No-News-Is-News-Bob Davis Podcast 953

No News IS News

These days the first thing to know is no news, IS the news. We’ll talk about it in No-News-Is-News-Bob Davis Podcast 953.

Objective Sources?

Most important for this walk and talk podcast is that some people think there are still ‘objective sources’.

Podcast Integration

First of I do walk and talk podcasts for a reason. These freewheeling podcasts are my way of integrating the ‘heavier’ podcasts I’ve done recently.

Therapy

Walking and Talking is therapy for me.

Weirdest Election Ever

Secondly we’re less than 60 days away from what is sure to be one of the weirdest US elections in memory.

Poorly Served

As a result of walking and talking I hit upon the idea we’re still being poorly served by all kinds of media in this country.

Lies are Truth…Truth Is A Lie

Even more is the question of where people turn when the intent of every source is to convince, manipulate or spread lies as ‘truth’.

Pundits Addicted To Predicting

Above all my focus lately has been reporting on political polls. In No-News-Is-News-Bob Davis Podcast 953 I take a few shots at the so called pundits and their predictions.

Rediscovering The Battleground States

Certainly the media has recently rediscovered the so called ‘battleground states’. In recent elections, mostly located in the central US.

Bob Davis Podcasts Has Been In The Battlegrounds All Along

We’ve been discussing the battleground state polls exclusively since 2019. In addition, most of the media aren’t reporting those polls properly currently.

National Polls and Manipulation

Above all this is the place to get analysis on key state polls without the partisanship. In addition I don’t make predictions and I don’t care who ‘wins’ this election.

Realignment

Finally as I think we’re in the midst of a political and social realignment. No one can tell you where that’s going to end up.

Something IS Wrong

For instance the feeling we all have something is wrong but we just can’t put our finger on what it is.

Walking Through A Late Summer Night

To sum up it’s always better to walk through a still late summer night and talk these things out.

That’s what a walk and talk is all about.

(Editor’s Note: I hate it when I have to do corrections, but this was a big mistake, so…Mentioned a Real Clear Politics metric which compares 2016 averages to 2020 averages between Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers then to Joe Biden’s now. I reversed those numbers. Biden is running about one point ahead of Clinton in the top battleground states and substantially better than the former Secretary of State in other metrics. However this doesn’t change how close the polls are overall in the battleground states. But given that I reversed the numbers, the analysis that Biden is running behind Clinton doesn’t work. All the more reason not to do analysis of the polls on the run in a walk and talk podcast.)

Midnight Lake Walk and Talk

These days I hate to say it but the election campaigns are shifting into high gear. I’ve been touring the upper Midwest and needed more time by the lake. Learn more in Midnight-Lake-Walk-And-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 948.

Political Takeaways From My Recent Road Trip

Certainly my road trip to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and West Coast was for fun. However I saw some things from a political perspective that are worth mentioning.

Politics Losing Its Luster

Most importantly when you’re doing a road trip podcast the political stuff loses it’s luster.

Stumbling Through Woods and The Shore

Therefore I decided to put my observations into another podcast. So join me as I stumble around the lake shore and woods in Midnight-Lake-Walk-And-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 948.

Here Comes The Campaign

When this week is over the 2020 election campaign will be in full swing.

No Predictions

In addition to the recent podcasts I’ve done about polling I examine this issue of ‘predicting the future’.

Questions About What We’re Being Told

Even more my quick tour through the traditionally democrat and union parts of the Upper Midwest yields some questions about what you are being told these days.

Far From Decided

I was one of the first who noted that Trump could win in 2016. My analysis of the polls so far as well as some detail gleaned from these trips suggest this election is far from decided yet.

Calm Waters Starlight

Finally there’s something about the calm waters and starlight of a late summer midnight.

Put On Your Headphones

If you listen to this podcast with headphones you’ll be right there with me as I walk barefoot. In the dark. Avoiding acorns and other debris. From the fire to the lake and back.

Media and Campaigns Preaching To The Choir

To sum up despite the media’s penchant for predicting the future and preaching to the choir this is not over.

Suddenly A Literal Three Day TV Commercial Is News?

Most importantly think about the irony of how the media covers conventions which used to be deliberative. What is now news is essentially and literally a produced television commercial.

Either Way People Are Gonna Vote

Even so people are going to make up their minds and cast votes in some way in November.

Beware The Deep Impact…Of An Asteroid!

Unless an asteroid produces a deep impact event, just before the election on November 3rd.

Great Summer Road Trip To Michigan

These days taking a long road trip is pretty much out of the question. But a short road trip from Minnesota to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and West Coast is perfect. Learn more in Late-Summer-Michigan-Road-Trip-Bob Davis Podcast 947.

You’ve Never Been?

First of all when I told friends I was headed to the Midwest’s ‘West Coast’ people said, “You’ve never been?”

Second as a Chicagoan I’d been to Benton Harbor and the Indiana Dunes, right?

The West Coast

However not on up Michigan’s West Coast.

The Upper Peninsula

I’d certainly been to the Upper Peninsula. But I haven’t spent much time there.

Wow

I’ll just say it. Wow.

I Want To Go Back…In The Winter!

More importantly, I think it is one of the best places to visit in the summer. So much so, I want to go back in the winter!

Not Big On Travelog Podcasts

Above all I am not one for travelog podcasts. Every bend in the highway is chronicled. Routes and places to stay talked about and so on.

The Routes

I can tell you about Wisconsin 77 connecting to Ashland County GG, and ultimately 77 all the way to Ironwood, Michigan.

Some Of The Campgrounds

Even more the Alpine Campground near Ironwood, or US 20 to US 41all the way to Marquette, Michigan. Then all the way across to Michigan 123 on down to the magnificent Mackinac Bridge.

But It’s The History That Gets Me

Then most importantly the great maritime towns along Michigan’s Lake Michigan coast from Petoskey to Charlavoix on down to Traverse City, Manistee and all the way to Ludington.

The SS Badger Is The Cherry On Top

Finally  the cherry on top for me was the four hour ferry ride on the SS Badger the only steam powered boat on the lake these days, and the last remaining rail ferry.

The Old Industrial Midwest

I am product of the old industrial Midwest.

Factories, Farms, Railroads, Mines and Lakes

My home is a heartland of factories and mines. I can’t forget the farms and train yards.

Won’t Forget Working Class History

I won’t forget the working class history here.

Still An Industrial Powerhouse

Likewise I have to point out this area remains one of the world’s most powerful industrial regions.

Travel Is All About Learning

To sum up what gets me about this kind of travel is the history.

Plenty of that in this podcast.
