Go-East-Young-Man-Bob Davis Podcast 1005

Go East Young Man

Go East Young Man. Certainly I love the west. But I’ve never been to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Ride along with me in Go-East-Young-Man-Bob Davis Podcast 1005.

Summer Travel

Firstly summer is the time to make this trip.

No Drought Here

Secondly we’re hearing a lot of drought talk because of the situation out west.

Lush Fields

However the fields through central Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and New York are lush.

Small Town Love

Meanwhile all along Route 2, US 6 and US 20 are some amazing small towns and places of interest.

History

Now what is interesting to me is unique.

Certainly history.

Industrial Revolution In Reverse

Therefore I am subtitling this podcast, “The Industrial Revolution Tour In Reverse”.

In other words the Industrial Revolution began in Rhode Island in the late 1700’s.

Then spread west.

Because I am headed east across America’s Industrial Heartland it’s the Industrial Revolution…in reverse!

Rust Belt?

In short they used to call this part of the country The Rust Belt. It’s not descriptive these days.

Help Wanted

These days there help wanted signs are everywhere through Indiana and Ohio.

Back Roads Rule

Even more back roads travel allows the nomad to get granular.

US and State Two Lane Highways

To clarify on these state and US Highways you see details you’d never see on the Interstates.

Mennonites On Bicycles

For example Mennonites on bicycles.

Not a band name.

A real thing.

Twentieth Century Story

Most importantly I get a sense of the development all across this area in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s.

Firstly the farmers. Secondly the railroads. Finally the development of these small towns across northern tier.

As a result some of those towns became the big towns that wrote the twentieth century story.

Nomad Vibe

Above all this is one of the big reasons I became a nomad.

And why I love back roads.

Drive and Talk

To sum up sometimes the best thing is to drive and talk.

In conclusion that’s what Go-East-Young-Man-Bob Davis Podcast 1005 is all about.

Road Trip!

I’ve been on a lot of road trips with friends and they have always gotten a huge kick out of my observations.

So climb in and let’s go.

Depth Of Nomad Experience

Above all time to reflect on the depth of this nomad experience in Quartzsite-Arizona-Mojave-California-Bob Davis Podcast 997.

Personal and Real

Firstly I’ve focused on keeping these podcasts personal and real.

Experience

Secondly it’s all about my nomad journey and experience.

Quartzsite

Certainly there’s something special about the moon like Bureau Of Land Management site at Quartzsite.

Nomadland

Maybe that’s why it was the setting for the Oscar winning movie Nomadland.

Special To Me

In addition it’s special to me.

Find out why in Quartzsite-Arizona-Mojave-California-Bob Davis Podcast 997.

Began My Journey Here

In short I had only felt I had begun my journey back in January, here in Quartzsite.

Relaunch

Therefore being back here adds emphasis to the idea of relaunching these travel nomad podcasts.

California

Moreover moving on to California from the Western edge of Arizona feels great.

Renewed Sense of Freedom And Wonder

That is to say my sense of freedom and wonder is renewed.

Mojave National Preserve

Most importantly this podcast is live from Quartzsite and from a beautiful site up in the Mojave National Preserve.

New Discoveries

In the same vein how I got here and new discoveries are always on the docket.

However these aren’t really travelogue podcasts.

A Deeper Sense of Thinking

For instance one of my goals is to give listeners and subscribers a sense of how a nomad’s thinking changes over time.

Sense of Time

To clarify something happens with our sense of time when we travel.

New Schedules

Likewise as a lifelong night owl I have been surprised by my early to bed, early to rise travel schedule.

Creature Comforts

And creature comforts on the road are so simple they’re a surprise to find.

Review and Reflection

So as this whole project starts anew it’s time for review and reflection.

Mojave

To sum up no better place for that than up in the Providence Mountains of California.

Euphoria To Frustration

Finally life as a nomad can euphoric one minute and frustrating in the next.

Likewise in normal life.

Nomadland Reaction and Review

Above all I am not a movie critic but I am a nomad and I did see the movie Nomadland, so here’s my reaction and review. Learn more by listening to Nomadland-Reaction-Review-Bob Davis Podcast 992.

Have You Seen It?

In addition my listeners want to know if I’ve seen Nomadland.

Not An Action Movie

First of all we’re drowning in an ocean of super action hero movies.

It’s Real And That’s Why It’s Great

Therefore it’s easy to see why Nomadland is winning so many awards.

Did I Say Real?

Firstly this is a movie about a very real topic.

American Workers Crisis

Companies that disappear. Workers who are thrown away and forgotten.

Struggles

Secondly some people struggle with grief, loss and other issues.

Forced Into Nomad Life or Freedom?

Consequently I can be forgiven for thinking the main character in Nomadland is ‘forced’ into life as a nomad.

However not everyone agrees with my assessment.

How Do You Do it?

In addition I often get questions from people about “how I do it”.

Cue The Raised Eyebrows from Dad

Furthermore Nomadland will only intensify raised eyebrows and questions of concern.

Certainly the movie got that right.

Life With No Tether

I’ve already discussed life with no tether.

Not Instagram

In short let’s just say Nomadland isn’t the movie version of the Instagram Van Life feed.

To sum up that is why it’s a great movie.

Real Nomads

Most of the people in Nomadland are real nomads.

Life Doesn’t Pack Neatly Into A Box

And there are elements about their lives and experiences that aren’t neatly wrapped up in a box

We Don’t All Have Brand New Sprinter Vans

Or summed up in that Instagram pic of that young sun kissed blonde woman and her boyfriend taking a shower on the back of their one hundred thousand dollar Sprinter Van.

Bureau Of Land Management Camping Isn’t Yellowstone

Even more let’s not forget the golden sunset on gorgeous beaches and fantastic vegan meal spreads.

Sense Of Freedom

But the movie gets the sense of freedom right.

Your Experience May Vary

In conclusion Nomadland is not every nomad’s experience.

My truck is heated.

Pan frying steaks is my specialty. Obviously I eat meat. Not soup out of a can.

I don’t use a bucket.

This nomad gets along just fine in truck stops.

Diesel #2 is pretty awesome fuel.

A New Trend

Finally mobile workers and a nomad lifestyle may be the coming thing for many reasons.

If you’re considering it don’t let the movie scare you away.
