Close To Home

Moreover I always wonder why breakdowns happen close to home. On this 8 state tour of the Mid Southern and Midwestern states I have traveled more than three thousand miles. Almost all back roads.

Now, less than two hundred miles from home, it’s an alternator.

Even more Mobile Podcast Command has two alternators and three batteries. For more than a hundred miles it ran until it sucked power from all its batteries.

Cover A Lot Of Ground

I cover a lot of ground when I travel. Driving 12 hours a day. Hence my drive to make it home.

Flashers

When it all goes down, I am left with barely enough for flashers.

Give Thanks

First of all while I am on the side of the road I remember to give thanks I am still alive. One time I came close to not being alive because of a breakdown by the side of the road.

Look For The Lessons

What’s the lesson here? Above all it’s important to know when a problem is serious enough to stop in a town and wait for service.

Stop and Smell The Weeds

On the other hand I got to meet some great people from HABHAB towing in Ames, Iowa and State Farm Insurance. In addition I got to stop and smell the roses. Or, in this case prairie grass and weeds.

Life On The Road

Finally I follow a lot of people doing with van life thing. Living on the road in a converted school bus or whatever. Most of the time Instagram and Facebook posts make it look like a blast.

Unpredictable and Without Warning

Truth is, almost all of us out here encounter set backs and breakdowns, usually unpredictable and without warning. Doesn’t matter if you checked everything out before you left, you’re still going to have unpredictable problems.

Smile

In conclusion I’ve learned to bear it all with a smile and to be grateful for the opportunity to learn something.

Even if you’re by the side of the road in the middle of the night.

Eight Hundred Podcasts

First of all after eight hundred podcasts I’ve done just about every crazy idea I can think of. I have never had a problem creating content or finding things to talk about. It is a creative challenge to come up with fresh ideas and venues for each podcast. Something I take very seriously. Here’s the Dillinger Podcast. And, here’s the Bonnie and Clyde Podcast.

Content Creators Business Challenge

Especially relevant for podcasters is the business challenge we face as independent content creators. Sure, if you’re famous there’s plenty of cash and help to put up a successful podcast.

Finally there have been a lot of changes at the Bob Davis Podcasts since the first podcast. The blog page is a full strength resource with blogs and links to my research for every podcast. Moreover I have committed myself to refusing to endorse, or fight for a point of view when it comes to politics.

No Shouting

In conclusion I find the social implications of policy far more interesting than joining the crowd shouting at listeners and subscribers about what they should believe and what they ‘should’ do. Do whatever you want. Believe what you will and more power to you!

Future Fun

Partisan Coverage Is Killing Us

The heavily partisan nature of media these days has been a theme in these podcasts. I spent some time on my own website the other day and what I found surprised me. Much of it was prescient or oddly predictive.

No Predictions

Now, I can’t stand political commentators that try to predict outcomes. I actually try to avoid predicting outcomes. Thing is, when a person travels thousands of miles on backroads across this country as I have, there’s a huge takeaway. Or, reading the tax bill to breaking down all the toss up House and Senate races, I don’t tell you what to think or who to vote for. I give you the lay of the land and let you make your own judgements.

Not Just Politics

In conclusion there are many more insights that come from travel and detailed study that have nothing to do with politics and they are in these podcasts too. I’ve focused on the political stuff in this podcast for the junkies out there, but anyone can use the search window and other features to find podcasts about life in general.
