Vanlife-Nomad-Backlash-Bob Davis Podcast 980

VanLife Nomad Backlash

Suddenly there’s a Vanlife Nomad Backlash. Certainly it’s fun to be free and living out on the road. What’s the problem? My reaction in Vanlife-Nomad-Backlash-Bob Davis Podcast 980.

Full Commitment

Firstly I’ve just recently made a full commitment to living on the road. Learn more about that here.

Extended Travel

Secondly extended travel has been a part of these podcasts since the beginning.

Social Media…Again

However recently some have taken issue with some over the top social media accounts.

Hollywood Has Discovered The Modern Nomad

To clarify reporters and Hollywood have suddenly discovered the nomad trend.

Blame It On Instagram

As a result it seems like detractors want to attack the whole lifestyle as ‘fake’ because of a few over the top Instagram accounts.

Not For Everyone

Meanwhile my experience has been it’s not a lifestyle for everyone.

Demanding And Tough

In fact the nomad lifestyle can be demanding and tough but be very rewarding at the same time.

Nomad Life Is Hardscrabble

In the same vein I haven’t met too many nomads driving around in vehicles costing at least six figures.

The Majesty Of A Walmart Parking Lot

For example a nomad might experience the majesty of a campground in a national forest one week. And the majesty of a Walmart or Truck Stop lot the next.

Adventure and Fun

To sum up it’s not always glamorous. But it’s always an adventure.

Back Out On The Back Road

Most importantly while I am stuck in a driveway in Virginia as we deal with a death in the family I can’t wait to get back on the back road.

Real Experience

In Vanlife-Nomad-Backlash-Bob Davis Podcast 980 it’s time to talk about the real experiences I have had as a newly minted ‘nomad’. And most importantly the depth of those experiences.

Family and Friends

Even more I realize many nomads are interrupting trips with long stays with family and friends. Why? Because we can.

So What?

On the other hand. Who can blame us?

Shore Power and A Hot Shower

After months of taking showers in truck stops and cooking over campfires, shore power and a hot shower at ‘home’ are pure luxury.

All About The Vibe

Most importantly is the reality of a true positive vibe that comes from travel in any form.

Doesn’t Matter What Rig You Have

Whether you’re rig is a broken down conversion or a Prevost, you’ve experienced that vibe.

No Commitments

Finally, think about travel without commitments. And going where you want. Just plain fun.

Many People Hitting The Road

In conclusion it’s true there are many people hitting the road for various reasons. As a result the nomad lifestyle and Vanlife have become a trend.

Tear Down Something Just Because Lots Of People Are Doing It

Why is it necessary to attack and tear something down just because a lot of people are doing it?

Shore Power! Live from the Mobile Podcast Command Unit 8, now with Shore Power! As the power issue begins to resolve on Unit 8, we’re able to produce studio quality podcasts from the road … and try out the new coffee maker. Since everything now is powered up, that means the printer works and that means getting back into the news flow. The big story we’re watching is still the negotiations with Iran. Reportedly the US and the 5 (or 6) nations negotiating with Iran will sign a 3 page letter, after which economic sanctions will be lifted. But, it is also reported that Iran will be able to continue enriching uranium, and could be on a one-year path to having a nuclear weapon. Depending on who you read, or talk to, economic sanctions either worked, or didn’t. Considering the fact that Iran seems to be getting the best of the west, and especially the Obama administration in these negotiations, this looks like a major win for them. It also gives President Obama a ‘feather in his cap’ toward his legacy. Will an agreement with Iran produce long term problems in the middle east? Is this a good deal? Also percolating is the hysteria about Indiana’s new ‘religious freedom’ law. And, back in the Twin Cities (Editor’s Note: Remember I am in Scottsdale, Arizona right now) them fight over what the state pays commissioners and other ‘important’ state government functionaries continues. Meanwhile despite all the talk about millennials moving into hip downtown sections of decaying northern cities, new census data shows people moving to less dense suburban cities. How does this trend counter the standard sell of Light Rail, walkable cities, and downtown venues subsidized by taxpayers? The chair of the Met Council wasn’t supposed to get a 5 figure raise (from 61 thousand a year to 120+) but apparently he has. “It’s a full time job”, say those ‘in the know’, not a part time job. A part time job for 61 thousand a year? Nice. Getting a raise that almost doubles your pay, for any reason. Priceless. In any case, another example of a chief executive that simply ignore the legislature, whether it’s republican, or democrat. And about 100 residents of a Minnetonka apartment complex is suing the hated Met Council to stop the Southwest Light Rail. They say the train will ruin the peaceful atmosphere for biking and hiking behind the complex. What ruins LRT? That is the question. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing and Heating and Baklund R&D.

Summertime in Scottsdale. At least that it was feels like if you’re from the upper midwest, for Arizonans this is just the beginning of the heat, but it sure feels good to a boy from the Midwest, after winter. The second of two podcasts for your Wednesday from the Shore Powered Mobile Podcast Command Unit 8. From time to time its a good idea to just sit down in the studio and wing it. Sometimes a lot of effort goes into doing podcasts that are news, or topic oriented. March was a taxing month for The Bob Davis Podcasts, as we cold hardly wait to get our hot little hands on the brand new remote broadcast truck. Response has been great and as capabilities are brought up to speed, the podcasts are going to become more and more fun. In this podcast, a behind the scenes look at the struggle to get Unit 8 up and running through the month and get on the road, before having to return before April 25th, when Bob Davis is scheduled to speak to the SD48 Republicans at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. We may roll up the night before, fresh from Cali, and camp out at the theater, preparing for the big speech. Actually a lot of good discussion in this podcast about work ethic, how we learn to work, and how we work. And a lesson in patience for Bob Davis. And, an opportunity for sponsorships of the Remote Podcast Command Unit 8. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing of Saint Paul.
