Final Few Hours Before Caucus

These are the last few hours of the Iowa campaigns for the caucuses to be held February 3rd. First of all, I’m all over the state getting all the candidates before the big day. Joe Biden is featured in Election2020-Joe Biden-Council-Bluffs-Bob Davis Podcast 899.

I’ve covered a lot of political rallies and conventions over the years. Due to that experience I can say, few work a crowd better than the former Vice President.

Avoids The Podium

Maybe because of his experience he moves slow and walks around more than some candidates. Biden addresses people personally. He doesn’t always use the podium.

East Coast Style

Most noteworthy is his east coast style. Stories about his mother. Family. Personal thank yous to the firefighters for ‘saving my sons’ lives’, and so on. Jokes about his wife’s cat. Learn more in Election2020-Joe Biden-Council-Bluffs-Bob Davis Podcast 899.

All About Trump

For this democratic candidate like all the others though, it’s about President Trump.

Trump. Nazis. Fascism!

Trump’s treatment of the military. Trump’s tax cuts. Furthermore how he handles foreign policy. As with all of the democratic candidates I’ve seen so far, oblique or direct references to Nazi Germany.

Using Government For Good

Certainly there’s the long list of programs. The idea here is to use government to help people. In addition the explanations of tax policy, to ‘pay’ for those programs.

Sense Of Urgency

Even more creating a sense of urgency on Climate Change and finally on the need to unite and lead a country that’s in dire need of rebuilding.

Mix And Match Other Candidates Slogans And Programs

Above all the experience of seeing all the democratic candidates tends to gel in the observer’s mind. They steal each other’s slogans, mix and match programs and ideas.

Uniting The Country

Similarly every speaker is the one and only who can bind up the wounds and unite the country after the terrible scourge that is Trump. Joe Biden is no different on that score. But it’s really about winning.

Will Americans Agree?

In conclusion the real question is whether every day Americans who vote, see Trump as a scourge. More importantly for Joe Biden, whether they decide he’s the guy who can get the job done.

Time will tell.

Podcast 583-Summer Storm

Podcast 583-Summer Storm. Nothing better than a summer storm to help you forget the bitter cold. It’s well below zero in Minnesota. While Europe and parts of the South consider mid twenties to thirties ‘bitter’ cold, in the Upper Midwest we’re talking minus twenty, thirty or even forty below. This is the kind of cold you don’t need windchill to exaggerate. If you’re in the deep freeze this podcast is designed to provide a half an hour or so of relief.

Last summer I had a chance to record a huge summer storm that rolled through the area. The storm track on this podcast isn’t edited. It was recorded in real time, complete with bouts of heavy rain and thunder. Interspersed throughout the storm are some thought starters to help subscribers to the Bob Davis Podcasts mentally escape.

Maybe when you were a kid your family did a road trip to Florida. Or while in college you and your friends took a trip through the mountains, or the desert. Many have had one of those summer college jobs for some agricultural company that required rolling around on back roads across Iowa and North Dakota, recording the growth of corn, or whatever those companies require people to write down on clipboards.

For me, sitting in a broken down old ’67 Ford Galaxy in the fields and watching the storms roll in across the prairie in Rural Illinois, will always remind me of deep summer. It’s easy for people to say, “Why don’t you get on a plane and go to LA, or Hawaii”. Yes, it sure would be nice. Thing is, not all of us can do that.

As we head into the deep freeze, keep this podcast handy. Put on your headphones for Podcast 583-Summer Storm and prepare to be transported to my porch during an awesome summer storm. Of course, you’ll have to put up with me talking in your ear about places I’ve been and places to go, but it’s better than looking out the window wishing it wasn’t twenty five below.

It is true we welcome the cold weather, at least the first blush and especially at Christmas Time. Trust me, though. You’re going to want to escape. If you can’t get away as soon as you’d like to or at all this year, Podcast 583-Summer Storm is your ticket to paradise. Summer in the Midwest. Storms. Thunder. Steady Rain. The hum of summer insects. Thoughts of rolling down two lane roads cutting through green fields. Freedom is a clean windshield and a full tank of gas.

Travel Frustrations. When traveling sometimes, nothing goes as planned, and even the smallest effort to go where you intended, or do what you intended, fails. Its frustrating and eventually mind numbing. The bane of the digital traveler these days is Internet service that is too slow, spotty, or not robust enough to accommodate file uploads. Attempt after attempt to upload failed, in different villages all over Maryland’s Eastern Shore. From Salisbury, to Easton, and finally to Rock Hill. Literally the ends of the earth … but in the process riding on two lane farm roads in what is probably one of the most beautiful parts of rural America, in the middle of some of the largest population centers on the East Coast. There’s a great opportunity out there for enterprises to get free WIFI and robust Internet service right. As more and more people consider ‘untethering’; Something more big companies than you think are considering. It means closing offices, getting rid of big staffs and running things from the road, untethered. This is supposedly made easier with high speed Internet and WIFI, and autonomous software that does the work of the back office. All fine and well, but the places you want to go sometimes just don’t have the capabilities to accommodate a digital ‘road warrior’. So far, Starbucks has it down cold, with high speed internet for uploads, and free WIFI. Nothing to sign up for, nothing to log in on, no nonsense. There may be other solutions fine for surfing the net, but when it comes to uploading it’s a different story. Note to someone; We can’t work untethered if the upload capacity isn’t there. In spite of all that, there is enough technology present in the Mobile Podcast Command Unit, to make it possible to do quality audio from the road. The bottle neck is sending it somewhere. Travel may be frustrating but the happy accidents are what makes it worth the time. Having the opportunity to literally drive all over Del Marva Peninsula from the Atlanta to the Chesapeake Bay, from Norfolk and Virginia Beach, to Baltimore, also provides an opportunity to see a lot of this part of the country from the backroads. The reality? Some people may think the United States is coming apart at the seams, but it looks pretty prosperous from this perspective. Maybe some ought to stop shouting about the end of the world and start talking about how and why they think things should be a certain way. It’s hard to think people are enjoying these perfect summer days on the East Coast, shaking their heads and waiting for the ‘Walking Dead’ scenario to play out. Sponsored by X Government Cars
