Government Shut Down Aversion Diversion-Happy Days Here Again-Podcast 695

The shouts. Screams. Lamentations. Analysis on the battle of the century! A government shutdown that lasted half a working day turned into a national hysteria in Government Shut Down Aversion Diversion-Happy Days Here Again-Podcast 695.

Aversion That Turned To Diversion

Especially relevant is the fact that with all the commentary about the pain and suffering from all sides of the so called political divide, adding to the melee would be spitting into the wind. Now that the great shutdown of 2018 is over, we can talk about how silly it was.

Thank God For Football Playoff Games

These days I wonder if there is any better proof of a national delusion than an entire weekend of screaming, shouting and worthless details about the shutdown that wasn’t. Furthermore the details about the numbers of federal employees in each state left penniless and wandering through the streets. In Government Shut Down Aversion Diversion-Happy Days Here Again-Podcast 695.

Surprise! Both Sides Blame Each Other

Democrats sniffed this was the ‘first time in history a party in control of all three branches of government shut it down‘. The week before the House voted to keep the government open on a straight party vote with no democrats on board.

In the Senate, shockingly some democrats voted for the continuing resolution and some republicans against it. Finally while the White House labeled this the ‘Chuck Schumer Shut Down‘ and Senator Schumer called it ‘The Trump Shutdown’, it was pretty much business as usual in Washington DC. Find out why in Government Shut Down Aversion Diversion-Happy Days Here Again-Podcast 695.

Guess What? This Is How Government Actually Works

The stumbling blocks? A house version that allowed so called ‘Dreamers’ to stay in the US, and bring additional family members for one. The Children’s Health Insurance Program for another. In conclusion, there is the issue of additional spending in a continuing resolution rather than a straight up budget bill.

Get Over It…Even JFK Used Foul Language

In the end the president got what he wanted. The immigration legislation will be taken up separately at a later date. What about the shock of a president allegedly using strong language? This podcast has audio of three former presidents using very foul language on issues ranging from military spending to a type of slacks preferred. Listen for it in Government Shut Down Aversion Diversion-Happy Days Here Again-Podcast 695.

Say Goodbye To Rugged Individualism

Finally, this whole episode makes on fact painfully clear. The famous rugged and self sufficient American doesn’t exist. The businessman and farmer are just as dependent on those checks from the government as any welfare queen. Threaten to turn it off and we’re thrown into fits.

Donald Trump’s Fantastic Incredible Awesome Rhetorical Presidency-Podcast 620

Foreign Policy Based On Cable News and Twitter

Wars. Rumors of wars. In Donald Trump’s Fantastic Incredible Awesome Rhetorical Presidency-Podcast 620 Trump breaks another promise. Remember 2013? That’s when Trump said Obama should forget about Syria. Save his powder for something more important. In the debates, then candidate Trump said the same thing. Leave Syria alone. We’ll get nothing out of attacking Assad.

Trump Fine With Assad Until…

At the end of March Senators McCain and Graham were pleading to attack Assad. However as late as last week Nikki Haley was telling her UN Counterparts and the world Assad could stay. Then came the chemical attack on Syrian civilians. Children. Pictures on cable news. President Trump saw the pictures and got mad.

Cable News Made President Mad

As Trump and his team met with the Chinese at his resort in Florida, he ordered a counterstrike. 59 missiles. 70 million dollars. The runway where the planes took off is still intact. Syrian military aviation continues to fly sorties from that runway. On a dime this president has changed US foreign policy. Changed one of the cornerstones of his campaign. Another major promise broken.

North Korea Too

Over the weekend the USS Carl Vinson Strike Force was detailed to the Western Pacific. Off the Korean Peninsula. Suddenly Donald Trump has become George W. Bush. If you voted for Trump is this what you voted for? We’re a long way from building the wall and getting China to send all those jobs back now, Toto.

Alt Right Deeply Misinformed

Then there are the rumors. The bad reporting. The discourse on social media. One hundred fifty thousand US troops to Syria? Says so right here. China deploying another one hundred fifty thousand of their troops to the Yalu river, China’s border with North Korea. Russia and Iran say they’ll respond if there are any more US attacks. Word is the Russian Navy is very busy in Europe. More activity than the cold war.

How About Those Twins?

Voters who didn’t want to talk about foreign policy because it was too complicated might want to bone up. TV producers and Radio Program directors and talk show hosts may want to drop the banter about sports and the weather. Republicans should take a look at the bargain they made with this president and ask themselves just what they bought and must now defend.

Trust Me. It’s Gonna Be Great

Welcome to Donald Trump’s Fantastic Incredible Awesome Rhetorical Presidency-Podcast 620. Tax Reform, a trillion dollar stimulus program and another run at repealing ObamaCare loom. The US is twenty trillion dollars in debt. On top of that, perhaps a war in Syria he campaigned against and a crisis in North Korea. Don’t worry though. The president will tweet about it. Foreign Affairs crisis? Bah. More tweets. In Donald Trump’s Fantastic Incredible Awesome Rhetorical Presidency-Podcast 620.

(Editor’s Note: Late Tuesday the President told the New York Post, “We are not going into Syria”, and blamed the confusion on his ‘aides’. Which would be his ambassador to the UN among other fairly senior administration personnel. Oddly enough regime change remains a new goal. He also said, “We’re sending an armada” to North Korea. Rhetorical Presidency indeed.)

Podcast 445

The Highway Song. As the media cycle repeats on an endless loop, boredom begins to set in. How many more arguments do you want to hear about Donald Trump being Hitler, or Ted Cruz being Ted Cruz, or Hillary Clinton and Benghazi? There is a real world waiting to be experienced. Not the make believe world the media’s twenty four hour a day obsession with American politics seems to be showing us. When there’s a new wrinkle, the Bob Davis Podcasts will break in with an update. Meanwhile this podcast asks, is travel an escape from reality or is travel reality and our lives are an escape from travel? A walk and talk through a ‘warm’ early December evening is designed to stir your memories of travel and your wanderlust. Where have you gone? Where would you like to go? Why? When did you first experience a sense of wonder as you traveled to new places? Was it a road trip with the parents? A first flight to some exotic location in the islands? A ski trip in the mountains? A road trip, with college friends, back in the day? What cities have you visited? Where would you like to visit? New York City? Chicago? New Orleans? San Francisco? Las Vegas? For me its all about the road trip. As I prepare for the big Mobile Podcast Command Winter ’16 trip to Iowa for the caucuses, then onto the mid south, and the eastern seaboard through the North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas, my mind turns to the things I see and learn through the screen … the windscreen that is. There’s nothing better for the soul. Sponsored by Ryan Plumbing and Heating of Saint Paul and X Government Trucks
