Philosopher’s Stone-Quest-Dark Forest

It sure seems like we’re in a dream these days. More importantly, if you create content about current events it gets more surreal by the day. Learn more in Philosopher’s Stone-Quest-Dark Forest, Bob Davis Podcast 806.

Dreams or A Nightmares?

First of all I was going to do this podcast about dreams. Then I thought more about what is really bothering me these days. It is the sense that nothing seems real anymore. Rumors. Labels. Innuendo. Scapegoats. Lies.

A Dreamlike Dark Forest

Furthermore it feels like we’re all stumbling through a dark forest. Hence there’s no sense of where we are or how to get out. Moreover there’s a dreamlike quality to what passes for current events.

Using The Metaphor of The Philosopher’s Stone

Why not talk about the practice of Alchemy and the search for the Philosopher’s Stone. Similarly why not use metaphor as a way forward. Consequently we’ll do it in Philosopher’s Stone-Quest-Dark Forest, Bob Davis Podcast 806.

Base Metals Turned Into Gold

Alchemy was considered a spiritual and scientific pursuit back in the day. Going back to ancient Egypt and China, making it’s way to Europe by way of the Arabs in the 700’s. Alchemists searched for a clarifying agent known as The Philosopher’s Stone in their quest to turn base metals into gold.

Purification Of The Soul

Most noteworthy the stone was also said to have had the powers of immortality and healing. In addition, it helped the alchemist achieve purification of the soul. Sure seems like we need something like that these days.

Frustration and Anger Reign

Especially relevant is the feeling I get from talking to my friends all over the political spectrum who seem lost. Consequently frustration and anger reign supreme. It’s clear we need something new. Something that clarifies. Encourages purity. Enables Action. Something that saves the day.

Finding The Stone Within Ourselves…The Way Out?

Finally fighting and manipulating is everywhere. We won’t find the stone on a social media feed or Fox News. We can only find it within.

Eyes On The Prize-Always A Student-Bob Davis Yoga Podcast-768

Distractions. We all have them these days. How do you keep your eyes on the prize. We’ll talk about it in Eyes On The Prize-Always A Student-Bob Davis Yoga Podcast-768.

Eyes On The Prize Please

Keeping your eyes on the prize means focus, goal setting and follow through. It’s all about reaching a positive result. A personal goal, or some kind of outcome.

More Practice Clearer Mind

Moreover one of the promises of a daily yoga practice is a clear mind. By refining and refocusing the mind through a yoga practice we hope to gain a clearer perception of ourselves.

Age Doesn’t Matter

It’s especially relevant that we understand we live in an age of swirling distractions. Despite all the talk about young people and their portable devices and screen time, age doesn’t matter. All of us are bombarded constantly with messages.

Judgements

News of the day. Friends and family. Our personal and business networks. In addition all the demands of modern life. Greater distractions we don’t see. Society and Politics. Personal pressures. Judgements we have to make to survive.

Transcending Day To Day Pressures

Our practice every day is supposed to be free of judgements. A time for us to take for ourselves to clear our mind and refocus. Yoga starts out as part of a fitness routine for many. For others a response to the pressures of life. After practicing for a while, something else starts to happen. We transcend the day to day pressures. Learn more in Eyes On The Prize-Always A Student-Bob Davis Yoga Podcast-768.

Needs and Wants

In conclusion there’s a sort of transcendence with yoga. I started to understand the difference between needs and wants. I realized I really didn’t need that much ‘stuff’ to be happy. Keeping my ‘eyes on the prize’ means planting seeds every day, rather than trying to harvest every day.

Quiet The Mind Quite The Mind

With distractions and judgements about everything everywhere these days, being able to quiet the mind can be the beginning of big changes.

We all agree on one thing. There’s a lot of crazy to go around these days. It’s especially relevant and important to remember it’s summer. Join me on the deck and we’ll talk about it in Pause Crazy News Coverage-Summer Stories-Bob Davis Podcast 734.

Taco Night!

Taco night at the Broadcast Bunker ends on the deck, with fresh hot coffee, as the rain rolls in.

Stream Of Consciousness

As a long time podcaster I prefer preparation and even writing content. However subscribers and listeners tell me they love my free wheeling stream of consciousness style.

Furthermore it takes a lot of thought to get to the nub of what is near and dear to talk about in a podcast. Easy for me to talk about politics and society. Maybe because politics is always top of mind.

Awash In News Coverage

To me, valuable content is just beneath that crust of all this political talk. Moreover society is awash in so called news coverage that ends up forcing us all deeper into our ‘positions’. The great thing about podcasting is, I don’t have to keep banging away on a political topic. I’ve done plenty of unique podcasts on society and politics that are still current.

Then I remember it’s summer!

In the Upper Midwest summer is short and sweet. Most of all this year we’ve had a lot of rain and it has been hot. That means thick leaves and bugs and lots of green.

No Shoes And Running Free

Summer nights make me think of summer stories. Spending summer with no shoes. Days at the community pool. Bike rides. Running free from morning til late at night. Sitting on the front steps listening to the radio all night.

All of this, kicked off from the last day of school and running straight through to Labor Day.

Summer Nights

My experience has been that it doesn’t matter when someone grew up. Summer nights are always good for thinking about those days when we had endless freedom and possibilities.

Remember Your Summer Stories

Finally considering the intensity, the yelling and screaming, the rancor that passes for ‘news’, it sure made me feel good to do this podcast. Listen and remember your summer stories, no matter when you grew up. And all this kicked off because someone asked me why I don’t wear shoes in the summer.
