Algorithm-Slaves-Bob Davis Podcast 1089

Algorithm Slaves

Firstly these days content creators seem intent on following their audiences. Learn more in Algorithm-Slaves-Bob Davis Podcast 1089..

Relevance

Secondly that is to say relevance for a creator is more and more about what the audience wants.

Certainly not what the artist or creator wants.

And today’s algorithms often determine the audience.

What Is Creating?

But what if creating is about leading the audience?

To clarify sooner or later creators have to bite the hands that feed them.

Dangers Of A Narrow Audience

Or face an increasingly narrow audience although it may be increasing in size.

Even more when likes and shares and subscriptions become the order of the day why not have AI do everything?

Role Of The Artist

In short what is the role of the human artist?

And what is the process of creativity?

Finally it’s my perception algorithm slaves build silos of opinion which actually limit objective discussion.

In addition what does one learn if they stay in that same silo forever?

Therefore it’s easy to see why many people think on the same tracks and perform in the same ways, in the end.

Grow

As a result creators do not grow.

Imprisoned By An Audience

Likewise I have certainly had my struggles being imprisoned by an audience, back in the day.

It’s About Control

However I’m grateful to have arrived at a place where the audience and the ‘shoulds’ don’t control what I do.

Didn’t Want To Talk About This

In Algorithm-Slaves-Bob Davis Podcast 1089 I take on a subject I really didn’t want to talk about.

Craven

On the other hand the craven nature of creators on almost every subject suggests it’s time to talk about this.

Audience Dictators

Finally listeners should not be required to dictate content.

Or even asked about it.

Yet you see and hear this all the time.

Likes and Shares

Subsequently likes and shares, and subs, define the future for those who ‘influence’ society as a whole.

Or so they think.

Thus Algorithm-Slaves-Bob Davis Podcast 1089.

Breaking Out

In conclusion content creators might consider breaking out of the self imposed tyranny.

Who Knows Best

In short when it comes to the very human nature of creating, the audience doesn’t always know best.

And neither does the algorithm.

Big Business and Hollywood Discovers Podcasting

The big guys are getting into podcasting these days. That means independent voices are more important than ever. Learn more in Independent-Podcasting-Necessary-Voices-Bob Davis Podcast 837.

Big Political Operators Too

Especially relevant are big political operators.

Independent Voices

Consequently supporting independent voices is more important than ever.

Being Independent Means We Make Our Own Decisions

What I have learned working for broadcast companies is especially relevant to creative people who are often the trail blazers and trendsetters. First of all, as independent voices we make our own decisions about our content.

Being On A Big Platform Might Mean More Control Of What You Do

Certainly being on a big platform is great for more feeds. Above all though, what happens when you go against the grain? I’ll tell you in Independent-Podcasting-Necessary-Voices-Bob Davis Podcast 837.

Free Speech

Everyone has a right to produce content their way. That includes business, political operatives and entities like public radio.

Happy To Be On Our Own

Similarly independent voices are necessary. I’m talking about those of us out here on our own. Today’s political climate is most noteworthy in this discussion.

Huge Opportunity For Independent Creators

Back in the day blogging was responsible for some of the most objective and powerful reporting. I think a similar opportunity exists today when it comes to podcasts.

Your Favorite Podcast Might Be Owned By The Mercers

Finally if every platform is owned by big business, political operatives, radio companies, Hollywood and institutions like public radio and TV it implies control of information and opinions, by definition.

Creating Our Own Content Answering To No One

So here’s to us independent content creators. We podcasters and YouTubers writing and producing our own content, trying to monetize our efforts, and saying what we think. No matter what.

Celebrating Bob Davis Podcast 800-Lessons Learned-Future Plans

These days when it comes to podcasting milestones should be marked. My first podcast was in 2009. It’s most noteworthy that I have supported myself with a single podcast since 2013. Learn more in Celebrating Bob Davis Podcast 800-Lessons Learned-Future Plans.

Eight Hundred Podcasts

First of all after eight hundred podcasts I’ve done just about every crazy idea I can think of. I have never had a problem creating content or finding things to talk about. It is a creative challenge to come up with fresh ideas and venues for each podcast. Something I take very seriously. Here’s the Dillinger Podcast. And, here’s the Bonnie and Clyde Podcast.

Content Creators Business Challenge

Especially relevant for podcasters is the business challenge we face as independent content creators. Sure, if you’re famous there’s plenty of cash and help to put up a successful podcast.

Hardscrabble Media

In contrast the people close to my heart are the independent creators. I like to think of us as the hardscrabble farmers of the media ecosystem. Find out how it is for us in Celebrating Bob Davis Podcast 800-Lessons Learned-Future Plans.

Blog Page For Podcasts

Finally there have been a lot of changes at the Bob Davis Podcasts since the first podcast. The blog page is a full strength resource with blogs and links to my research for every podcast. Moreover I have committed myself to refusing to endorse, or fight for a point of view when it comes to politics.

No Shouting

In conclusion I find the social implications of policy far more interesting than joining the crowd shouting at listeners and subscribers about what they should believe and what they ‘should’ do. Do whatever you want. Believe what you will and more power to you!

Future Fun

2019 and 2020 will be big years for this podcast. Once I reach business goals the fun begins on the road. More about that later. Thanks to all of you for your support, subscriptions, and listening and especially sponsorships.

You will never know how much I appreciate it.
