Road-To-Shambala-Bob Davis Podcast 1059

Road To Shambala

Firstly the road to Shambala took me through the Grand Canyon, Navajo Nation and the San Juan Mountains. Learn more in Road-To-Shambala-Bob Davis Podcast 1059.

Obsession

Secondly the road to Shambala is all about a bit of an obsession these days.

Tired Of The Vice

Certainly younger adults are beginning to tire of high rents and home prices back in the world.

And the day to day pressure in big cities that has begun to feel like a vice.

Welcoming Community

Therefore there’s a lot of conversation about how to design and build a welcoming community.

Sustainable Community

Even more a sustainable community that works.

Welcome to Shambala!

Mountains

Nestled high in the mountains of Colorado.

Mining And Farming

Above all Shambala is a mining and farm community.

But with a twist.

Dedicated To Community

Most of Shambala’s new and long term residents are committed to building just such a community mentioned above.

So far they’re making it work.

Don’t Tell Anyone

And that is why they don’t want anyone to know the actual name of the town.

Cooperation and Collaboration

For example community kitchens, Waldorf based schools and a spirit of cooperation and collaboration.

Most importantly this is a community that works at being a community.

Questions

Certainly I have questions. We’ll talk about them in Road-To-Shambala-Bob Davis Podcast 1059.

Thai Food At The Community Kitchen

However it’s pretty amazing to be able to enjoy Thai Food at the community kitchen with ingredients picked that morning from a local farm.

Newborns Welcome

Another for instance might be how the town welcomes new born babies.

Celebrations and Events

In addition there are plenty of town celebrations and events.

Networking

Finally it is an idea people network and work toward in Shambala.

Huge Trend

In conclusion interest in sustainability and community is a huge trend with certain demographics today.

In short it is great to see the work pay off in the community.

Not Bougie

Finally Shambala is a western mountain town without bougie trappings.

No Expensive Development

And without the expensive development that has ruined so many other western towns.

SlabCity-USA-Salton-Sea-Bob Davis Podcast 1047

SlabCity USA and The Salton Sea

Above all this part of California is not a resort and SlabCity or the Salton Sea is no exception. Details in SlabCity-USA-Salton-Sea-Bob Davis Podcast 1047.

Slab City Gets A Lot Of Media

Firstly I have seen articles about Slab City USA for years.

Hot Springs

Even more a person appeared in our camp in Arizona recently and insisted we go to Slab City ‘if only for the hot springs‘.

New Experience

Secondly I have never experienced the hot springs.

Short Distance

And since high fuel prices are slowing everyone’s roll we thought heading a short distance over to SlabCity USA was a good plan.

Not A Resort

Most importantly Slab City itself is not a resort.

Of course there are some RV campgrounds.

America’s Last Free Place

But most of the people at Slab City are not your average RV Life Community.

Slabbies

Certainly the so called ‘Slabbies’ are my kind of people.

Don’t Bring The Million Dollar Rig…Or Bring It

On the other hand they might not be your kind of people if you’re rig is an eight hundred thousand dollar coach.

Salton Sea

In addition there is the whole Salton Sea experience.

Mistake Lake

For example The Salton Sea itself was created by mistake.

Mecca For 1960’s Tourists Is Dying

Moreover the sea is dying although it was a mecca for tourists back in the day.

Which is kind of cool.

Details in SlabCity-USA-Salton-Sea-Bob Davis Podcast 1047.

Leave Some Attractions

Meanwhile I did not visit the so called Slab City Monument for some of the other attractions here.

We Always Come Back

In short I have learned over the years to leave some experiences because we always come back.

Novelty

And of course I want my travel experiences to have some novelty to them as time goes on.

Partial To Hot Springs

Further I am kind of partial to the hot springs.

Finally a little primer and what you’ll see and some of the people you will meet if you’re going to visit SlabCity USA.

Travel These Days

To sum up I am taking shorter trips as I travel these days.

Deeper Experiences

On the other hand I am seeing and getting to know places I want to come back to.

Isn’t that what it’s all about?

(Editor’s Note: Every now and then I make a silly mistake. I don’t know why but I said Slab City is “Something like six hundred THOUSAND acres”, which would make it very large indeed, even for a former Marine Base. Slab City USA is in fact something like 632 acres. Still pretty large, right?)

Summer-Sounds-2022-Bob Davis Podcast 1045

Summer Sounds 2022 Immersion Therapy

Firstly I think we all need a break from the craziness right now. I’ll give you that in Summer-Sounds-2022-Bob Davis Podcast 1045.

Headphones

Secondly put your headphones on to listen.

Spring Is Here

Certainly spring is here.

Not In The North

But in much of the northern tier winter can still come back with a vengeance.

Real Summer Experience

And the real summer experience is a few months away for most northerners.

Sounds You Might Be Missing

Even more if you live in the desert but were raised up north there’s a lot of sound in Summer-Sounds-2022-Bob Davis Podcast 1045 you might be missing.

Yearly Project

In addition this is a yearly project for me.

Therefore here’s a link to some of the other summer sounds podcasts I’ve done.

Usually I produce Summer Sounds podcasts in mid winter.

However I was a little delayed this year.

Mountains to Plains

For example unlike other years I’ve traveled all over the US this year collecting sounds from the mountains to the plains and back again.

Lakes

For example a drum circle in Arizona and fireworks on a Wisconsin lake.

Mountains

Or the wind more than a mile high in Colorado.

Campfires

And campfires from Montana to New Mexico.

Summer

Summer in all its glory.

No Talk

Finally I don’t talk much in Summer-Sounds-2022-Bob Davis Podcast 1045.

In short I talk at the beginning and briefly at the end.

So you won’t be jolted from your summer experience.

Constant Barrage Ends Here

And these days I think most of need to talk less!

That is to say we’re under constant barrage from media.

Telling us what happened and what’s gonna happen.

Stress Cure

Therefore our stress levels are through the roof.

Playing With Sound

To sum up I felt better just producing this podcast. Playing with sound. Discovering sounds I didn’t even know I recorded during travel this year.

Power Of Sound

In conclusion sound is powerful. It can take us down.

Or lift us up.

Further we all need a good lift right about now.

Summer Is Coming

Of course the good news is we won’t have to wait long for the real summer to come.

A Wish For Peace

Above all here’s wishing your summer to be peaceful.

Where ever you are.
