into the mix, it feels like four months of living in about thirty days or less, between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

As a Guy This Is How I Roll

How do some people get through it. My excuse is, I’m a guy. I don’t do much aside from planning my yearly Chinese dinner out on Christmas Day, which few in the family want to come to. It’s a nice opportunity to hang with the younger generation including my son and my nephews, escaping what might termed lightly as ‘the madness’.

Breathe

Especially relevant is the sudden exhortation at the yoga studio for people to ‘take a breath’ and ‘slow down’. Amen to that! What do I want? Time. Time to do nothing. Back in the day, the people out on the plains mended their tools, drank egg coffee and pored over the seed and Sears catalogs to plan what they were going to plant, grow and hopefully harvest in the next year. Take a slow down with me in Christmas 2017-New Year’s 2018-Getting Through-Road Ahead-Podcast 684.

Be A Kid

Then there are the endless predictions and prognostications from a media hell-bent-for-leather to predict the future. What’s going to happen. What happened last year, as though each year has earthshaking developments that will never be forgotten. No time to enjoy the present like we used to when we were kids.

Take Time Off If You Can

Especially relevant for me are the memories of trips to Florida when I was a kid. Getting up at 4AM, climbing into the way-back of the wagon. We couldn’t wait for the moment when you could feel the warmth against the windows. Listening to this podcast, you may find yourself in a reverie of your own memories when Christmas was a simpler time.

It’s Just The Presidency. Live from Minneapolis and Saint Paul International Airport, Lindberg Terminal, since this is where almost everyone will be at some point during the Holiday season. As family and friends get together for Christmas and The New Year’s, conversations about the Presidential Race and politics will inevitably come up. Some will be new discussions, others will be continuations of discussions began during Thanksgiving. As we walk and talk through the airport, we discuss the idea that there has been a predominant and early focus on the personalities for the presidential race, and with early primaries coming up starting February 1st, and running through next summer, that focus will only increase. With all this presidential coverage it seems like we have completely forgotten 435 house members will be chosen, a third of the US Senate and a host of local, state representatives will be elected, as well as governors in some states. How many of us will be talking about elections for congress, state houses, and governor’s this year, rather than the latest gaffe by some over-televised and exhausted candidate, somewhere in Iowa, or New Hampshire or South Carolina? We’re supposed to have a balanced government in the United States, with sovereignty resting with the people, but it seems more and more as though we rely on one person as the Imperial President to administer the largest and most expensive federal government in the world, with now huge responsibilities. What is the history of ‘mixed’ or ‘balanced’ government. How can a system of checks and balances work if all we talk about are the personalities running for just one part of our balanced government; the executive? What did the founders think of the presidency? Why are there a whole list of enumerated powers in the US Constitution for Congress, the states and a Bill of Rights for the people, and few for the President? What happened in our history to make our presidency so powerful, and is this a good thing? How do we undo it? This is the conversation and the question families and friends should be having this year, heading into 2016’s election. However, people just seem to want a personality to ‘fix’ things, they don’t want to be bothered with details. Maybe this is why the founders also checked the people with an electoral college and Senate appointed by state legislatures and governors. If we’re not going to do our duty as citizens, maybe we need to go back to the old ways. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing and Heating of Saint Paul and X Government Trucks. Christmas 2014! Live from the mall for the last few hours of Christmas shopping. Getting through the shortest days of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, celebrating the return of the light. This has been a weird holiday season, news wise. With the NYPD police/protester story, and the recent police involved shooting in the Saint Louis Metro, as well as the Sony Hack continuing story the News Watch Never Stops at the Bob Davis Podcasts. So, in a soft way, updating you for Christmas Day, 2014. As protests and police involved shootings continue to happen and people fire off uninformed and ignorant missives to each other on social media, this one may just have to run its course. On the Sony front, the FBI says North Korea did it. Does the FBI have enough evidence to say North Korea is responsible? There will be time to get back down in it, after Christmas. Aside from the lurid stories, the meatiest story this week has been the 3rd quarter economic numbers that have the media, and the President crowing ‘boom’. Is it? The new 5% GDP numbers are revisions, but the media doesn’t explain why US Economic numbers are revised at least three times, and then revised annually. Now the media is rolling every anecdotal experience into the numbers as ‘proof’ the ‘US is back!’. In this podcast, we’ll look a little deeper into those numbers to help you decide what they mean, and inform your decision on whether you think things are ‘booming’, economically speaking. Denver is experiencing an increase in its homeless population. The theory is, they are coming for legal pot. Watch out for the new advice on the ‘homeless’. When you see a street person you’re supposed to engage with them, in order to see them as human beings. This is a dangerous course of action, and really irresponsible, especially if you have small children with you. We all feel bad for those less fortunate, but some of them are dealing from a very challenged perspective, and you don’t know what they’ll do at any moment. Stay clear for your own safety. You’ve heard of the Obama Phone? Now they want to give people free broad band internet access. Yep. The Internet is a human right, which means the rest of us should pay for it, with additional charges on our phone bills, so people less fortunate can have free Internet. Finally, Miley Cyrus is banned from the Shriver/Kennedy Christmas Celebration in Massachusetts. Cyrus is dating Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son Patrick, and momma doesn’t like her. (Editor’s Note: Aside from the fact that Cyrus probably has more money than the Kennedy’s, and if she doesn’t she will, at least she works, and doesn’t just lay about lending her name to every left wing cause that comes down the pike. Miley, you’re better off!) Sponsored by Autonomous Cad
