Final Few Hours Before Caucus

These are the last few hours of the Iowa campaigns for the caucuses to be held February 3rd. First of all, I’m all over the state getting all the candidates before the big day. Joe Biden is featured in Election2020-Joe Biden-Council-Bluffs-Bob Davis Podcast 899.

I’ve covered a lot of political rallies and conventions over the years. Due to that experience I can say, few work a crowd better than the former Vice President.

Avoids The Podium

Maybe because of his experience he moves slow and walks around more than some candidates. Biden addresses people personally. He doesn’t always use the podium.

East Coast Style

Most noteworthy is his east coast style. Stories about his mother. Family. Personal thank yous to the firefighters for ‘saving my sons’ lives’, and so on. Jokes about his wife’s cat. Learn more in Election2020-Joe Biden-Council-Bluffs-Bob Davis Podcast 899.

All About Trump

For this democratic candidate like all the others though, it’s about President Trump.

Trump. Nazis. Fascism!

Trump’s treatment of the military. Trump’s tax cuts. Furthermore how he handles foreign policy. As with all of the democratic candidates I’ve seen so far, oblique or direct references to Nazi Germany.

Using Government For Good

Certainly there’s the long list of programs. The idea here is to use government to help people. In addition the explanations of tax policy, to ‘pay’ for those programs.

Sense Of Urgency

Even more creating a sense of urgency on Climate Change and finally on the need to unite and lead a country that’s in dire need of rebuilding.

Mix And Match Other Candidates Slogans And Programs

Above all the experience of seeing all the democratic candidates tends to gel in the observer’s mind. They steal each other’s slogans, mix and match programs and ideas.

Uniting The Country

Similarly every speaker is the one and only who can bind up the wounds and unite the country after the terrible scourge that is Trump. Joe Biden is no different on that score. But it’s really about winning.

Will Americans Agree?

In conclusion the real question is whether every day Americans who vote, see Trump as a scourge. More importantly for Joe Biden, whether they decide he’s the guy who can get the job done.

Time will tell.

Stoked For The Road

I am as stoked as a kid can get at the beginning of a trip. These days you hear so much about ‘The Midwest’. Seems like none of the New York and Washington reporters ever go there. That’s the mission in Backroads-Adventure-Minnesota-Iowa-Bob Davis Podcast 877.

First Rule Of Roadtripping?

Already posted the actual plan for the trip so I don’t have to do that again. Except for one thing. First of rule of road tripping? A plan is only a plan. More than once I’ve had to make ‘audible’ calls.

US And State Roads Not Always Well Marked

It’s especially relevant for future road trippers to realize the people responsible for these things don’t mark US Highway and State Roads very well in urban areas.

Google Maps and Real Maps

Moreover I do not like google and apple maps. Yes, they’re efficient. However they take the romance out of navigating your way through cities like Des Moines in an effort to stay on course.

Going There Beats Seeing It On You Tube

First of all if you want to see the mythical ‘Midwest’ you have to actually go there. Second navigating the backroads allows the traveler to ‘angle’ up or down. On the Interstate the traveler is often shunted in hard angles.

Back Roads Save Fuel

Yeah it sure seems like you’re going fast. Truth is the traveler can save time and fuel by using our complex network of local and state roads, and the old national highway system.

You Have To Pay Attention

Furthermore it works pretty well. The problem is you have to really pay attention. More details on this subject in Backroads-Adventure-Minnesota-Iowa-Bob Davis Podcast 877.

Road Thoughts

Finally I don’t want to limit myself to simple travelogue podcasts. You’ll know where I am and what I am doing. It’s the thoughts that come to a person when they’re hitting the road at Thanksgiving that are more memorable.

Summer and Winter Road Tripping

Consequently you’ll hear all about the difference between winter and summer road tripping, driving during the night this time of year, and more.

How Independent Are We?

Even more, after driving through one of the most productive farm centers of the United States, and seeing the federally funded development in more than one small town, I wonder how independent we really are.

Burlington Iowa Development

Certainly I was thinking along these lines when I stopped in Burlington, Iowa on the Mississippi, just before heading into Illinois.

Indiana, Illinois and Ohio Next

In conclusion to hear the whole plan for the trip go here. Stand by for more podcasts on the road this holiday season from Illinois, Indiana and Ohio, next.

Podcast 459

Rolling The Dice In Iowa. This was a day in which Donald Trump pulled out of the ‘sanctioned’ Republican debate. Des Moines was beset with a plague of TV trucks, politicians and rallies. Drake hosted two of these events, and after The Bob Davis Podcasts were denied media credentials for the ‘sanctioned’ Republican debate, we took to waiting in line for our tickets like everyone else. Rand Paul’s event at Drake was smaller – no lines snaking around the block – but no less enthusiastic. Paul appeared, and spoke for about 25 minutes about liberty, freedom and The Bill of Rights, saying ideas bring people together, and the concept of freedom seems to be very effective in this effort. Aly Eichman, volunteering for Paul joins the podcasts to talk about Paul’s impressive precinct organizing effort, which has netted the Senator as many as one thousand precinct chairs statewide. Remember the Iowa PRECINCT Caucuses? Will that kind of organizing make a difference? Then there’s Donald Trump who made sure thousands of people had tickets to an event in an auditorium that accommodates somewhere around 750 to 800. Was it a brilliant move? Will it mean Trump will win Iowa? Standing in line for two hours with Iowans was an eye opener, as well as a hand and feet freezer. Many of the people waiting to see Trump don’t plan to caucus for him. It seems they just want to see Trump, like they might come to see Justin Bieber. Here again, we’ll see. The more time spent here, the more one concludes this really is rolling The Tumbling Dice. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing and Heating of Saint Paul and X Government Cars
