Congressman-Tom-Emmer-Part1-Bob Davis Podcast 873

Once Upon A Time…

Once upon a time in a galaxy far, my friend Tom Emmer and I had a radio show. These days Tom is a US Congressman. Join us for a the first installment reunion podcast in Congressman-Tom-Emmer-Part1-Bob Davis Podcast 873.

Looking Back…Then The Issues

At the top of the list in Part 1 are some fun stories from back in the day and then we get to the issues. After that it gets heavy as we tick off each one of the local and national issues.

It’s All About The Money

One of Emmer’s duties these days is running the republican effort for House races in the 2020 election. Most noteworthy is at least one congressman who lost his bid for reelection in 2018 blamed John McCain and ‘Green Money’ for his loss. It’s all about the money when it comes to these house races. Will there be enough in 2020? Find out in Congressman-Tom-Emmer-Part1-Bob Davis Podcast 873.

Emmer’s Reelection Bid

Moreover as the top republican congressman in the state of Minnesota, what does Emmer’s bid for reelection look like in 2020? One of the issues is whether Emmer has what it takes to disagree with President Trump. For his part, Emmer says he does. In addition he tells a story about how the president reacted to one of his recent votes.

Emmer’s Ok With Trump Being The Issue

As far as issues for 2020 are concerned, first off is the question of what it is like to run in an environment where Trump and Trump’s personality is the issue. Tom makes some predictions for the outcome of the next election that should be noted.

Impeachment Is A Dead End According To Emmer

Second, what about impeachment proceedings? Emmer condemns the democrats saying they’re fabricating evidence and not allowing elected republican officials to see evidence.

The Big Issues…Besides Trump

Even more what issues will candidates be dealing with?

On Health Insurance, Democrats are promoting Single Payer Health. How does Emmer explain the republican plan for Health Insurance Reform?

Part 1 Tees Up Part 2

In conclusion, it’s a good thing Podcasting doesn’t have breaks and you can go on as long as you want. Part 1 only tees us up for Part 2.

Flu-Shot-Or-Not-Bob Davis Podcast 870

Flu Shot Or Not

These days it’s everywhere. Moreover we have the same fight  about the flu every year. Learn more in Flu-Shot-Or-Not-Bob Davis Podcast 870.

Hear The Flu In This Podcast

You can tell as soon as you download this podcast I am just recovering from a pretty bad bout with the flu. Voice a little weak. Especially relevant is the heavy congestion.

Hate Flu Shots

First of all I don’t like getting flu shots. I’ve always felt that actually getting the virus helps your body gain a stronger immunity. In addition I also believe it gives you some immunity to future strains. The good news is you’re possibly immune to the zombie apocalypse flu. The bad news is you got the flu, right?

Beginning To Understand Why People Get Flu Shots

In contrast as I get a little older I am starting to understand why vulnerable groups are encouraged to get shots. Senior citizens, and sometimes the very young. Finally after ten plus days in a malaise, coughing constantly and having to get medications I have some thoughts to share.

Like A Hurricane

The flu is like a hurricane. You know it’s coming. The storm might glance your island or miss completely. Then again it could be a direct hit. That’s what happened to me. Hurricanes are hard to predict and so is the flu.

Viral Disease

Influenza is a viral disease. Antibiotics won’t help. Anti-viral drugs can help early on. But in the midst of the flu nobody wants to sit in a waiting room.

Respiratory Attacks

Most noteworthy? Influenza is a respiratory disease attacking ears, nose, throat and lungs.

Coffee Started Tasting Bad

Early symptoms always feel like a cold or headache.

“How did you know you were sick”, they asked me. Truth is, the coffee started tasting bad five or six days out. Then a lot of sleeping. A lot!

Recovery Awesome

Furthermore when you start recovering you feel like a million bucks! As a result you gain some clarity about life. And stuff.

Enforced Vacations

My conclusion is every now and then an enforced ‘vacation’, coupled with a physical ordeal can kind of be fun. People tell me I drive myself pretty hard and I guess I do. Getting called out of the game for a few days isn’t such a bad thing. We’ll talk about it in Flu-Shot-Or-Not-Bob Davis Podcast 870.

Loving Life

I love life. Even when it’s uphill. Those moments make the downhill moments seem even sweeter.

We can get caught in the ACTION phrase of life’s loop. When you just have to stop you learn a lot.

Flu Shot? Where’s The Fun In That?

Then again, I could have just gotten a flu shot.

Turning-Off-FB-Comments-Bob Davis Podcast 869

Turn Off The Comments

First of all if you use FaceBook for friends and family good for you. If you’re a political-social content creator, engagement through comments may not be a great idea these days. Learn more in Turning-Off-FB-Comments-Bob Davis Podcast 869.

Is It Really All About Engagement?

It’s especially relevant that social media experts tell businesses to seek out what they call ‘engagement’. Likes. Shares. Especially comments.

Political Social Content Creators Beware

These are great suggestions for wilderness guide services or seamstresses and hardware stores.

In contrast for content creators in the political and social sphere comments can be a huge problem. Listeners and subscribers know I have long had my issues with social media. Especially my favorite whipping boy FaceBook.

Take Action

After years of struggling with abusive, bullying and ignorant comments on my FaceBook business page I recently took action.

Unique Challenges

Content creators in the political arena have unique challenges when it comes to engagement. Especially on FaceBook. It’s time to talk about doing something about trolls, bullies and ignoramuses.

How’s Your Feeds?

Has suppressing comments on my page had a negative effect on engagement on my website or on my feeds? Learn more in Turning-Off-FB-Comments-Bob Davis Podcast 869.

My Way Or The Highway

Moreover is this a free speech issue? I say when it comes to social media pages, your role as an administrator of your page takes precedence. It’s your way, or the highway.

What Kind Of Engagement Do You Want?

Certainly I talked to advertising and social media experts before making this decision. In the end it comes down to what kind of engagement the creator wants. Do you want clicks to your website or more FaceBook likes.

No Snark Zone

Even more, users seldom bother to read, watch or listen to content. In contrast they don’t seem to have any problem dishing the snark on the content they didn’t read, watch or listen to, anyway.

Lock It Down

What does a creator do? I’ve decided to make commenting on my pages very difficult unless I know you personally.

We Have To Solve This Problem

Seems like it’s necessary to point out – again – that social media has become a fertile ground for manipulating the masses.

New laws and breaking up the social media giants won’t solve this.

We have to.
