Finding Happiness In Nomad Life

Firstly can you find happiness in nomad life? Learn more about my experience in Finding-Happiness-In-Nomad-Life-Bob Davis Podcast 1003.

Big Subject

Secondly it’s a big subject for one podcast. Find more podcasts about nomad life here.

However I’ll give it a shot on a barefoot around the woods and lake.

Survival

Life used to be all about survival.

Happiness As A Life Purpose

Certainly happiness as a life purpose is a relatively new thing.

Because these days our basic survival needs are easier to address.

But survival is still the primary purpose of life in some places.

Time To Think

Finally here at the Wisconsin Base Camp there’s time to think about these ideas.

Find out my conclusions by listening to Finding-Happiness-In-Nomad-Life-Bob Davis Podcast 1003.

New Questions About Nomad Life

In addition I still get fun questions about nomad life.

For instance how long am I going to keep doing this.

And what are the negatives of nomad life.

I couldn’t really think of any.

To clarify I would say questions of time and resources play a role.

In addition how fast I need to move around the country to address a business concern.

Opportunities Not Negatives

On the other hand I take “negatives” as opportunities.

Life Lessons

There’s a life lesson there.

How do you measure happiness?

Higher Vibration

In the same vein there’s something about being unbound and unburdened that seems to promote a higher vibration.

In short these days thousands of people are refusing to return to offices.

Hitting The Road

Even more many are hitting the road.

They are chucking their old life for the promise of something new.

And we now have the tools to do it!

To sum up that’s what nomad life is all about.

Something Going On

Likewise there’s something going on with this nomad ‘thing’.

Americans are definitely more motivated to take control of their lives in a way I have not seen before.

Taking Back Our Power

Moreover we don’t have to be a nomad to take back our power.

For many it’s making the decision to continue to work from home.

Or a pretty rad cabin in the woods.

Meaning and Happiness

In short the search for happiness and meaning in life is intensifying.

Back Roads

In conclusion I find meaning on the back roads and it’s pretty great.

Farewell Boy Scouts America-Podcast 724

The Boy Scouts of America recently changed its name. The reason? Scouts USA will admit girls. These days a decision like that can kick off a firestorm of criticism. There’s even a new Christian alternative to the Boy Scouts. For my best friends and I, BSA was all about camping. We’ll talk about it in Farewell Boy Scouts America-Podcast 724.

Best Friends Like None Other

I had two best friends growing up. Both of them invited me into the Boy Scouts. The other day one of them texted me, concerned that the Boy Scouts would not admit girls. “Are you gonna do a podcast about that?”, he wondered. I said I didn’t think so. The idea of a podcast about changes in our social institutions though, stuck with me.

Summer Memories

Especially relevant is how summer brings back memories. It’s warm already in Minnesota and that makes me think about my best friends, camp outs, summer camp and fun. For us, that’s what the Boy Scouts were. So I’ll share some stories about our campouts in Farewell Boy Scouts America-Podcast 724.

Nonconformist Scoutmaster

What’s more, as I researched and thought about this podcast I realized how important our scoutmaster was to all of us. It’s not what you’d expect. Our scoutmaster and the men who watched over us were anything but conformists.

No Patience For Rules and Regulations in 1970’s America

As world war two vets, our scoutmasters weren’t about to take crap from anyone. Moreover, they didn’t have much patience for bureaucracy, rules and regulations. What they did was make sure we were safe, had a good time, and took care of each other. They also stood up for us, celebrated us and had our back. In Farewell Boy Scouts America-Podcast 724.

Changing Institutions

Most noteworthy to this podcast is the idea that institutions like the Boy Scouts are changing. Crumbling even. There’s no shortage of criticism for ‘Scouts USA’ from commentators who make sure to tell the reader they were Eagle Scouts and went on to Explorers. We didn’t. In fact we thought ‘Super Scouts’ were kind of weird.

Friends For Life

For us it was all about camping and the kind of friendship none of us will have again. I think it was that way with our scoutmasters and the fathers of the kids who came to the campouts too. For me, I don’t mind leaving it all behind and keeping those times as memories. As Stephen King once wrote, “I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus. Does anyone?”

My sentiments exactly.

Was it the Boy Scouts? Or was it us?

ADHD-Solitude-Technology-Yoga Therapy In Modern World-Podcast 718

Facebook. Twitter. Snap Chat. Social gatherings. These days it seems like we’re around people all the time. Suddenly solitude has become a ‘thing’. We’ll talk it in ADHD-Solitude-Technology-Yoga Therapy In Modern World-Podcast 718

ADHD Is The Culprit?

Moreover I’m starting to hear a lot of talk about Attention Deficit Disorder. ADHD is the culprit in almost every analysis of what’s wrong with the world. To be sure there are places where smartphones aren’t kosher. On the other hand maybe we can put the judgments on hold.

Yoga Eases The Pressure Of Modern Life

Most noteworthy is Yoga’s role in easing the pressures of modern life. I call these podcasts ‘Always A Student‘ because I am not a teacher. Naming my yoga podcasts this way also keeps me humble. They are designed to share my life experience as well as my experiences as a yoga student. Learn more in ADHD-Solitude-Technology-Yoga Therapy In Modern World-Podcast 718.

Solitude Kicks Ass

These days I prefer solitude. Life and a daily Yoga practice have taught me that I need more time to process events in my day to day. Spending time alone is a great way to process. Most of us have a lot running through our minds. An hour a day on the mat is usually the only time where we can breath and be free of the constant mental chatter.

Smart Phones On The Mat

When it comes to modern attention deficit disorder, in this free wheeling talker, I get into teacher’s reactions to smart phones in the yoga studio. I also talk about judging a younger generation. Are millennials sitting on their yoga mats finishing up the day’s emails and texts, or checking their social media feeds really all the ails the world?

No Place Better For ADHD Than The Yoga Studio

In conclusion, I think hyperactive people perceive life differently. Rather than some kind of condition to be ‘treated’, what if ADHD isn’t some kind of mutation to allow us to better use fantastic new technology. One of the cool things about being hyperactive is, we also have a great capacity for exercise.

I can’t think of a better place to enjoy being hyperactive than the yoga studio.
