Human Potential-Bob Davis Podcast 821

Every now and then you see something on social media that bugs you for days. These days, for me, it often has to do with Minnesota Politics. We’ll talk about it in Human Potential-Bob Davis Podcast 821.

Rag Tag Protest In Minnesota’s 6th District

On a misty and warm April morning in Minnesota a rag tag group of protesters showed up outside Elk River High School. This was the scene of the 6th Congressional District Republican Convention.

Blaming Somalis

Especially relevant was the target of the protesters; the Somali population of the 6th District.

Emmer and Abeler Sell Outs

Moreover Congressman Tom Emmer and State Senator Jim Abeler were featured in signage as ‘sell outs’ to Somali-American and Democrat interests in the district.

Muslims Running Amok

For republicans in the 6th, a top issue are Muslims running amok. There are two large Somali populations in Minnesota. One in Minneapolis and another slightly smaller group in Saint Cloud, in the heart of the 6th district.

Fear Sharia Law

Above all these voters think Sharia Law will become the law of the land. In Human Potential-Bob Davis Podcast 821 I’ll tell you why this is never likely to happen.

Civil Rights

They cite an outreach by Emmer to former congressman and now State’s Attorney General Keith Ellison as the chief reason Emmer is a sell out. Would their remedy violate the civil rights of American Citizens? Find out in Human Potential-Bob Davis Podcast 821.

Abeler and Emmer Keep Winning

State Senator Jim Abeler is a footnote in this controversy. Republicans here complain constantly about Abeler’s performance in the state legislature, but somehow he keeps getting elected. So does Emmer.

So Do Democrats

Unfortunately for republicans it is most noteworthy that democrats won all the statewide races in last year’s election and gained control of the state house of representatives. Furthermore democrats took two districts which have been in republican hands for years, solidifying their hold on the Minneapolis suburbs.

Big Spending Republicans

Furthermore it is republicans who continue to spend while they demand lower taxes, then blame it on democrats. Finally there are two conditions necessary to unlock Human Potential and guarantee prosperity. Sound Money and Low Taxes. Neither of those are happening even though republicans control the presidency and the US Senate because both sides keep spending, taxing and borrowing.

Individual Human Potential Wasted By Politicians

I think it’s time for new political parties and new politics in this country and in Minnesota. Unfortunately given the incompetence, poor leadership and raw stupidity on the republican side, it probably won’t do much to help anyone’s individual human potential. Or capitalism.

(Editor’s Note: In addition, the centerpiece of the protest at the CD6 convention this weekend are allegations surrounding the state’s Child Care Assistance Program and Somali day care programs. A recent report on KMSP TV alleged ‘suitcases full of money’ were being sent out of MSP among other things. These allegations were investigated by the Minnesota Legislature. A report issued in March of this year found no actual evidence of a connection between terrorists and the CCAP. Here’s a link to a balanced report from MinnPost. As usual with these kinds of issues, once you start unpacking them you learn it’s easy to make charges and not so easy to prove them. Oddly similar to the Mueller report conclusions being touted by Trumpers as we speak.)

Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31

Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31. This week’s edition of the radio show, now heard Sunday’s at 4PM on AM1280 The Patriot in Minneapolis and Saint Paul with new affiliates as we get them through the syndicator, GCNLIVE.com. This is a great review of the week, with some new content for the radio show that hasn’t been in the podcasts. The mission of this show is to bring content from the podcasts back to the radio. This week – in podcast time – has been a difficult week, in the wake of the Orlando Terror Attack. The social and political debate has followed the path I predicted last Sunday night. Gun Control advocates on one side, people who think the failure is the President’s and it is because he refuses to use the term Radical Islam to describe the enemies of the United States. Again predictably, the same lines of argument played out in Congress, and across the board in the media. Most of what happened this week has been useless in protecting Americans from potential ‘lone wolf’ terrorists, and the fact is, little will be done as we have a presidential election, and then the inauguration of a new president and congress in January of next year. It will take time for the new president and congress to grapple with these issues, and form new policy ideas and formulate plans to ‘deal’ with whatever the problem is. The fact that the argument follows predictable pathways is as depressing as the event itself. We’ll change the energy a little bit in Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31, to talk about creativity, business and being an entrepreneur. If you listened to Podcast 513 it will be amusing to listen to the edited version of that podcast for the final segment of Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31, because it is edited for radio station programmers and owners, slightly softening some of the harshest criticism of the radio business heard in Podcast 513. Still, some of the points are applicable to any American business institution these days, whether it is corporate America, or even some elements of politics. Given the technology we have to amplify the individual, there’s still a lot of old thinking in business and politics these days. Sponsored by Karow Contracting and Hydrus Performance.

Dry Cycle. The update turns into a discussion of the fallibility of media, even your favorite cable news channel. This weekend, Fox News had to correct itself and apologize profusely for reporting there are ‘no go’ zones in Europe, where non muslims fear to tread, and the police won’t enter. Everyone was talking about it all weekend after Fox anchors and guests apparently got it wrong. These are neighborhoods in England and suburbs in France that are about as forbidding as LA’s Compton, or Chicago’s South Side. While Europe has been more lenient allowing Sharia Law, it does not mean muslim ‘enclaves’ have sprouted, even though allowing a separate law for Muslims in a modern, western democracy is not a good idea. That said, the President and the Pope continue to support limits on free speech. President Obama even went so far as to say he doesn’t consider terrorism a existential threat, which it most certainly is, then said Europe has to do a better job ‘integrating’ its Muslims. Maybe he fell for the No Go story too. This provokes a whole conversation about how to wean yourself from cable news and talk radio, develop multiple sources of information, deal in facts, avoid the emotion spewing out of talk radio and fox news, and use your tools to find and develop deeper knowledge on key subjects. The need to fill the airwaves, pushes under financed and poorly managed outlets to spew out incorrect information, relying on ping ponging viewers back and forth between the latest outrage and the latest breaking news. The good news? That kind of media’s glory days are behind it, as it gives way to on demand audio (podcasts), You Tube, NetFlix and future on demand video services. A recent survey reports that most millennials don’t ever watch broadcast television, seldom watch cable news channels, and download virtually all their entertainment and information. In an on demand world, the daily outrage may not work as well, as people seek out information, rather than people screaming at each other. The latest example? NASA says 2014 was the hottest year on record? Do you know by how much? Do you know what the margin of error is in that estimate? The answer might surprise you. Finally, Arizona and other states are passing laws which require high school seniors to pass citizenship exams in order to graduate. Good idea? Sponsored by Baklund R&D
