Walking-Nomad-Labyrinth-Bob Davis Podcast 1028

Walking The Nomad Labyrinth

Above all travel is a meditation so walking the nomad labyrinth is what it’s all about. What’s a labyrinth? Learn more in Walking-Nomad-Labyrinth-Bob Davis Podcast 1028.

Mission

Firstly when I pulled away from my house over a year ago to start this adventure I didn’t really have a mission. A reason for doing what I was doing.

Just Driving

Secondly I learned pretty quickly there is a meditative quality to just driving. Just watching the landscape roll by.

Coast To Coast

And this is what I did consistently for a year. Coast to coast. Border to Border. Crisscrossing the Midwest many times.

Slow Down

These days I’ve decided to slow down. Spend some time in places I’m interested in.

Finding A Footing

Therefore my podcasts have been a little more philosophical lately due to finding new footing in a slower travel approach.

Mission Statement For Second Year

Most importantly right now I am working to define a mission statement for the second year of travel.

Just Scratched The Surface

Because I feel like I have only scratched the surface.

Getting To Know A Place

Whether I am in some dusty Texas beach town or here in Quirky Quartzsite Arizona I am spending a little more time to get to know the town and its people.

Cue The Wanderlust

Certainly I haven’t lost my wanderlust.

New Orientation

And I have detailed my new orientation to higher fuel prices.

Campground Is Home

However I was a little surprised at how easily I’ve settled in on a Bureau of Land Management Campground just north of town.

More Time To Think

As a result I have some time to think in some different ways.

Urban Life

For example lately I’m interested in how the pressures and intensity of urban life doesn’t really effect the nomad.

Challenges

Certainly we have our trials and tribulations, but even these often become fun challenges.

Learning New Skills

Even more we’re always learning new skills, back road routes and about new campsites and rigs.

Internal Processes

Finally what has always interested me is the internal processes we nomads experience.

Common and Extraordinary

And I think those experiences are both common and extraordinary among the nomad community.

Walk About Talk About

In short this is what I have decided to talk about when I am relating my nomad experiences.

That is to say there are plenty of communicators talking about the best bike rack to buy for your rig, or where to get new tires and how to dump your tanks somewhere.

Not Easy

On the other hand these sometimes powerfully emotional experiences we have are not easy to put into words, let alone talk about.

Choices

But that is what I have chosen to do.

To sum up some of these musings are better than others, when it comes to a Podcast.

In the same vein it’s all part of the work.

Breaking News-Ask-A-Nomad-Bob Davis Podcast 1019

Breaking News? Ask A Nomad

These days Breaking News is not something you’d ask a nomad about. However I think we might have some insight. Learn more in Breaking News-Ask-A-Nomad-Bob Davis Podcast 1019.

Insights on Breaking News

Firstly I just finished a podcast with my friend Don and we had some insights on a breaking news matter. Listen here.

Podcasting Isn’t Breaking News Thank God

Secondly that experience reminded me Podcasting is not a great breaking news medium.

Certainly there are podcasts that focus on current events but even these efforts focus on analysis.

Travel Isn’t About Breaking News

In addition I came to the conclusion that travel isn’t about breaking news either.

Especially Nomad Travel.

Moment My Moment

In other words Nomad Travel is a moment by moment experience.

Therefore there is a sort of Zen to it.

Life Back In The World

Even more these days I am thinking more and more about life ‘back in the world’.

In the static day to day world.

Life In The Cities

As a result I thought about how I feel when I am in cities, which I usually try to avoid.

Fear Frustration and Anger

To me the sense of fear, frustration and anger are something I can feel in the cities.

Me Too!

On the other hand I would feel those powerful negative emotions had I not decided to chuck everything and hit the road.

Slicing and Dicing

Finally back in the world there’s a sense of slicing and dicing every event that comes down the pike.

Hitting The Road Is A Trend

Because there are so many new people hitting the road I have a feeling ‘Breaking News’ will follow.

Experts Won’t Be Far Behind

That is to say whenever you get big numbers into a trend the so called ‘experts’ can’t be far behind.

Caution Scolds Ahead

Even more given certain breaking news events look for thousand words tomes cautioning people on the dangers of ‘van life’.

Going Where We’re Drawn

Meanwhile we’re out here going where and when the wind blows us.

The Secret Is Freedom

To sum up the big secret and draw of Nomad Life is Freedom.

Freedom.

A feeling many back in the stationary world don’t have right now.

But there’s lots of breaking news.

Maine-Extreme-North-Down-East-Bob Davis Podcast 1009

Maine Extreme North Down East

Most importantly I am in Maine’s Extreme North heading all the way Down East and you can learn more about the trip in Maine-Extreme-North-Down-East-Bob Davis Podcast 1009.

It Was A Quick Tour Of The Northeast

Firstly I am taking what started out as a quick tour of the Northeast US.

Wanting To Spend More Time

Secondly I am finding myself wanting to spend more time here.

Three States

Above all there were three states I had ever been to despite all my travels.

Vermont. New Hampshire. Maine.

Southern New Hampshire Still To Come

To clarify haven’t spent much time in New Hampshire because I went through quickly on my way to Maine.

Days in Vermont and Maine

On the other hand I spent three days in Vermont and now an equal amount of time in Maine.

Massachusetts!

Of course I’ll be heading back through southern New Hampshire on the way Massachusetts.

Wild and Wonderful

Consequently while Vermont feels like a warm blanket Maine feels wild and wonderful.

Down East

I would think that certainly most people are most familiar with ‘Down East’.

Maine’s South Eastern Shore

Even more if they’re from the East Coast they’ve probably spent time on Maine’s South Eastern shores,

Origin Of Down East

However the origin of the term ‘Down East’ is a sailing term and only refers to geography secondarily.

Corrections Are In Order

Therefore I have to correct my own definition of the term in Maine-Extreme-North-Down-East-Bob Davis Podcast 1009.

Partial To Northern Maine

Finally I find myself partial to Northern Maine, up by the Canadian Border.

Moreover I am not sure why.

Maybe because every place I saw around the bend looked like a scene from a Stephen King novel.

Maine’s State Parks

Certainly Maine’s state parks are great.

Remote Regions

And Northern Maine features some of the most remote regions in the United States let alone the East Coast.

Extremes

Likewise it is hard to imagine a place more remote and extreme considering I am within driving distance of some of the most densely populated cities in the country.

History? We Got Your History!

Finally if it is history you’re looking for Maine has it in spades.

French Explorers and Extreme Weather

Native Americans, French Explorers, Colonial Wars, Early Settlements and Extreme Weather.

Down East Is Civilization

To sum up once you get ‘Down East’ you’ll see more of the colonial era villages Vermont is famous for.

Harbors and Ferries

Even more the harbors and ferries.

Acadia!

And don’t forget Acadia National Park which I did!

Leaving Something For The Next Visit

In conclusion it’s always good to leave some things undone on any tour through a state like Maine.

Because I’ll be back.

Pace Of Travel

In addition it’s always good to spend a little time in these podcasts talking about the pace of travel and the internal processes of a nomad.
