If you’re running for office, or working for someone running for office, regardless of party affiliation, you’re walking in parades, driving in parades, or handing out literature at parades all over your district, and you’ll be doing so until right around State Fair time in the land of ten thousand lakes. The Panorama of Progress parade in Lakeville dates back to 1967. Lakeville is in the heart of Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District where a big political fight is brewing. It isn’t a fight between republicans and democrats, but a fight between republicans. Four candidates are vying for the seat being vacated by the retirement of Congressman John Kline. The trouble started before the CD2 Endorsing convention when Kline endorsed Darlene Miller instead of Jason Lewis. Some believe Kline’s problem stems from comments made by Jason Lewis on The Bob Davis Podcasts regarding Iran and US Foreign Policy. I would urge critics to actually listen to what Lewis said by searching ‘Jason Lewis’ in the search window on my website (thebobdavispodcasts.com) rather than using liner notes or taking the so called party line. As it pertains to foreign policy, I have said many times, it’s going to take independent and thoughtful congressmen, senators, presidents, career diplomats, defense and foreign policy experts to develop a new foreign policy for the United States. The old plug-and-play approach to foreign policy, or the best of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s strategies isn’t going to work in a multi-polar world. Military commitments have to be considered in the light of what the knock-on effects of those interventions might mean, something our government really didn’t do very well when the US invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Some might argue, this is the root of what ruined the GOP’s chance to succeed George W Bush, or to limit Barack Obama to one term. In the aftermath of the Ron Paul revolution in republican politics, as well as wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the development of ISIS, the Arab Spring, Syria, emerging economies, China and Russia, we need a new approach to defense and foreign policy. The problem is, as I have said, foreign policy doesn’t come out of a can. Podcast 520-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-33. Heading into the the US Independence Day Holiday. The British Exit Vote Fallout and the potential for a Black Swan event are covered extensively in Podcast 520-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-33 with new original content and excerpts from this week’s podcasts. Oddly enough the ‘mother country’, Great Britain, declared her own independence with the vote to exit the Euro Zone just over a week ago. In an echo of British reaction to the colonies’ declaration of independence in 1776, the unelected suzerains of the European Union were first shocked, then angry. Media reaction to the British vote shifted from hysterical to hostile. Let’s not forget that coverage of the vote did not detail the contours of the issue. There was very little reporting, before the vote, on which trade agreements the UK has with the EU might be effected, the fact that the vote is not binding, or how the UK might invoke the Lisbon Treaty in preparation for an exit. On the business side of the equation, all Americans heard was that the markets were crashing and it would be the end of the world, financially speaking. Slightly more than a week later, markets are recovering as buying opportunities abound. Here’s another example of a situation where the media fails to cover an event, other than to ‘predict’ the outcome of a vote, and then loses its head once an outcome it did not predict, occurs. In this review of the week’s podcast and the week’s news, two segments are devoted to reaction to the British Vote and what it might mean. Some Americans might be surprised to learn that the implications of the British vote aren’t limited just to the UK, but also include countries and people everywhere that feel the heavy weight of government on their backs. A ‘government’ always there to cure all that ails us, never has to explain its incompetence. Maybe this is what voters in Britain might be saying. With all the shouting and screaming and pounding, the telling you want to think, how to act and what you ‘should’ and ‘should not’ do, it might be a good time to take stock and spend some time with your family. How many people have this feeling that another shoe is about to drop. What is the possibility of a Black Swan Event? An historic event with the power to influence politics and society far into the future? Despite all the conspiracy theories about the people in charge maybe the truth is, they really don’t have a clue what they’re doing which is actually pretty frightening? So enjoy your burgers and beer, pretzels and family. If we are on the verge of a major event, we’ll look back on the summer of 2016 as that moment in time before everything changed.

Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31. This week’s edition of the radio show, now heard Sunday’s at 4PM on AM1280 The Patriot in Minneapolis and Saint Paul with new affiliates as we get them through the syndicator, GCNLIVE.com. This is a great review of the week, with some new content for the radio show that hasn’t been in the podcasts. The mission of this show is to bring content from the podcasts back to the radio. This week – in podcast time – has been a difficult week, in the wake of the Orlando Terror Attack. The social and political debate has followed the path I predicted last Sunday night. Gun Control advocates on one side, people who think the failure is the President’s and it is because he refuses to use the term Radical Islam to describe the enemies of the United States. Again predictably, the same lines of argument played out in Congress, and across the board in the media. Most of what happened this week has been useless in protecting Americans from potential ‘lone wolf’ terrorists, and the fact is, little will be done as we have a presidential election, and then the inauguration of a new president and congress in January of next year. It will take time for the new president and congress to grapple with these issues, and form new policy ideas and formulate plans to ‘deal’ with whatever the problem is. The fact that the argument follows predictable pathways is as depressing as the event itself. We’ll change the energy a little bit in Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31, to talk about creativity, business and being an entrepreneur. If you listened to Podcast 513 it will be amusing to listen to the edited version of that podcast for the final segment of Podcast 514-Bob Davis Podcasts Radio Show-31, because it is edited for radio station programmers and owners, slightly softening some of the harshest criticism of the radio business heard in Podcast 513. Still, some of the points are applicable to any American business institution these days, whether it is corporate America, or even some elements of politics.
