Nomad Winter Escape Adventure

Firstly time for a Nomad Winter Escape Adventure. Details in Nomad-Winter-Escape-Adventure-Bob Davis Podcast-1156.

Winter Break Up North

Secondly right about now just about everyone in North America is looking for a winter break.

Polar Vortex

Certainly the arrival of the Polar Vortex and Winter Storms are key.

Cold In The West Too

In addition even out west it’s cold in the higher elevations.

Nomads

Equally important is the need for nomads for warm days and nights.

Challenged

Accordingly the adventure here is the often challenged nomad migration from the higher altitudes to the lower.

Life On The Road

Of course because life on the road requires multiple stops in transit it becomes an adventure.

Eastern Sierra

Thirdly I love the Eastern Sierras.

Spring and Fall

However this locale is a lot more palatable in the Spring and Fall.

Lone Pine To Organ Pipe

Since I just made the trip from Lone Pine California to Organ Pipe National Monument in Arizona I can tell the story.

All things considered I was warmer in the below sea level reaches of Death Valley.

But I don’t like to back track.

San Diego

It’s for this reason that I headed toward San Diego.

Owing to the fact that I had video to upload I was in search of a Starbucks and a place to hole up for a night while I uploaded.

In reality apparently San Diego doesn’t like Truck Stops or National Forests.

And, like Florida, this part of the California frowns on stays in Walmart parking lots, Cracker Barrel’s, or Denny’s.

All things considered any nomad out there is nodding their head.

In the final analysis I do not blame the San Diego area.

Rest Area

At the same time the best I could do was a rest area about forty miles east of the city.

At length let the downloading begin!

Campground

Finally found a great campground a little farther east.

Santa Ana Winds

At length I found the nights still too cold with the Santa Ana winds and headed for Arizona.

Mundane Adventure

With this in mind Nomad-Winter-Escape-Adventure-Bob Davis Podcast-1156 is all about the little errands and things we have to do that makes nomad life an adventure sometimes.

In any case any refugee from the current Polar Vortex will find California and Arizona quite pleasant despite slightly cool evenings.

Organ Pipe Dream

And Organ Pipe National Monument is a dream.

Historic April Snow-Bob Davis Podcast 822

These days you don’t always believe something is true just because the media says so. Unfortunately for the Upper Midwest, this time they were right. Find out why in Historic April Snow-Bob Davis Podcast 822.

Missouri Storm Chaser Steven Coy

I am especially happy to reconnect with Missouri Storm Chaser Steven Coy. I’ve known Steven since storm chasing more than a year ago in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. So when a surprise snow storm hits Minnesota, Coy is the go to guy for me.

A Bomb Cyclone? What’s That?

Furthermore when we hear words like ‘Bomb Cyclone‘ being thrown about it’s time to talk to someone who can decipher the weather jargon and get to root of the matter.

Lots of Snow

Most noteworthy the news is not good for western Minnesota which may face as much as twenty inches of spring snow, according to Steven and the National Weather Service.

Winds Picking Up. More Snow Into Late Thursday

Likewise the weather isn’t good in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul where winds began picking up Wednesday night. With potentially a foot of snow and high winds into Friday.

Spring Is Delayed

Certainly spring is going to be delayed. Again.

Moreover after a winter of extended double digits below zero few welcome a reprise.

Why? Why? Why?

Especially relevant is the question of why this is happening. Is it the magnetic pole drift? El Nino? Are the jet streams breaking up? Is the world about to end. We’ll find out in Historic April Snow-Bob Davis Podcast 822.

Someone Who Knows His Weather

Steven Coy is a very down to earth guy who knows his weather. For someone so young to have several great storm photos and videos to his credit is impressive. Not to mention a lot of miles storm chasing and a boatload of FaceBook fans.

Please God. Can It Just Be Over?

While we claim to be a hardy lot in the land of ten thousand lakes, we just want this to be over.

Sub Zero Temperatures-Yoga-Body Effects-Bob Davis Podcast 805

Minnesotans love to talk about the weather. These days sub zero weather in the upper midwest is a fact of life. How does it effect your yoga practice? Find out in Sub Zero Temperatures-Yoga-Body Effects-Bob Davis Podcast 805.

Minus 32 is a lot colder than 17

First of all when it comes to yoga there’s a big difference between 17 to 20 degrees and 30 degrees below zero. By the way, we’re talking Fahrenheit here, not Celsius.

Our Bodies Don’t Adjust As Quickly As Our Minds

Furthermore we practice in rooms heated sometimes above one hundred degrees. In contrast our bodies are still adjusted to sub zero temperatures.

One Hundred and Thirty Degree Temperature Difference

Hard to believe there is a a one hundred a thirty degree temperature difference between outside and the studio when it is 30 below zero.

Easier To Practice When It’s Thirty

Moreover outside temps see sawing between below zero real temperatures and warm spells of above thirty. This too effects my practice. Yes it’s a lot easier to practice when it’s thirty outside.

Falling On Ice

Finally we’re all dealing with physical exertion beyond spring, fall and summer. Falling on the ice. Shoveling snow. Ice Fishing. Winter fun. They all help get through a tough season but take their toll.

Daily Practice Means Daily Practice

In conclusion it doesn’t matter how cold it is, I am still going out to join the rest of the community in practice. Being committed to a daily practice sometimes means pushing yourself, but it is so worth it. Some days are easier than others but I always feel great after practice.

See you in the studio
