Podcast 467 – Rick Barry

Rick Barry. One of the all time NBA greats joins the Bob Davis Podcasts live from South Carolina. It may be a bit of a departure for me to talk about sports, but really it’s Rick talking about sports, and so much more. For some the campaign trail is endlessly exciting, but when you see the same thing over and over again in produced events and stump speeches, a departure helps with campaign fatigue. Rick Barry also helps transition the podcasts into the travel/adventure part of this trip, as we prepare to head down to the Florida Keys. Barry’s emphasis on preparation and the basics of the game helped him become a Hall of Fame basketball star, playing in the ABA and the NBA. His experience informs his positions on the game and the league today as well as a good portion of this podcast spent on politics. Rick is a no nonsense guy when it comes to his experience and knowledge of the game. His opinions about talk radio are particularly enlightening, when considering callers as well as hosts. Then onto some trivia. Why did Barry shoot an underhanded free throw? Why did Wilt Chamberlain stop shooting this way? How did Rick learn to shoot this way? He talks about his father, a semi pro player and coach, and his values. I think this is a great lesson for anyone trying attempting to fulfill their God given talents in almost anyway. I learned a lot talking to Rick Barry, and we come from completely different worlds. The first thing I said to him was, “I hope you aren’t offended, I don’t know anything about sports.” I don’t think he was too impressed (LOL). Barry is known as one of the most opinion players in the NBA and he doesn’t disappoint in this podcast. ‘t any case it is a great sit with a legend who shares my passion concerning Hydrus. And…if I don’t say so myself it’s hard to believe you can do a mobile podcast from a truck, and it sounds like the studio. Thank you Rick for taking the time to do the interview and to meet me. It was a pleasure. Also sponsored by Pride of Homes and Luke Team Real Estate.

Podcast 458

Not George Washington. With the Iowa Caucuses less than a week away, political prognosticators have finally gone off the rails. This week’s poster child for idiocy goes to the talk show host who claims Texas Senator Ted Cruz is ‘The New George Washington’. How is the ‘endorsement’ of candidates from personalities, talk show hosts and commentators different from endorsements that come from governors, senators and candidates who are exiting the race? How has the endorsing of candidates by talk show hosts hurt talk radio? Ted Cruz is Not George Washington, but that fact doesn’t stop charlatans from saying so. Why do they do it? It’s a desperate quest for something called ‘relevance’, which is yet another example of the talk radio cesspool. This podcast has been steadfast in not supporting any candidate for president in 2016. The penchant commentators have this year, to influence voters to support candidates based only on polling data, is shameful. Moreover, participation in primaries and caucuses is very low. The result of primaries and caucuses this spring and summer have more to do with the nominating conventions for both mainline parties than the general election. Despite this fact, talk radio and the media are already making predictions and issuing endorsements for the presidency? The victors in the first few primaries or caucuses, at least on the republican side, are usually not the nominee. The only reasonable conclusion is that commentators are manipulating their listeners and voters for their own gain; a sad feature of a presidential cycle already off the rails. You can imagine how the real election will be reported. This podcaster is not going to endorse anyone for president, since all of them are more like Nucky Thompson than anything approaching George Washington. Sunny Lohmann – Podcast 454

Sunny Lohmann. Political Humorist Sunny joins the Bob Davis Podcasts with an announcement about a new You Tube effort, plus  the top stories catching her attention. Sunny announces a new You Tube channel, details at House of Sunny TV. From the mass attack on women in Germany, by ‘Middle Eastern’ and ‘East African’ men which appears to have been coordinated, to the rancher dispute in Oregon and the occupation of a federal government wildlife facility in the middle of nowhere, Sunny’s got game. From there it’s onto Guns! Guns! Guns! The President’s executive orders on gun control and what they mean, and discussion of crime and firearm statistics. Almost all of these numbers are fertile ground for political activists and point of view journalists, as well as presidents, as witnessed by President Obama’s recent CNN ‘Town Hall’ meeting on gun control. According to Sunny, one of the things point of view researchers do is lump firearm suicides and incidents where law abiding citizens have defended themselves and property with firearms, with mass shootings. Moreover, the question of whether to include a terror incident which includes a mass shooting such as San Bernardino, with other types of mass shooting events is usually never addressed by commentators … but it is here. Do ‘conservatives’ in the United States need another enemy? Sunny and Bob react to a nationally syndicated columnist and talk show hosts call for ‘statism’ to become the ‘new philosophical enemy’ of ‘conservatives’. Sounds like another opportunity for a talk show host to sell books and to gin up more outrage. Bob and Sunny also talk about life, raising children and visits to the Golden State; California, where Sunny lives. Surprisingly enough both agree, “It’s beautiful there.” Sponsored by Pride of Homes and Luke Team Real Estate and Hydrus Performance.
