Freedom-Summer-2021-Wisconsin-Bob Davis Podcast 1004

Freedom Summer 2021 Wisconsin

Most importantly Freedom Summer 2021 Wisconsin is about relaxation. I am live in this podcast lakeside and that is what’s in store in Freedom-Summer-2021-Wisconsin-Bob Davis Podcast 1004.

By The Lake

Sun down.

Fireworks Family and Fun

A front row seat to a world class fireworks display.

Restrictions Fade

Above all as the painful memories of Covid-19 restrictions fade it’s time to let go. For the time being.

Time To Let Go

Even more lots of people are letting go on lakes all over Wisconsin.

Experience and Memories

Firstly this gives me a chance to talk about the layers of experience and memories the last nine months of nomad life have brought.

Where To Next

Secondly an opportunity to think out loud on where to go next.

It’s Hot!

And it’s hot. I like that.

Transition Year For Us All

Certainly it has been a transition year for the Bob Davis Podcasts.

No More Politics

For instance the last political event I will cover was the Iowa Caucuses in February of this year.

All Over The United States

Subsequently I have literally been all over the United States.

To clarify I don’t remember every little route and place I’ve been.

As a result I often have to consult my maps and trip plans.

Layers of Memories and Feelings

However for Freedom-Summer-2021-Wisconsin-Bob Davis Podcast 1004 I choose to talk about how the memories of where I’ve been “layer” in.

Like a dream

For example, the Eastern Sierras. Or the undulating fields of still green wheat in Washington State and Idaho. The grasslands of North Dakota. The lonely back roads of South Dakota or the Oregon beaches.

Experience Is The Best Teacher

In addition the lessons I’ve learned from Wal Mart and Truck Stop parking lots to deserted National Forest Campgrounds.

All of it ‘layered’ in.

How Long Will You Do This Nomad Thing?

To sum up people keep asking me how long I’ll do the nomad thing.

Peeling An Onion

In short it’s like peeling an onion. Each layer is more and more interesting.

Zen Of Travel Is The Best

Above all feeling the zen of travel and adventure is amazing and so great, I can’t wait to get back out there.

Back Roads Rule

In conclusion, people still wonder whether I am lonely, scared, or tired of the back roads.

The True Glory Of America

But on this fourth of July I’d say the nomad way is the best way to discover this country in all it’s true glory.

Master-Trekker-Dave Kiel-Bob Davis Podcast 1001

Master Trekker Dave ‘Glider’ Kiel

Above all Dave Kiel is more than a Master Trekker. Fifty years in the Sierras is a lot of experience. Find out why in Master-Trekker-Dave Kiel-Bob Davis Podcast 1001.

Rare Interview

Most importantly The Bob Davis Podcasts is not about interviews.

A Great Story And The Personality To Tell It

But every now and then I encounter someone with a story and the personality to tell it.

Eastern Sierra Story From A Master Trekker’s Perspective

Firstly I met Dave in the Eastern Sierras at a desert campsite.

Secondly once Dave and I started talking I grabbed my recorder.

A Life In These Mountains

Certainly spending most of your life in these mountains is worth a conversation.

Pacific Crest and John Muir

Even more hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and the John Muir more than once should cause any trekker to sit up and take notice.

More Than Trekking

However we talk about more than hiking or trekking.

Car Culture

For example Dave feels strongly about today’s ‘car culture’ and puts himself to the test by going nomad, without a car. Learn more in Master-Trekker-Dave Kiel-Bob Davis Podcast 1001.

Great Western Loop With No Car

That is to say Dave “Glider” Kiel is in the process of a great western loop trek using public transportation, the kindness of friends and his thumb.

Today’s Selfie Culture

In addition we talk about today’s trekkers and their quest make the fastest time hiking trails or grab a selfie and go home.

Getting Into Nature and Learning Skills

On the other hand Dave says, people want to get into nature. They want to see the sights and learn outdoor skills.

Decades On The Trail

In the same vein this is a person who possesses skills honed from decades on the trails and in the Sierras.

The Story

How he got where he is is a big part of the story.

Certainly Dave owns a vehicle. A very nice ‘little custom built camper’.

However he’s going car free on this thousands of mile trek to make a point.

Attached To The Desert

To sum up I love the west. Especially the desert. And these mountains are incredible.

Wide Range Of Experiences

Finally I certainly realize there’s a wide range of experiences you can have out here.

Learning

Learning something from someone who’s been part of this landscape for at least fifty years is one of them.

(Editor’s Note: In This podcast I refer to Dave as Dave GILDER Kiel. His nickname is in fact GLIDER. Sorry about that Dave! To find out how he got his name visit his blog by following the links above.)

Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999

Death Valley Solitude

Above all the lessons you learn on the road is the value of solitude, especially in Death Valley. The trip out of LA to the park and much more in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Questions About My Experience

Certainly people ask questions about what life is like as a nomad.

First of all one of the best questions came from a good friend recently.

What lessons have you learned on the road?

Secondly I had to really think about that one.

Bustle Of The City

Subsequently I spent a week with friends and family in the LA area. Mobile Podcast Command needed service. Between having six or seven people in the house and three kids it was hectic to say the least.

Seeking Solitude

Consequently rather than head up the Pacific Coast I sought the solitude of Death Valley.

Hub Bub Is Good

To clarify I’d just say I think travelers need the normalcy and hub bub of family life every now and then.

So Is Solitude

However I have come to rely on the solitude this life brings. I’ll share why in Death-Valley-Solitude-Heaven-Bob Davis Podcast 999.

Enter Death Valley

What better place to enjoy it than in the vastness of Death Valley.

Desert Meditation

These days the more time I spend in the desert the more I value the whole thing as a sort of meditation.

Rock and Hot Wind

To sum up I don’t need incense and chanting. I just need to see rock, sand and feel the hot wind.

Modern Life?

Moreover it seems to me that much of what we take as the essentials of modern life is pretty much nonsense.

Conversation

Especially conversation.

Mountains and Canyons

For example, gossip, politics, movies and TV shows all pale in contrast to the view into a Death Valley canyon from a mountaintop.

Deep Conversation

Most importantly it makes me wonder why conversation isn’t deeper.

Search For Meaning

How important certain people are to us.

What the meaningful things in life really are.

Why People Seek Out The Wilderness

In addition I used to wonder why so many Van life and nomad people seek out the wilderness.

Now I know.

Learning Something About Solitude

Further at the edge of these mountains and throughout my nomad travel experience I’ve learned something about solitude.

Pleased To Meet You

In conclusion the thing I’ve learned is you meet yourself on the road.

Everyday People

And, above all, some amazing everyday people.
