D-Day’s-75th-WW2-Significance-Bob Davis Podcast 838

Highly Significant

I think World War Two might have been the most significant historic event in more than the last two hundred years. These days people don’t think or talk much about the second world war, but we’re living in the world created by it. Learn more in D-Day’s-75th-WW2-Significance-Bob Davis Podcast 838.

Father’s and Grandfather’s War

Like most kids growing up in the 70’s World War 2 was our father’s war. Our grandfather’s war.

Certainly World War 2 was historic. Almost every American family has stories from that war. Family members who served. Army Air Force, Marines, Army and Navy or Coast Guard. The stories fade a little more every year, as our fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers, mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers fade too. Inevitably, the significance of that war gets lost in time.

When Everything Changed

What’s most noteworthy is the structure of the world today is the result of World War 2. Especially relevant to this podcast is this. The world that preceded the start of the war in 1939 is gone. The life Americans knew before the war, was obliterated by it. Learn more in D-Day’s-75th-WW2-Significance-Bob Davis Podcast 838.

Governments Run Amok

When I was growing up we’d go to the army surplus store in Hammond, Indiana. We’d pick through the boots, jackets, and tanker goggles. Whenever we could we watched all the black and white movies. ‘The Longest Day‘, ‘The Sands of Iwo Jima‘, ‘They Were Expendable‘ and many others. Those movies miss or gloss over mistakes governments made that got us into that war.

Gold Star Windows Up and Down the Block

I am old enough to remember the faded gold stars in the windows of the old ladies on the block, who’s sons never came home. Some were from the Korean and Vietnam wars, but many were still there from World War 2. They were the most faded.

How Could They Have Survived Omaha Beach?

In addition I am lucky enough to have been to Normandy, and of course, Omaha Beach. I have two takeaways. That hill is close to the water and very steep, and I wonder how anyone could have survived crawling up under fire the morning of June 6th, 1944.

They Didn’t Talk About It…They Did It

In conclusion we don’t think about the war that changed the world. Forever.

These days there’s a lot of talk about making the world a better place.

Those who fought that war, actually did.

Plan Beats No Plan-Bob Davis Podcast 828

Political Winners Need A Plan

The 2020 presidential campaign is already underway. Democrats are already touting their plans from free health care to free college. Thing is, a plan beats no plan when it comes to politics these days. We’ll talk about it in Plan Beats No Plan-Bob Davis Podcast 828.

Calling Someone A Socialist Is Not A Plan

Certainly this week attention has been focused on the president’s statements regarding unions. Meanwhile lesser known state and local ‘conservative’ republicans attack democrats for being ‘socialist’.

The US Is Already Socialist

Especially relevant is whether this approach will work.

Come to think of it, doesn’t the United States increasingly have a “controlled market economy” meaning the government already ‘controls the means of production’?

Trade Protection and Government Built Infrastructure – Capitalist right?

Moreover President Trump touts trade protection, and lately government appropriation of 5G wireless technology. It’s also a republican president pushing for ‘infrastructure’ development. Republicans even have their own ‘Single Payer‘ health plan where big insurance companies implement the federal program. This is capitalism? Learn more in Plan Beats No Plan-Bob Davis Podcast 828.

…People In Glass Houses

State republican representatives and senators who are real estate agents, housing developers, doctors and lawyers find themselves voting for ‘socialist’ ideas from MAO Clinic funding to laws regarding how you use your cell phone while driving.

Moreover from TR to Trump, republicans have been advocating for ‘progressive’ and socialist policies. Would you believe German Socialists actually supported Abraham Lincoln back in the day?

GOP Voters Hate Democratic Socialists But Don’t Take Their Social Security Away

In addition rank and file republican voters rely on government pensions, social security, ObamaCare, Medicare, Veterans Benefits and all kinds of tax breaks for their businesses. Good republican ‘capitalists’ take every legal tax benefit they can get from real estate to Tesla’s in the driveway. Rural farmers who voted for Trump love their subsidies. But socialism? God no!

Capitalism Is Radical

Seems to me that a real Capitalist Agenda would be seen as quite radical these days. Most Americans haven’t experienced true Capitalism. The means of production, from stock trades to light rail, have indeed been controlled by local, state and federal governments for a long time.

Where’s The Plan, Stan

Finally if republicans are against socialism they’d better get busy designing a capitalist plan.

Name Calling and MAGA

In conclusion, sadly a republican capitalist plan will never emerge. Much easier to call democrats socialists and shout ‘build the wall’.

That’s a plan, right?

Gen Z-Millennials-Brave New World-Bob Davis Podcast 798

Recent polls show solid support for socialism by Generation Z and Millennial Americans. Especially relevant is whether today’s ‘conservatives’ have the arguments against socialism. Find out in Gen Z-Millennials-Brave New World-Bob Davis Podcast 798. (Editor’s Note: The title of this podcast was Gen Z-Millennials-Prefer Socialism-Bob Davis Podcast 798 but had to be changed to meet FaceBook’s nonsensical, arbitrary and otherwise byzantine standards for commentary and journalism they think is a political ad. Speaking of a Brave New World!)

Strong Support For New Ideas

First of All, young Americans support for single payer health insurance. They like the idea of free college. Moreover there’s also support for federal job guarantees.

Voting Democrat

Also younger adults voted for democrats 2018 which helped hand President Trump a stinging defeat.

Shock

In contrast Older Americans are shocked. Why? Learn more in Gen Z-Millennials-Brave New World-Bob Davis Podcast 798.

Socialist Definitions

First of all, start with defining socialism.

Is There An Argument In The House?

Consequently, if you’re against socialism, what are the arguments in favor of capitalism?

Party Of Thinkers Has Become The Party of Red Faced Sputtering

Conservatives used to say they were the ‘thinkers’. Certainly democrats were ’emotional’ and had ‘no plan’. These days it seems like the shoe’s on the other foot.

A Plan Beats No Plan

Even more, democrats seem to have an awful lot of ideas backed up by academics. Policy details about new ideas like the Modern Monetary Theory and Universal Basic Income, or Open Borders, are part of their plan for the future. What’s the republican plan?

GOP Failing

Republicans have failed to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The GOP has increased spending and increased the deficit after complaining about deficits during the Obama years.

Republicans who were furious at President Obama’s “I have a pen and a phone” taunt applaud President Trump for using executive power to govern. And republicans are only too happy to support this kind of executive overreach.

Lack Of Principles

As a result one wonders whether republicans anywhere have arguments against socialism beyond pointing to Venezuela’s crisis and name calling. This will not do in 2020. You can’t grow a party without principles.

Laying Down And Letting Someone Else Make The Arguments

In conclusion I have often said there’s too much advocacy media. Republicans are only too willing to lay down while someone else grandstands or calls names, plays tricks and makes their arguments for them. Sadly, republicans are obsessed with ‘messaging’ while their children and grandchildren are socialists.
