Suggestions and Support For Nomad Life

Certainly I get a lot of suggestions. And I welcome the support and interest in this nomad life effort.

Recent Suggestions

Firstly, one of recent suggestion was, get a camera in the truck. Just turn it on and record. That would be my ‘video’ channel. I appreciate the fact that people want to help and participate.

Secondly it just doesn’t work that way for me.

Nomad Life Is An Internal Process

For instance my experience is this is very much an internal process. I never knew how much noise my brain made until I decided to hit the road. Alone.

True Freedom

Even more once you give away everything you own and release the connection to place the potential to experience true freedom is there.

Your Mind Makes Noise

However the mind resists. Makes noise. Produces various reactions.

New Understanding

But until I hit the road permanently I never really fully understood.

Intensely Personal Experiences

In the same vein these are intensely personal experiences.

Personal Memories Too

As a result the memories are also personal. Although I work in the audio medium it’s very difficult to relate those internal processes, let alone produce videos about it.

A Challenging Time

Finally we’re living through a challenging time. I don’t feel it as much because I am mobile. But it’s there.

Planetary Conjunction

Above all on a date which marks the ending of the darkness and the beginning of the light, and a planetary conjunction to boot, I have some observations about that too!

Sights Smells Feelings

To sum up nomad life for me has been a jumbled collection of visual memories. Sights. Smells. Feelings.

Covering A Lot Of Ground

From Minnesota all the way through the middle of the country and deep south, to the deserts of the American Southwest.

Only Just Started

In short like life itself I’ve covered a lot of ground but it feels like I’ve only just started.

Civil-War-Echoes-Bob Davis Podcast 968

Civil War Echoes In North Carolina

First of all we don’t notice the echoes of the US Civil War most of the time. But they’re there. Especially in the American South. Hear those echoes in Civil-War-Echoes-Bob Davis Podcast 968.

Civil War

Secondly I’ve studied the Civil War and lived in the South.

Life Long Learner

Of course that doesn’t make me an authority on so called Southern Culture.

Many Reminders Of The War In The South

But if you are a thinking person and you travel through the south, you can’t help but notice many reminders of that war.

Mute Reminders of Struggle

Even more plaques by the side of the road serve as mute reminders of desperate struggle, death and loss.

Monuments To The Confederacy

Above all my own thoughts about why there are any monuments to the Confederacy manifested in real time.

Black Lives Matter Protest

I drove right into a Black Lives Matter protest in the nice little town of Graham, North Carolina.

Time To Stop!

Consequently I had to stop and record.

160 Years Later It Is Still Real

Civil-War-Echoes-Bob Davis Podcast 968 is a slice of the emotions that still smoulder in this country and especially in the South, one hundred sixty years later.

Peaceful Protest

Most importantly this was a peaceful protest on both sides. BLM, and the locals.

Monument To Common Confederate Soldier In Graham North Carolina

At issue is one of many monuments to the common confederate soldiers who perished in the war.

Glorifying Slavery or Celebrating Culture and Heritage

In short protesters say these kinds of monuments glorify a system based on slavery. Locals say it is their heritage and culture.

Thoughts Manifest In Real Time

Most importantly I did this podcast because I was struck at the resonance of a sudden real event and my thoughts.

Southern Culture Isn’t Just Pecan Pie and Cotton

In addition it is also a good time to say some things about what Southern Culture might actually be about.

The Civil War Still Hurts Us All

In short to wonder why a war that hurts us still, had to ever happen to begin with.

Nashville-Broadway-Saturday-Night-Bob Davis Podcast 965

Nashville Broadway Saturday Night

What’s Nashville’s Broadway District like on a Saturday night? It’s something you have to hear to believe. I’ll take you there in Nashville-Broadway-Saturday-Night-Bob Davis Podcast 965.

Friends Out On Broadway

First of all every time I come to Tennessee I visit my friend John Holland and we do a podcast.

A Nomad Checks In On Music City

Second when John moved to Nashville and I went nomad, I knew I’d be visiting Music City at some point.

Riding And Podcasting

But rather than sit around and talk, we thought we’d take a ride through one of the top tourist attractions in Nashville and do a podcast.

So that’s the backdrop for Nashville-Broadway-Saturday-Night-Bob Davis Podcast 965.

Covid Concerns In Nashville

Above all there sure doesn’t seem to be much concern about Covid here! Thousands of people in the streets. Many of them wearing masks. Many not.

Certainly Broadway is a tourist attraction. However it is a lot of fun just to see so many people having so much fun.

Having Fun On Broadway

Party buses. Pedal Pubs. Bar band after bar band “turning it up to eleven” to compete with each other and the street musicians.

Stories Too

More importantly there’s a lot of stories in this podcast.

New City New Job

Moving to a new city for a new job. All the usual stories about Nashville’s real “down home” nice.

Further plenty to talk about when it comes to Tennessee’s lack of a state income tax and business friendly environment. The state is growing, of course. But Nashville is a major city these days.

Big Changes In Nashville

A big change from what it was like when I used to come through here on Family road trips.

Trump Country?

Of course everyone I know wants to know what it’s like in “Trump Country”.

Not So Fast

On the other hand Nashville is a more cosmopolitan place than it used to be. Meanwhile Tennessee itself of course votes ‘red’.

Finger On The Pulse

John Holland gives us his usual political run down. After spending years in Chattanooga, Tennessee and working in many of the south’s now burgeoning cities, he’s usually got his finger on the pulse.

Media Town

Finally the fact is, I was amazed at the number of people living in the Nashville Metro who work in media.

The music business, recording studios, film and video production, music itself and much more.

Finally it’s obvious from a trip through Broadway on a Saturday Night, Nashville loves to party.

The Real Nashville…Next Time

Even more I can’t wait to come back and see the real down home Nashville the locals know.

Music City works for me!
