Las Vegas-Joshua Tree-Bob Davis Podcast 1147

Las Vegas To Joshua Tree

Firstly Las Vegas-Joshua Tree-Bob Davis Podcast 1147 is about a computer meltdown forcing the nomad back on the road.

Secondly I am not mad about it.

Thinking About More Travel

Most importantly I have been thinking about traveling more lately.

Roll With The Punches

Altogether sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.

Water and PC’s Don’t Mix

Although this may be true when you spill water on your PC unexpectedly it stirs the pot to say the least.

But if we’re speaking the truth…

Done With Quartzsite For Now

With this in mind I was about done with Quartzsite Arizona anyway.

YouTube

Certainly I had just finished a YouTube video about how we can’t predict the future.

Changes In Mecca

And in that video I talked a little about how the experience in the so called nomad Mecca has changed over the past few years.

New Adventure

Therefore I have been looking for a new adventure.

Rather than just sit there and be unhappy I took the opportunity to do something new.

As much as I love my friends in Quartzsite during the winter months.

Bloom Is Off The Rose

While this may be true the bloom is off the rose.

Heading North To Las Vegas

Even though goodbyes are difficult it was great to get back on 95 and head up to Havasu City, Searchlight Nevada and ultimately Las Vegas.

Afterward while I am not a gambler and have not been a fan of Las Vegas lately…

Surprisingly Easy

Navigating to Town Square Mall and the Apple Store was surprisingly easy.

New Mac

Straightaway I was negotiating for new Mac Pro.

All in all this is an opportunity to finally have the IT juice to do some video editing as well as improved quality for the podcast.

Learning Curve

However there will be a bit of a learning curve since I can’t access all the data on the old Mac Pro currently.

And you have to learn all new ins and outs of updated software, so no music in this podcast.

Solving Problems

At any rate the thing about problems is you get to solve them.

Searchlight To I-40

Lastly coming back the way I came through Searchlight I happened upon on of my reference points in my travels.

Truck Stop Time

In other words a cluster of truck stops at I-40 and 95.

Coupled with a new digital lease on life I had a chance to chill out to the sound of semis and reset my plans.

In conclusion some of these plans are discussed in this podcast.

More About This Next Podcast

But I’ll talk more about the journey in my next podcast to celebrate four years as a nomad full time and start out the fifth year of travel.

Politics as Sport. Millions of people watched the most recent Republican debate on CNBC this week, and everyone is talking about how the candidates ‘really gave it to the moderators’. The moderators had it coming, but was this a surprise? Do you mean say the media is biased? Really? How shocking if true, right? Meanwhile this week a US Destroyer sailed past man-made islands claimed by China provoking quite a response. While the US should challenge Chinese ‘ownership’ of these islands this is just the kind of incident that creates foreign policy crises seemingly ‘out of nowhere’. To add insult to injury House Republicans this week voted to increase federal spending by 50 billion dollars in 2016 and something like 30 billion in 2017. (Editor’s Note: Republicans were shocked and dismayed in the 1970’s when President Carter’s budget deficit hit 45 billion.) Talk about the GOP betrayal of their voters? No, let’s talk about media bias, again. Republican and Democrat candidates running for their party’s nomination to run for president – technically not running for president yet – continue to play to the biases and fears of their most vociferous supporters, as part of a sick and dangerous symbiosis between media, pollsters, and politicians. People watch to see who will be ‘thrown off the island last’. Indeed, politics is being covered not as sports as covered, but is in fact a sport in itself. Why not talk about video games and fantasy football at the debates? The election is already a fantasy football league or video game, or reality TV show, anyway. With most people getting their news in shards from social media, google searches, You Tube and other sources like this, the story about three deep space objects hiding behind the moon is perceived with the same credibility as the story of US Special Forces and Navy Helicopters being deployed to Syria, where they may be as likely to get into combat with Russians and Chinese troops as they are to fight ISIS. We’re ‘Cruisin For A Bruisin’ in the United States if this is how we expect to elect the next President, and subsequently run the country. Don’t forget to join The Bob Davis Podcasts and Jason Lewis for a live podcast Saturday, Halloween at 11:00 AM in Lakeville, Minnesota at the Main Street Cafe. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing and Heating of Saint Paul. (Editor’s Note: I refer to Russia Today, which is a propaganda outlet for the Russian Government as Russia Times. It’s RT or Russia Today.)

PODCAST 430

You’re Not That Hot Anymore. Are the institutions of our society failing us, or just failing to live up to their over the top narratives? A bad customer service experience leads into a discussion – presented as sort of a rant but meant as a question  – about whether the business models and technology that seemed so forward five to ten years ago don’t seem that way at all now. Technology companies, Internet Service Providers, consumer products, office supplies, services, health care, travel, utilities and all kinds of services in the western world seem to have stopped progressing in terms of service to the customer a few years ago. No longer is it good enough to deliver a great product or service, you have to have an ‘amazing’ story, be saving the whales, or making your product in some aboriginal prefecture where you pay fair wages and post the obligatory pictures of building schools, or handing out water at the local marathon or breast cancer walk. What happened to buying a toaster that works, and when it doesn’t being able to rely on a customer service approach that says, “Yep, here’s a new one”? Instead you get protocols, upsells, long waits at the help desk (with the same three songs that play over and over) bored, surly or overwhelmed ticket agents, or admissions ‘techs’. The gauntlet of nose-ring festooned ‘greeters’ sporting ‘man-buns’ or just plain mean city, county, state and federal workers is actually the new normal. We need to talk about it, and we need to fix it. Is the problem that companies are spending too much time saving the whales, and not enough time saving the customer? Or is it excessive government regulation, poor economic growth, or we’re just not as competent as our ‘amazing’ history and resume says we are? No institution in our society is more dangerously corrupt and incompetent than the government, despite what the politicians say about Wall Street. What can be done? Meanwhile…still on hold with customer service. Sponsored by X Government Trucks and Pride of Homes and Luke Team Real Estate. (Editor’s Note: Podcast 429 isn’t done yet, and will be on the way…so here’s podcast 430. Don’t worry you didn’t miss one.
