Summer Is Short Up Here

First of all summer in the upper Midwest is short. We all know that, right? Join me on a midnight walk and talk as the heat hangs in the balance in Fading-Midwestern-Summer-Walk-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 945.

Walk and Talk Time

More importantly these occasional walk and talk podcasts are necessary.

Making Sense Of This Crazy World

Secondly every now and then I have to take the podcast machine out for some free association. It helps me make sense of the crazy world we’re living in.

Recent Podcasts

Even more late night walks serve to integrate some of the heavier podcasts I’ve done recently.

Lots of Feeds In July! Thank You!

Certainly July had some podcasts that garnered pretty solid download numbers.

Facebook’s Civil War

For example my podcast on Facebook’s diabolical approach to sowing disagreement and discord. In addition a podcast I did at the beginning of July on the economic situation.

Ahead Of The Curve

Above all my goal is to give podcast listeners and subscribers information they might not be aware of. And to give people something to think about a little ahead of the curve.

Summer Storms

In short I find investigating and commenting on ‘news’ that seems to blow up and disappear like a summer storm isn’t worth my attention, or yours.

Three Big Story Lines In August

So in Fading-Midwestern-Summer-Walk-Talk-Bob Davis Podcast 945 I outline the three big story lines I think we can pay attention to in the month of August.

Fair Time!

In conclusion in my part of the world we have something called The Minnesota State Fair. The fair is a ritual that helps us process the end of summer.

Weather Change

Finally the weather changes and you get ready for fall.

Cancel Culture

Unfortunately the fair has been cancelled, so it’s hard for us all to figure out what time of the year it is!

Surreal Summer

To sum up it has been a surreal summer. True, we have a few weeks left. In fact there are predictions of the return of heat before it’s all over. But I can’t imagine fall will be any less surreal.

(Photo Editor Note: On the river in Minneapolis. A stark difference from the usual photos and press regarding our troubles in Minneapolis. A night spent with people who care about their home and their community. Thanks guys for the opportunity to get that shot!)

Covid Refugees Head Up North

For people in the upper Midwest summer means ‘Up North’. Especially relevant to Rural-America-Urban-Covid-Refugees-Bob Davis Podcast 934 even city people might find Up North a little crowded these days.

Not Just An Old Cabin In The Woods Anymore

Even more cabins in the woods these days are becoming sophisticated enough to qualify as second or even first homes.

Designated Meet Up When It All Goes Down

Firstly for most extended families ‘The Cabin’ or ‘Up North’ is the designated meet up if things go south.

Relatives Who Bugged Out

Therefore Father’s Day weekend seemed like a perfect time to get together with my son who bugged out from New York City.

Pandemic Panic Brought Them From Big Urban Centers

Secondly since then other family members from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles have jumped on the refugee bandwagon.

We’ve Been Here For Generations

On the other hand we have a lot of relatives who’ve lived ‘Up North’ for generations.

How Are The Rural People Getting Along With The Urban Denizens

Consequently I wondered how everyone is getting along.

Chicken, Steak and Conversation

Time to grill out and have some conversation.

Getting Along

You might think fur would fly between the locals and the refugees but it turned out great.

Millennial Approach To Collaboration

Moreover one of the things I was impressed with is how the millennial generation handles working together across cultural lines. We’ll talk about it as we get the ‘Up North Experience’ in Rural-America-Urban-Covid-Refugees-Bob Davis Podcast 934. This a standard topic on the podcasts these days.

Plenty Of Room For Everyone

Certainly there are funny stories and things to talk about. However as my nephew put it, there’s plenty of room here for everyone.

Not Done With ‘The Covid’, Though

Finally I think it’s fair to say we’re not done with Covid.

Second Wave?

For example spikes are reported already in areas that have opened up. Of course there’s also the official ‘second wave‘ predictions to think about.  Not to mention unrest in the cities.

No Urban Or Rural Emphasis

In conclusion I am impressed with our ability to pivot to working from home and anywhere, and doing it successfully or even better. Maybe the future doesn’t have an urban or rural emphasis.

Creating A Solid Home Yoga Practice

These days if you want to do yoga in most places, you have to do it at home. Yoga studios closed. What do you do? Develop your own yoga practice. Join me on the journey in 108-SunSalutes-Home-Yoga-Practice-Bob Davis Podcast 925.

Twenty Years Of Practice

Most noteworthy for me is my twenty years of practicing yoga. So I should be able to do this right? Truthfully there are guides online, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Not Worthy To Teach?

Even more I never felt I my practice was good enough for me to even think about teaching.

Always A Student

Moreover I always felt the best thing for me and my practice was to be a student.

Enter The Lock Down

Enter the lock down. The sequester. Shelter In Place. Quarantine. Whatever we call it, the pandemic is wreaking havoc for Yogis, Martial Artists and Gym Rats.

Get Creative

As the result of the studios and gyms being closed we have to get creative. Learn more in 108-SunSalutes-Home-Yoga-Practice-Bob Davis Podcast 925

Not As Easy To Practice At Home As I Thought

Consequently I decided to start practicing yoga at home. For someone who has practiced as much as I have, it should be easy. Right?

Long Term Goal To Have A Home Practice

In contrast developing my own practice was a little more challenging than I thought. I didn’t let that bother me though. Above all for years I have wanted to be able to have a practice I could do whether I was on an abandoned dirt road in the desert, or stuck at home during a quarantine.

Enter The Sun Salute!

One of the things I love about yoga are sun salutes. So the two series I developed for myself all start with 25 sun salutes.

Not Done, Until It’s Over Done

Likewise the other day I thought, we do 108 sun salutes twice a year to celebrate the change of seasons. Why not do that at home?

The Wow Factor

Wow! Probably one of the best things I have ever done.

We Can’t Predict The Future But We Can Practice Every Day

Finally some real talk. I think it’s most noteworthy we don’t really know when this will end, how it will end. We don’t even know where we’re going to be when it’s all over.

Now I Have A Strong Daily Yoga Practice

While I can hope for the best I know the only way I can keep balanced, and clear my head, is to have a strong daily yoga practice.

Missing My Yoga Community

In conclusion I want to dedicate this podcast to the my teachers and the yoga community where I live. I miss them so much. I know there are zoom classes and DVD’s but it’s not the same as hanging at the studio and talking yoga.

See you all soon.

Namaste
